I expect that this year, like last year, I will be selling many of my geckos to people as their first reptile ever. It's always tough to figure out how much information to give them --too little and they can't care for their pet properly, too much and they get overwhelmed. I'm thinking of few issues in particular and thought I'd put them in separate threads.
For supplementation, I would ideally tell people something like this: keep a dish of calcium without D3 in the cage, dust feeders at least weekly with calcium with D3 and at least weekly with reptile vitamins. To do this, people have to buy 3 supplements and keep track of what they're doing. The people I gave a version of this to last year have not been able to keep it straight. Realistically, I would suggest that people buy one good supplement that contains calcium, D3 and vitamins and tell them to keep a dish in the cage and also dust feeders periodically. This way they only have to buy 1 supplement. I would also tell them that there is a better, more complex method which they should use especially if they're planning to breed.
I'm not really interested in another discussion about how to supplement since it's been done before, but would like some feedback on this idea and also some suggestions on what brand of supplement to recommend (I use the combination of 3 supplements).
Sorry this is so long.
