Due to a change in projects, I am selling my giant green ameiva (Ameiva ameiva). I am almost certain he is male, but I won't guarantee it. He was purchased at the last HERPS Conroe show (this September) from Rancho de Tortuga.
He is kept in a 4x2x3 sealed, bioactive enclosure, with a basking surface temperature of about 120, a UVB tube, 60-70% humidity, and 6"+ inches of dirt to allow him to form burrows. He is offered food off of tongs every couple days and is feeding well on superworms, mealworms, crickets, isopods, eggs, pinkie mice, and chicken, all occasionally dusted with calcium without D3. I have not tested him for parasites so that will be the buyer's responsibility if they'd like to do so.
He is a very fast and flighty lizard, so I would like him to go in an enclosure that measures no less than 48"x 18"x18". It's important that the enclosure is sealed to keep in humidity and heat and that he have at least 4", ideally 6"+, of dirt so that he can form his burrows. He spends a lot of his time in his burrows to hide and access cooler temperatures with higher humidity and then comes out to forage and bask. I'd recommend using a front opening enclosure if you'd like to gain his trust through tong-feeding; coming at him from above will likely startle him too much. While you can interact with him in his enclosure, I highly doubt he will ever "tame down," so I would not consider him a very hands-on pet that would hang out with you. He has gorgeous colours that would be great for breeding.
I'm asking $40 for him which is about how much I originally paid. This is a very interesting and under-appreciated species that does well in large, naturalistic vivariums.
Feel free to pm me with any questions you may have. I can meet in most places in the surrounding Dallas area of North Texas. Unfortunately, I can't ship at the moment.
