Gilbert I must say your last two posts sounds like the words of a mindless barbarian. I didn’t read the entire thread but read enough. You are an officer of the law supposed to set the examples. You know how many kids are reading this? Stuff like this and you guys wonder why people such as myself do not like police.

I think someone needs to find out who your superior officers are and let them take a look. I haven't done business with anyone in this thread or would be likely since I'm a lizard nut and not really into snakes so there is no a$$ to kiss on my part.

You never addressed the original issue of you flaking on your commitment to meet or purchase animals. Whether a person is a snake breeder, broker, seller or whatever common courtesy states that you should follow through on what you have stated you would do, or if that is impossible then provide adequate communication to that effect.

You stated that these guys would get killed in the real business world. I own a firm in which we do custom programming solutions for companies. Since they are custom there is no set pricing. We customarily raise our prices for clients that show a habit of tardiness, lack of communication or plain old "pain in the a$$"ness. Most of those reading this thread would put you in that class based upon this thread and your reactions in it. Take an objective read on this thread and ask yourself if you would like to deal with the customer you have protrayed here. Many of the people reading this thread are hobbyists, that means they are doing this for fun and a little money to buy new specimens. They have no desire to deal with a headache.

No one was arguing with your right to dislike particular members of this hobby/industry. But why contact them and cause issues if you had no intention of purchasing from them in the first part? Or is it that now they have come out and stated you were a pain to deal with that you dislike them?

It gets old dealing with people that state they are going to do one thing and never follow up.

I tried to stay out of this after the inital post I made, but....Gilbert your comments are way out of line and 100% unprofesional. Specially from an active Law Enforcement officer. I am an ex law Enforcement Officer myself ( I too worked Undercover Narcotics and for 6 years) and what you posted was appaling.  Hell if you don't like what the people are saying about you and your practices when it comes to purchasing animals than mend your way and don't let it happen again like you stated you are going to do. But do not threaten with Violence or such becuase someone posted about your actions or lack there of.

I for one am in the Real Business world as I own my Buisiness, and am not Eaten alive as you say.
I personally do not have a grudge or problem with you, like I told you in the privte e-mail, I make my own decisions from my personal dealings.  But from what I am seeing here I would be very hesitant to hold any animal for you or make any deals with you without a deposit or full payment first.

Just a thought to try to be constructive and help everyone out here so that things dont get this far:
How about setting up business policies for such practices?
Almost all retail companies do this.  If it bothers you to wait around, put a 24 hour limit on all holds.  For example, you go to a store and you want such-and-such article of clothing--you ask them to hold it for you.  Some stores hold it for 2 hours, some 2 days (I guess you can tell I'm a woman now, lol).  Decide what you are comfortable with and stick with that.  Or, require deposits on all holds, but be aware that you may lose some customers that way.  Or just do a straight up policy of "first person to paypal, gets it".  But no guidelines is just asking for trouble.  Maybe I've worked too many retail jobs in the past. Try managing a high end art gallery sometime--past lifetime, lol--we had items on hold for collectors for months that would change their mind!

And for customers, understand these policies and abide by them, or take your business elsewhere.

For me, I guess I can be a pushover, but I do not mind if a customer wants to think about a purchase for awhile--if they do buy it, I know that they really want it and it is not an impulse buy.  And I figure that if one person doesnt take it, someone else will.   I do not really see it as a potential customer making me "lose out" on another sale.  I often tell other inquiries that the particular animal is on hold, but I will let them know if the deal falls through.  I happen to have an animal that someone has had on hold for almost two months, lol!!!  In this case, I have done business with the person before, but I figure if he winds up bailing, I can just sell it for more money since it will be older!  For most people, I usually will hold it free of charge until I have another serious inquiry on that specific animal, then I shoot off an email or phone call giving the person 24-48 hours to complete the purchase.

Anyhow, I just thought this has gotten very emotional and could easily be avoided with some business guidelines.

I realize that business is driven by money (and yes I do indeed own a firm). A client that lacks communication skills, is tardy on fulfilling their deadline, etc costs money as they require more time to baby sit. Therefore they get charged more. Many breeders that wholesale animals do so because it streamlines the buying/selling process. Your actions draw out the process thereby costing more money and making it a less desirable transaction.

