    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. getting " envenomated " can get you ........

i agree 100% and about the croc hunter but what is done is done. and all that you quoted was after boath envenomations. and yes i do use all tools transport boxes ect. i am a good hot handler for my age. i have made some mistakes not only the 2 hot bites. i think every 1 has. their is no room for error while working with a dangerous animal.

no like i have said many of times on here. i want to teach ppl not to get careless like i have. i am in no way proud of the fact that i have been envenomated twice. but their is nothing i can do about that now. except to share with other's my mistakes. which to you is bragging or being proud. it would be pretty sad to be proud of something like that.

You know what Vinny? We are not mean. We are just straight up and more importantly, HONEST people. And most dishonest people do not like being questioned, and react pretty defensively. Something I've noticed.
If you studied venomous so long, you would know that C.a. has HEMOTOXIC venom. Known for necrosis, and hemorrhaging, hell, it coagulates the blood eventually. Neurotoxic venom is known for paralysis, and attacking vitals, and nervous system.
And you would also know that venom's are measured by LD-50, not 1-10 scale, and the info you seek is pretty obtainable without much effort. And why would you even own a snake if you didn't know the LD-50, AND have anti-venon on hand? This is not responsible keeping of hots by any means.
It seems to Me you ARE overhyping your actual knowledge to try and gain friends? status? reputation? who knows what, but you are not in My oppinion being completely truthful and creating the opposite. This is a large forum. There are people here who DO KNOW what they are talking about.
Some advice for you My friend. Be yourself, and not who you would LIKE to be. You will probably make more friends that way.

Well if you know anything about easterns. you would know that their their is a fake line through gainsville, fla. easterns south of that line are strogly neuotoxic and ssp. north of the line are mostly hemotoxic. do your reaserch before saying anything..

i dont know why everything i say gets twisted and turned around. i have never lied about 1 thing on here. and their is no LD-50 for atheris ssp or antivenom. so thats a little hard to do u know. atheris is a very poorly studied ssp. that is why my envenomation is in the medical journal. because it was the first time that a bite from atheris chloroechis was TREATED WITH ANTIVENIN. yes other ppl have lived from them but they never received the correct AV. which is S.A.I.M.R a south african polyvalent used for some african hot's. and lucky enough in my case it worked. so please tell me why u would jump on me like that. if YOU dont even know what your talking about??

That is a lot of wisdom, right there...

and if you dont beleve the eastern's venom being STRONGLY nurotoxic only on the easterns south of gainsville,fl take it up with Dr. Bryan fry. that is why i was paralized for 3 days after the envenomation.

So your saying there are two adamanteus. 2 ssp of adamanteus? I find nothing in anything I have read. So which book is that from? Really, I would like to have it. I like to keep My stuff up to date.
Now C. scutulatis is known for nero's, and in more recent years I have heard of C. v. helleri possessing nero's, but I have not heard of this in C.adamanteus, or any other crotalids in N.A. Of course, I have not kept hots for 10 yrs or so, I may be out dated here. Maybe I should look into it.

See, now you MAY have taught someone something. :) And if you turn out correct, I will come back and publicly oppologize to you. Cool?

Vinnie, you have, and will be taking heat for some of your comments and our perception of your attitude - so far, I will admit that you have tried to maintain some dignity about it. I don't know you, and will be removing myself from these discussions unless you say something really stupid or offensive. Before that, I want to explain something: You have professed a concern about the availability of venomous snakes, and the ability of just about anyone to purchase them...yet you were one of the ones that WE have been voicing our concerns about for years. This is not a jab at your experience, but there are a lot of issues surrounding hots. More and more states and localities are regulating venomous (and other) reptiles, and a big piece of the impetus for legislation is people being bitten (abandoned or lost critters is a biggie with nonvenomous). Until something like that happens and brings us into the spotlight, most local governments never even think about snakes. Who would think that venomous snakes should be a concern in NY - nobody...UNTIL some dumbass got bitten by an eyelash viper. Oh, look - a newspaper article or two...and what's that, all the sudden, some member of the state government is presenting a bill to regulate venomous reptiles. Oh, and check this out...another winner of a Darwin award gets bitten while free handling a gaboon viper. A little bit of media attention, and the county in which it was purchased suddenly has a ban so restrictive that state license holders can't get shipments into that airport. YOU are Pennsylvania's worst nightmare. Reptile keepers are in the minority, and our rights are threatened and taken away at every turn. Hot keepers even more so. It is hard enough to justify why we should be allowed to keep large constrictors, monitor lizards, crocodilians, etc...without somebody realizing that a single bite from a venomous snake can cause death or permanent disfigurement (not to mention the many thousands of dollars in medical bills for treatment)

