Take this for what's it worth. My aunt was scammed last year out of more than 10,000.00 by a "man" on Eharmony. It was essentially a Nigerian type scam. This man courted and called her for a FULL year. He sent her flowers and gifts. He probably spent about $500.00 on her. A small investment for a $10,000.00 payout.
Any decent scammer knows your target has to trust and be confident in you for the scam to work. And sometimes spending a few bucks is what it takes.
I'm not saying this is what Michael is doing but if he is it certainly isn't something new for the scammer book.
