Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Getting my wisdom teeth removed in the morning

I'm curious though, and you don't have to answer if you don't want, but why are you only getting three removed? Did the other come in normally? I ask because just one of mine is sticking out some on my lower jaw, the others are all hidden and don't bother me any.

Ooops, sorry, didn't see this question until just now.

I actually only have three wisdom teeth... the fourth never developed. There's no urgent need for me to get them removed, it's more preventative than anything else and it's best to just take them out while you're young and can heal than when you're old and they start to cause problems. None of my wisdom teeth are above my gum line. All of them are actually stuck in my jaw bone, jutted up against and below the last molars in my mouth. They're probably going to put me under for the surgery. I've got a consultation at the end of January for it.

Thank you all so much for the well-wishes everyone! They really worked! :D

I had mine taken out about 8 yrs ago when I was 20. The surgery part wasn't bad but I didn't rinse as much as I should have and ended up with dry sockets. That was miserable even with the pain pills. So good after care is the best advice I can give you.

That's a bummer, sorry to hear that happened. :crap: Thanks for the advice though, I'm trying my best to take care of it because dry socket doesn't sound like fun at all. I know I accidentally dislodged a clot removing some gauze, but I think it's early enough that it didn't really matter. :shrug01:

Well that makes things easier, one less thing to worry about! That's interesting because up until now I didn't know people could less... *checks* It seems some unfortunate people can even have more too! Man, that would suck having eight wisdome teeth! :ack2:

Glad to hear they're not bothering you now though, it's good to get them removed early like that. :yesnod: My oral surgeon looked at my xrays and told me the impacted ones that weren't bothering me, especially my upper ones, were jutting against my molars like your own. He said that if I just let them go then they'd likely try to move in and shift the others around causing crooked teeth. :unhappy: Good thing I got it done now!

I'll fill you in a little more on what it was like for me in a sec, but I want you to know that it wasn't too bad at all. :) Worrying about it was worse. I hope yours goes just as smoothly! ;)

Thanks for the encouragement guys! Everything went really well! They even gave me all my teeth back in a little baggie. :crazy03: http://i824.photobucket.com/albums/zz167/spittfyre/IMG_3278.jpg (Photobucket link. Warning for the squeamish: semi-graphic) One of them had to be broken up into three pieces, but the rest came out fine... I wonder what they think I'm supposed to do with them now. They're kinda gross, chunks of my head just laying there. :eek3:

Anyways if you haven't had it done before and care to find out what it's like - I just went in, got a quick xray, watched an educational film on wisdom teeth that I swear was made in the 80's, got my consult, then went back and got the laughing gas. It took a few minutes and at first I was thinking that it wasn't working much, but then out of nowhere I just started grinning and feeling dreamy~ LOL I'm glad they waited until after that to put in the IV, it definitely does a good job of calming the nerves.
Woke up a second later (Actually about 25 -30 minutes) talking and thinking just fine. Couldn't walk very straight for a while of course and my face was ridiculously numb with novacaine. Touching it, I couldn't even register that it was my own!

They wanted me to eat right away to get something in my stomach before the medicine. Today everything I eat has to be soft and cold, so they directed me to the cafe downstairs for a smoothie. I also can't use straws for a week (suction might pull a clot) so I went with a spoon.
My face was so crazy numb that I directed my first scoop into my chin! LOL Turns out my mouth wasn't opening much at all, but I couldn't feel it - I thought I was wide open! XD In the car ride home, I used a mirror to direct the smoothie to my unfeeling slab of a face and it still dribbled everywhere because my lips weren't working. :no01:

The numbness wore off in about two or three hours which is when some discomfort kicked in. I'd say a 6 on the pain scale or something? 8 tops if it peaks real bad for a second or two, it did that just once when I laughed with a mouthful of gauze. Not awful at all though. It's more of an annoying ache than anything and it comes and goes. They gave me vicodin for it and I'm sure that helps. Since my face wasn't working when I took the first pill, I thought it might help to crush it up in my smoothie... Don't do that if you can help it, that stuff tastes nasty! :ack2: They also put me on antibiotics and I wisely decided to just swallow those. ;)