My point exactly. You cannot call this responsible keeping of hots. Yet you keep saying you are. Steve Irwin is a great guy. I like him too. But I think He does stupid and irresponsible things. You say He taught you everything you know. I say this is why you were bitten. You recieved no PROPER training.

yes, what i said about the easterns is very true. it's hard to find but if you look in the right places you will find it. it was brought to my attention by the curator of reptiles at the philadelphia zoo. i just called him and asked him where i can find this information. so im waiting for a call or e-mail backi will get it to you asap but it's no lie. and if any1 else know's about this please let us know. thanks

You quoted Dr. Fry above, I believe i will ask Him. He has answered questions in past for Me. If he is away, I am sure I can find something. There are many knowledgable people on many forums, when it comes to hots. Thanks again

Actually there have been LD-50 values established for Atheris specifically Atheris squamiger at 5mg/kg.

Vinny, and I mean this with your best intersts in mind - quit while you are behind.

im not going to quit at all. i never have and never will. or unless i gan get u fellow herpers to understand what im trying to say. in sted of all jumping on me. i do understant why. yes i came off to all of you big headed and thinking i know it all. beleve me i dont. but i do know alout. i just want to tell ppl my mistakes and experiences just like i have been doing. this is the first place where i recived such brutal feed back. i have said im sorry if i have offendid any 1 in anyway. and again i have never lied about 1 single thing on fauna. and yes i do know A.Squamiger has a ld-50 but squamiger is not chloroechis but fairly close. i never ment to come to fauna to all have this drama. all i wanted to do was share my experiences good or bad. thanks

i do beleve dr. Fry is at home now. because he just e-mailed me about a week ago. but with his work you never know what part of the world he is in. and on his fourms he asked my to tell everything about my envenomations. and i never got 1 since put down. i guess i can see now which is the better fourm. or should i say more professional

That quote posted from the news article refreshed my memory. I have to search but if I'm not mistaken-
Vinny, the person that sold you the snake, Did you sue him? I remember the article somewhere on the BOI.

Vinny - if you want people to understand what you are saying (or rather typing) perhaps you should give pause before commiting your thoughts to the forums here. You stated that there were no LD-50 values known for Atheris as a whole (re-read your post).

The problem is not that you come off as big-headed or arrogant, quite the opposite, you actually present yourself as being relatively ignorant.

And I didn't mean that you should quit in general, but you are clearly not furthering your cause by continuing to contribute to this topic. My point was that you should walk away from this discussion with whatever modicum of respect you have left in the eyes of my fellow Fauna members.

here is what Dr. Bryan Fry wrote back to me after tellin him about my C. Adamanteus envenomation

Hi mate

Sorry to hear about your bite. Sounds like a nasty one. From what you've described, sounds like the venom had a fair concentration of neurotoxins similar to mojavetoxins. Neurotoxins in Crotalus are grossly underappreciated. All Crotalus, and all pitviper and most viper, venoms have neurotoxins in them to one extent or another. They are normally not one of the dominant components and are usually over-looked clinically.

Did you recieve antivenom? If so, its important that the doctor gives you a ten day prescription for predinisolone. This is a corticosteroid that helps prevent serum sickness, a delayed reaction to the antivenom that can produce very uncomfortable flu-like symptoms such as achy joints and nausea.

All the best
Bryan