So unless you come on here and state "I called, it didn't happen that way", (which you didn't do) the natural conclusion is that what the original post stated was true and you flaked. My point was that makes you harder to deal with (in this case).

Personally, I don't think it's a big deal but in the same instance I wouldn't hold an animal for a "maybe" without a deposit.

You got lucky with Dana cause she has the patience of a saint.

I don't think that it is the fact that Gilbert is not buying that is aggravating the populace.  It is the way he is going about it that is abusive.  I posted earlier in this thread that I had a had a similar situation with Gilbert earlier this year regarding some Graybands.  What has been demonstrated by this ongoing thread is that he makes a habit of this behavior.  

We all lose sales and have deals fall through.  That's the business and if you can't deal with it you shouldn't be doing it.  I, for one, thoroughly enjoy talking to other people in the hobby.  I have no problem with a lengthy phone call or a string of E-mails that ask a plethora of questions.  I am proud of what I produce and sell and like discussing it.

Gilbert, however, has taken it to a new level.  You can see this in Bill Cagles post.       "DON'T SELL THE MALE!  I"VE GOT CASH!"  This was the same line he used on me and, apparently, others.  At this point you have asked a breeder to take an animal off the market for you.  You have taken up his time and firmly led him to believe that the deal was done. You have committed to a sale and are, in my opinion, obligated.  Sure, you can back out after that but, unless there is a serious reason, you shouldn't.  Those of us with ethics generally subscribe to the adage "A deal is a deal"  Gilbert apparently does not.

My other point of contention is Gilbert's absurd comment that one of the breeder's he backed out on was "too much of a snake peddler"  He then said that he preferred to buy from breeders.  Gilbert, a breeder who doesn't peddle his wares soon finds himself ass deep in baby animals.  All of us who sell our animals are "snake peddlers".  I, personally, have a pleasantly lucrative day job and most assuredly do not need to sell animals to pay my bills.  However, I will definitely say that it is doubly pleasant to do something I enjoy deeply and also manage to make it turn a nice profit.  If you are maintaining your quality and selling healthy well started animals you deserve to make a profit.  If you aren't maintaining your standards you won't be in the business long anyway.  

Also, I've noticed that his stock excuse for bailing on locked in deals seems to be to cry poor mouth.  " I've had a few setbacks"  This seems to conflict with his other statements of "being set for life" and not having to worry about money.  Kind of interesting (and contradictory) Gilbert.  If you are doing this, as you say, to spare our feelings, don't bother.  We are all adults and can probably stand the horrible shame and discomfort of making you "uncomfortable".  You are right...it IS your money.  I, for one, would prefer you keep it.  Your somewhat psychotic responses to the last several posts have most definitely made you persona non grata to any sane person reading this thread

My last comment is this.  By my count, 8 breeders have now stated in this thread that you have treated them in this appallingly unprofessional and inconsiderate manner.  Only one person has stated that you have treated them fairly.  That's a pretty lousy percentage.

 I have come across as being better than others.  I did not intend for that to happen.  It just did!!  I feel like I am no better than the next.  That is obvious I potrayed this due to the last several childish post.  
 To all the kids that are seeing this.  Jason is right on one thing!!  I have showed my butt and lost focus of the origianl issue at hand.

That is basically stating that you are going to fight them.
Any self respecting man will not make comments like that. If a situation gets to a physical point and he has to defend himself that is one thing, but to encourage it is another.  Yes I was a cop and I know what it is like being under the scrutiny of Superiors, peers, as well as the public, that is precisely why you should hold yourself to a higher level than act this way.  I do not support Cop haters or such, but that is their right to feel that way. it is their freedom of speech.  I defended the freedoms of US Citizens in the Military as well as working in Law Enforcement.  
I would suggest again that you keep your money, and if you want to purchase something from someone, please get as you said "all your ducks in a row" and then purchase the animal.  If your problems are with a person's business ethics or quality of animlas then yes you have lied. You have told them that you have had a few set backs.  I am a person that if you have a problem with me, by all means inform me, but don't sit there and lie to me and make up excuses or stories to sugar coat it.  If you honestly have had concerns with all of these people you have pulled this stunt on, then I would suggest you stick to spending your money with those few you say will sell you animals again.  If they are so great then have them get the animals you desire and don't bother or spend your time on anyone else.
