    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

kicked out of some zoo related jobs while on duty or can get you FLUNKED out of some herp classes/schools/colleges while attending. Anybody know or is aware of this ? We have a private school in the KC area that use to auto flunk you in the advent you got tagged while in class or field trip. I don't know if it could happen while not attending class or the above, let's say at home or whatever. I do know that while the class was down in the Yucatan Peninsula that the Professor warned of such and one in particular individual got reprimanded for picking up a small snake without edifying the species which happened to be a micrurus ( coral snake ) of non normal micrurus coloration !

the closest hosp to my house that carried crofab was about an hour away sorry typo

Vinny, since you asked, let me address your question with questions/statements of my own as well as comments from others that will showcase why people do not believe you, myself included:

1) Edited

2) You stated that you began "studying" herps at the age of 4. Maybe I and others are taking this out of context but you don't study anything at the age of 4. You might be fascinated with things but a 4 year olds attention span is about 5 minutes.

3) You stated that your parents started allowing you to handle hots at 6 years of age! Ok, if you say so.

4) To quote the owner of this forum "Paralysis and no tissue destruction from a rattlesnake bite? I don't think so........ Five days after a rattler bite, your hand would look a real mess." Your hand shows no sign of either.

5) The bite marks appear to be spaced too far apart for a 3 month old crotalid of that age, even for an adamanteus, and with no swelling/streaking 5 days after the bite? Are you sure the thing that bit you did not go meow instead of hisssss?

6) Here's a quote from you:

Vinny D said:
about a year after that my 2 month old eastern diamondback rattler nailed me. 5 mins after the bite i was paralized and i couldent walk for 3 days i dont have any scaring from the rattler bite

You were bitten by a Eastern Diamondback, correct? Their venom is hemotoxic yet you clearly state you had paralysis within minutes. Hemotoxic venom destroys tissues. Neurotoxin attacks your CNS and causes paralysis. So, which one was it?

But, let me point out a few more interesting facts. You see Vinny, I have a copy of the newspaper article that was written about you when you were bitten by the Viper, you know, the article from the Lancaster News ( Vinny's Article ).

For starters, it states that you were in the hospital for 9 days with that bite. Is it just a coincidence that you also state you were in the hospital for 9 days with the rattlesnake bite?

How about your thread in the Welcome New Members page? You clearly state how you have all of this experience and knowledge surrounding these animals. Yet, the Lancaster News quotes you as stating "“The guy had told me, if I had gotten bitten, nothing would happen. I would
not even get sick. I would just have a little bit of pain, like a bee
sting,’’ Vinny said. " A BEE STING VINNY??? Yet, we are to accept you as an expert with regards to these animals. Ok, whatever.

Where's the viper now Vinny? Oh that's right, you don't have it anymore do you? Why? Because it was specifically against your townships ordinances. You supposedly have all of this knowledge regarding hots yet somehow you failed to check your local laws. What further compounds this is the fact that even after this animal was taken away due to violating the ordinance, you still manage to bring in an Eastern, which tags you also. Yup, sounds like a mature herper to me. I wonder if your township has been informed of your current inventory (rhino's and puff adders)?

What about antivenom Vinny? If you know so much about hots surely you would have been smart enough to check to make sure a local hospital had some. Right? You got lucky that Brian was there to help save your rear and that the South African antivenom worked.

Speaking of Antivenom, let's look at this quote from Brian "Dr. Ward Donovan, head of the toxicology department, has dealt with snake bites but never one with no available antivenom, Washington said. The next step was checking with poison centers throughout the country to find the best antivenom, Washington said. He also searched the Internet for information. He and Donovan settled on a polyvalent (a mix of antivenoms that included antigens that work on snakes similar to the West African bush viper) from South Africa." Wait a minute Vinny. Didn't you say that you helped consult with them on what antivenom to use? How dare the newspaper not give credit where credit is due!

I could go on and on Vinny but I think my point is perfectly clear. You have shown yourself to not only be an irresponsible herper but also one that holds the law in complete contempt. You have misled this board and have been called to the carpet for it. Now, do us all a favor and go away.

Guys, to further showcase the inconsistencies regarding Vinny take a look at the original email Vinny sent after he had purchased the animal:

I am at a loss for words, I hope Vinny responds to your questions to put everyones mind to ease and prove that he hasnt lied to anyone on here!!!!

Had I been

given all of these additional facts I would have given a different responce.

That's why I posted this
Well, at least your not too humble.

p.s. I've handled hots (granted only Crotalus) for longer than you have been alive, and I've never been bitten
. When he posted this on the welcome forum