The worst part about all this would be the bleeding from the sockets just because it's so inconvenient. That lessens and worsens too, but it was especially bad in the beginning. I'd spit then a second later my mouth would be full. I went through a ton of gauze pads. :crap: Now it's just a mild leak, but it'll start flowing bad again if I talk. (I know I'm yapping too much )

My cheeks are very swollen and tender to the touch, the surgeon said everyone's different and apparently I'm a balloon, so I'm putting ice packs (frozen vegetables) on frequently. That's just a mild bother, kinda funny actually. Forget chipmunk, I'm thinking -

:D
Overall it hasn't been too bad, nothing unbearable or anything. Bit of a mild headache probably from the pain meds, but that's it. I'll try to keep up on the aftercare instructions they gave me, but I'm thinking the worst is over. Think it went smooth as can be. :yesnod:

Thanks again guys, you were right all the way~

I am so glad to hear that it went so well for you!!! Ya!! I luv how you told the story tho. Make me just giggle sitting here reading it! Nice way of putting everything LOL

Just an update - the swelling is actually worse today, even up bothering my ears now. Just when I thought my cheeks couldn't get any bigger too. Real chipmunks are laughing at me now!

Oh well, I was told that the day after could be worse. It'll probably go down some tomorrow. Then those cruel, mocking rodents can leave me in peace. ;)

I don't tolerate painkillers or anesthesia well, and the last thing you want to do with open holes in your mouth is puke.
Man, you're telling me. I had the pleasure of that lovely experience twice last night. :crap: It could be because of all the blood I've swallowed without having anything else in my stomach, but I honestly think it's from the medicine. I haven't taken the vicodin since the first time yesterday, don't really need it, but I have to take those antibiotics three times daily for a week. It says nausea is one of the side effects. :ack2: Hopefully it won't get that bad again...

Make sure to put those teeth under your pillow for the tooth fairy.
Aha! Now that's an idea! :yesnod: I wonder if I'll get three times as much for the broken, three-piece one? :dgrin:

I am so glad to hear that it went so well for you!!! Ya!! I luv how you told the story tho. Make me just giggle sitting here reading it! Nice way of putting everything LOL

Thank you so much! Glad I could put a smile on your face! :D

Glad to hear it was pretty uneventful for you. Sorry to hear about the swelling though. Yikes it must be so uncomfortable.

For the nausea, I have the same thing. If I take them (or painkillers) on an empty tummy I get SO sick. I always try to eat something small before I take them, my fave is little cups of yogurt.

Speedy recovery!

Thank you very much for the well wishes! :D
Yeah, the swelling is starting to be a bit of a pain now. It's actually gotten to the point where everytime I open/close my mouth, I'll be biting down on the inside of my puffy cheek. No fun there. Makes me talk kinda funny too. XD
I know it'll pass soon enough though! ;)

Thanks for the advice too, I've been trying to eat more now. :yesnod: It's not the jaw pain that's stopping me, my stomach just feels so queasy that it's making me hesitant. Well I guess not eating won't help me any. We did stock up on yoplait though, I love those too! Think I might just give one a shot now~

just a little note.... antibiotic... if they put you on cylindamyacin (SP?) then make sure you eat atleast 2 yogurts day to replace the good bacteria in your system or one of the more nasty side effect will happen... I am glad your doing so well so quickly :) I am still recovering but getting a little better :) Suppose I will feel better about the time I have to go in again. blah! LOL :)

Not quite that, they have me on something called amoxicillin. I think the stuff you're on is stronger. I haven't heard the yogurt thing before, but that makes sense. I think I'll try to keep up on it. Thank you! :yesnod:
I imagine that your recovery is tougher than mine, I'm very sorry to hear that, but a little better is still a good start! ;) I always hate things like that though where you know you have to go back in again. :( Ugh! Poor thing, you just can't catch a break! :ack2:
Be tough and hang in there! Just think of all the character you're building! :p

hehe I dont mind building character. No matter what I try to keep on smiling and keep on truckin! If only my teeth were my main worry! oh well :) As long as I stay on this side of the grass, its all good LOL :D
