In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry General Exotics / GeneralExotics.com?

Have there been a bunch of negative threads/posts that I've missed?

There have indeed been negative posts in this thread, Harald. And I thought the point of the BOI was to let people have their say, and have the readers decide what they choose to do. As far as steering, you are entitled to your own opinion; as are we all. Surely you are not trying to be the only driver?

Unsatisfied Customer

I had a terrible experience with GeneralExotics.com, and in fact, i'm going to start a tread about it.

Yes, this customer had an unfortunate experience. The customer ordered a pair of captive ranched adult red eye tree frogs. They were in good shape and packed well. However, somehow when they arrived the cool pack was damaged, leaking and the frogs were dead.

I stood behind the guarantee, in fact going above it because this was carrier neglect in my opinion. But I sent him 2 more Red Eye Tree Frogs and in the second shipment only one of the two Red Eye Tree Frogs made it alive.

The temps were also around or above 90 degrees just FYI though that doesn't matter with my guarantee being in effect regardless of outside temperatures.

It was a pretty unfortunate experience to pay what they did and only get one live arrival out of the bunch. :ack2:

I believe I was honorable in my guarantee. Did I not do enough? :shrug01:

First of all, I'm not trying to drive or steer this thread...(mod hat on)...except as it regards to the rules of this site, which I haven't addressed yet. But, as long as I've mentioned that part, you've been walking with your toes on the line. It has been made pretty clear that the goal is to reshape the BOI into a more professional tool - which means that the name calling and some of the abusive comments don't belong.

(Mod hat off, again)
I've got no problem with people pointing out that General Exotics is a broker, or explaining some of the downfalls of dealing with one...I haven't been following this thread closely, but the complaints I saw were centered around delays - those are fairly common when you're dealing with somebody that doesn't actually have the animals in their possession, which is why I referenced the waiting in my previous post. Wasn't most of the warning after the fact? Is that why this is an issue - she didn't wait long enough for people to tell her to avoid the broker? This seller is as entitled to post her good experience with this company as you are to warn her away from it. As you indicated, the readers can then decide for themselves.

<there was more, but I decided not to go there>

Ok, first off, I'm not a "him", I'm a "she".
Secondly, you know that my whole complaint was about they way they were packed, and so I see you conviently stated that they were packed well. In shipping animals that you guarantee to arrive live, that should be a given. My complaint was about the BROKEN cold pack that was leaking everywhere, and the utter lack of cushion/support in the container the frogs were in. This was not a carrier error at all, and the boxes were cool inside still, so the heat had nothing to do with it. Third, one of the replacement frogs was extremely thin, arrived still breathing, but was completely limp and lifeless. The other was 100% fine, and still is a few weeks later, and he was healthy sized when he arrive. Why was one fine, and the other was dieing when they were subjected to the same things during shipping? I suppose that's some how a carrier error as well? And finally, my #1 problem was that on your website, you claimed to have a 98% success rate with live arrivals, yet 3 out of 4 frogs I was sent died. In my opinion, thats a 25% success rate, with me at least.

If you didnt take care of the second shipment with its DOA... then you didnt do enough. Your customer still hasnt gotten what they paid for.

I would say its time to send another frog. You may not like sending 5 frogs and only being paid for 2 but sometimes in this business you just have to take a hit to make a customer happy. In the end they may come back or send others your way(maybe not in this case) and you will make enough to replace your losses.

In regards to General Exotics being a broker, well if its legal then they have every right to do business that way. BUT stealing someones picture, regardless of being a broker or not is shady enough to turn me away. There are too many other, better options IMO.

Not a good guy

I placed an order for tokays, pacman frog and newts. On nov. 16. They contacted me on nov. 17 saying they were out of newts i ordered something else in replace of them. I have not heard from them since. I have even told them to cancel my order and give me a refund. Today is nov. 28 2011. I am very disappointed with them. They make my first online buying reptiles horrible.

well count me in as another dissatisfied customer.

.i ordered a tortoise april 24th to be delivered on may 4th to my lovely wife as an anniversary gift. they promptly ran my credit card and i havent heard from them since. no e-mails, no phone calls, no tortoise.

i was able to see in the details of my order that he noted he was gonna contact glades (yup, just glades) in order to get a good deal and have it shipped under his label.
(why this was info was shared on my order history is beyond me)

i tracked down a "glades" herp farm in florida and a great guy named toby who was aware of my order .he tells me glades wouldnt sell GE a tortoise cheaply enough and just let my order go unfilled.

some anniversary surprise
some customer service

still waiting for any response or even a refund from GE

Sorry folks, however I do believe that "anything" on the internet is considered public domain, unless specificly expressed otherwise, or a copyyright notice is depicted.

My two cents ... however I may be wrong too. I'm a computer programmer and reptile breeder, not a lawywer :shootfoot