Hay all my name is Vinny i have studied herpetology for almost 15 years mostly snakes
hay i study locality BCC's and true vipers mostly. but I have experience with all reptiles. if you have any questions please feel free to ask, i started working with hots at the age of 6. i went 12 years with out an envenomation until i moved to PA, i was envenomated by my west african bush viper (Atheris Chloroechis) feb,9 2004 i almost died from that bite since the atheris ssp has no known antivenin. the philadelphia zoo saved my live as i did too. we boath decided on S.A.I.M.R polyvalent, after 9 hrs after the bite i finally started the IV drip with the AV and thank god it worked. about a year after that my 2 month old eastern diamondback rattler nailed me. 5 mins after the bite i was paralized and i couldent walk for 3 days i dont have any scaring from the rattler bite but the bush viper left me with about 60% of my left index finger boath bites were 110% my fault sticking my hands in the cage i have never been bit handling a hot which you should never do unless it's totally nessary. right now i have
0.1 yellow anaconda
0.1 Belknap suriname BCC
0.1 Marajo, Guyana local BCC
1.0 Pokigron suriname BCC
and my hots are no longer at my house my mom wanted them out. but im getting 1 of my ituri forest rhino babies. im also breeding locality puff adders with a friend. if you have questions my e-mail is ([email protected])im 20 yrs old and i have more exp with herps than most ppl in their 30's im no fony lol i hope i get to talk to you my fellow herpers thanks for reading and rember 1 thing " THEIR ARE 2 KINDS OF PEOPLE WHO WORK WITH HOTS THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN BIT AND THOSE WHO WILL BE BIT" im not saying that every1 that works with hots will get bit but their always is that 1 mistake thanks again and take care.. Vinny D

(A.K.A.)SNAKEMAN
Fisrt of all he states he began working with hots at age 6. I call BS. His dad may have had some of his own hots that he [his dad]cared for, but there is no way a 6 yo is working with hots. If he was, the father should be arrested for child endangerment, or nominated for a darwin award. Like many of us there were snakes in the household when we were we toddlers, but we didn't realistically "work with them" till we were a bit older (and I'm talking about non venomous). Speaking for myself I didn't start actually handling hots, till I was around 16, and that was when I was out herping with friends, and without my dad's "permission". Since it was the welcome forum, no one else took notice, and all the rest of the posts were "I think children are our future, we need to help them all we can, so welcome vinny" Well, maybe it's just me, but according to this 20 yo's post he doesn't need any help, he's here to help those who haven't been herpetologists since they were 6.

Normally, I would not get involved in something like this that is posted outside of the BOI. BUT, can you imagine if he was not called out for this and a newbie actually went to him for advice? I just could not stand that thought hence the reason why I dug as hard as I did (I did not write nearly all of the stuff I found). He needed to be shown for exactly what he is and hopefully all of us have accomplished that!

I have to say that I think a big part of the reason that Vinnie was not immediately taken to task for a lot of his comments and foolishness was the location of the thread. I know several of us took exception to various comments, but held our tongues for that reason. John's comment was light hearted enough not to cause much of a stir, but when the time came to let him have it...we were all warned off. Vinnie declined the suggestion to take his discussion here...I wonder why?? Nice article, btw. Thanks Griz. I know I will carry the the following quote, and the mental image it inspires, with me for some time (and reflect on it everytime I see Vinnie roaming the forums:
Vinny ran into his mother’s room, waking her up, yelling in pain.
DARN, for some reason, when I initially read the article, my tired eyes saw yelping in pain instead...I like that better, lol, I think I'll leave it that way

actually yes, i was asking for the information about the atheris chloroechis because i didnt know much about them. actually i knew nothing about the atheris ssp at the time. they are not the most popular snake. i have worked with crotalus and other southeastern hots. Than i statred getting into exotic hot's when i moved to PA. and actually the info that was given to me was wrong. he said it's only a mild venom usually not even needed to get treated.
ohh and yes i kissed her all the time. right grow up

wow u guys are mean lol.. well to start with yes at the age of 6 i was in kindergarden in Ft. Laurdale,FL. i saw a eastern coral snake on the playground. i used a stick and my hand and caught it since the teachers were going to destroy it. i hald to do something. i started reading and learning about the snake native to fla. so i knew exactlly what it was. they called my mom and told her the whole story bla bla bla. before my 7th birthday i was out catching anything and everything i could from anoles to cottonmouths. that is simply the truth. and yes, with the atheris bite i did run into my mom's room and woke are up. if you have ever been envenomated by a snake with such a strong hemotoxic venom you would to. and if you say no your a lier. "I HAVE NOT LIED ABOUT ANYTHING ON HERE AT ALL BELEVE IT OR NOT"

Let's see, now...you said:
i am very experienced with hots
,
i use all the safty rules just like any zoo's
, and
im still a very responsible hot handler
I guess that's why you were envenomated 2 times in about a year. I'm not sure what safety rules you were following for your first bite (Atheris)...but I am pretty sure that sticking your hand into the EDBs cage to grab the water bowl would be a direct violation of zoo protocol.
I guess this statement explains alot:
i just wish i had some 1 to teach me becides the crocodile hunter show's when i was a kid lol but it worked so i cant complain
. That is my main beef about The Crocodile Hunter...people see the cavalier manner in which Steve Irwin handles hots, and decide that they can do it. The only difference is (according to your little article, anyway) Steve Irwin has never been envenomated, despite working with many more animals over a much longer period of time. I hope your friend Dan doesn't sign on for your version of Venomous 101

You jumped onto Fauna spouting off about your knowledge and experience, and brandishing your bites like some sort of medal. Your comments
THEIR ARE 2 KINDS OF PEOPLE WHO WORK WITH HOTS THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN BIT AND THOSE WHO WILL BE BIT
i have worked with over 300 hots since the age of 6 and only 2 bites inst to bad
with 14 years of venomous experience 2 bits isnt all that bad
seem to reflect that you are pleased both that you have finally gotten yours, and that you are proud that you have only been bitten twice. WOW. And you want to teach people how to work with hots??
