Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

In December, I went to the Hamburg, PA reptile show and acquired a Taiwan Beauty Snake. A couple days later I noticed the snake had mites. I didn't think this was too much of a big deal, but it would have been nice to be warned from the sales guy. Then, a week or so later I noticed the snake was breathing from it's mouth. I immediately thought it was RI, it was not, it was stuck shed that was in the nostrils, it came off in a shed. The snake was doing fine for about a month and a half, eating and shedding normally, then on the morning on February 22nd he died. This was a day after a shed, I noticed the tip of the mouth was red and discolored, I was worried but I thought that I would give it a day and if it did not go away I would consult a vet. I didn't make it past that stage.
I contacted Glades Herp way before the death, I asked them if they were in the location I bought the snake from. They weren't sure, and said they're always in the same spot. I went to the show, on February 23rd (day after the death) and indeed the people were there and it was Glades Herp. Now, I said I was going to talk to them but because of a tight schedule I decided not to. I emailed them asking if maybe I could get a refund for what I paid for the snake. They just said that I don't sound like a reasonable person and basically said no. These are the e-mails (from most recent to oldest):

Paulina,

You were at the show but you were too busy to talk to us and now you’re irate I have not offered a refund you did not ask for. You don’t sound like a reasonable person.

Yeah, and this will go on the BOI, and your rep will most likely get ruined if you just sit back and do nothing. I understand I bought the snake from you 2 months ago, but because you guys didn't have a logo or anything I didn't exactly know who I bought the snake from after I noticed it wasn't well. Only until the recent show did I find out it was you guys. You should at LEAST send me a refund of $45, which is what I paid.

I saw you guys at the show, yet I was kind of busy so I couldn't talk. But, indeed, I bought the snake from you guys. Sadly, he died on Friday due to unknown causes. I suspect internal parasites. Overall the snake was in poor shape from the beginning, and I was surprised the man that sold me it didn't tell me one thing about the snake. I am pretty disappointed, since you guys usually have a good reputation.

Thanks, I'm planning to go. If it is indeed you guys, I'd like to talk about those beauties...

Paulina,

We are usually in the same place every show but since I don’t go to the show, I sent the animals to a friend who works the tables for me, I would suggest attending the next show and looking us up then.

Thanks,

I'm just tryng to get in contact with the person because the snake was in bad shape, thin, had mites and a bad shed that led me to think the snake had RI. I just noticed you guys had beauties on your for sale list, and I believe there were only a couple people that were selling them.

Paulina,

I’m not sure if that was us. What did you need to know?

Subject: Question About Hamburg Show Last Dec.

Hello, I'm trying to find a breeder tha sold me a Taiwanese Beauty Snake. I knew you guys were at the Hamburg Show in Dec. of '07. Was your table located by the food station?

Now, I may be taking this a little too fast and maybe it is too late, but I think people should be warned about the animals and that they should thoroughly check them out before buying.

1) you personally selected and picked this snake out.

2) mites at reptile shows aren't uncommon. there are so many people and animals, i'm surprised there aren't more outbreaks of things worse than mites.

3) you're angry, but guess what, that species isn't the easiest to care for. i've owned a few and one just decided to die one day after living a perfectly healthy life and the necropsy showed nothing at all wrong with it. they remind me of how coral snakes can just die for no reason. not all snakes acclimate to captivity and this goes for CB snakes as well.

4) you chose to NOT speak with them in person and seemed to have contacted them after the fact. you handled it poorly IMO.

5) they are huge. the largest reptile dealer period. they COULD get away with screwing a lot of folks over, but from my personal experience with them, they are good guys. they aren't perfect, but they're so busy, perfection isn't possible. they're constantly doing shows here or there and are a business that either makes money or tanks. if you had handled it differently, they may have worked with you but personally, i wouldn't have. you picked the snake out and that's life. learn from it but blaming others isn't going to help.

being screwed over is one thing, being mad because something you had total control over didn't go your way is another

after reading it again, you sound 100% ridiculous. can you even prove you purchased it from them to start with?

you weren't even sure it was them after a month or two.

and still, YOU selected the snake that you claim was so messed up.

you also can't even prove why it died.

Customers like this are a prime example of why i am so hesitant to even sell to the public, take online payments, and ship through Fedex. It is becomming as dangerous to be a seller as it used to be to be a online buyer.

I know Robroy, Robbie, and Zelph. I am fairly close to them, rop off animals at thier place every year when one of my foriegn customers orders through them every spring, and I see them regularly at shows. They are decent people, and can get some amazing animals that relatively few people get. Just like anyone with high volume, imports, and wc stuff you have to look at what your buying, pay for what you want-not what is the cheapest I can get, and quarantine appropriately. THey are no different than any other vendor-except they are a legit business that has been around forever.

If the customer had just said "poo poo they gave me mites", then I would have assumed them guilty, as anyone who does high volume, and import stuff usally has something with mites at any one time. Although the fact that they don't even know who they really bought it from, don't have a reciept, didn't do an inspection of the snake until it started having problems, was trying to give it away anyhow on another thread, didn't have enough time to stop by and talk to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!, then to wave the im telling the boi as a threat.

Man, has this customer gone off the deep end. This has red flags all over it that they are trying to bait and switch a dead animal onto Glades.

Paulina, you have lied on multiple occasions. Anything you state is suspect.

According to thread that I locked you killed that snake but some time later in chat you stated the snake was alive and you were telling a story. You also posted pictures.
You stated you got rid of the BP that Steve gave you but on another forum you stated you still have him.

Every other word you type is fabrication.

This girl is not to be trusted.

She is a BAD buyer.

She is a liar.

She knows little to nothing about any reptile, yet claims to know what she's doing.

She is NOTHING but a royal pain in the butt.

Paulina, they call what your trying to do here Blackmail !

After killing the animal yourself you have the gumpsion to ask them for a refund and then say if they don't give your money back you going to try using the BOI to Blackmail them! Yeah you'll go far around here ! Hopefully very far away.. Randy

I have bought from Glades in the past. They are always very upfront about animals either being WC or CBB. Never had an issue out of them at all. IMO they are very good people.

she kills the snake in December and it re-dies in February, then she has the audacity to attempt blackmail. geeze. I wonder if anyone is going to tell her mommy or the police what the girl is doing in her spare time.

I have not dealt with them yet, but I will soon. I will also add that this thread should not stop anyone from dealing with them, the thread starter is no trust worthy.

Paulina, you have a lot of nerve to threaten this business.

First you say that you put it down, then you post a pick in chat for all of us to see. Does this look familiar?????? I'm sure that Dennis Hultman can check the time and date stamp on this pic.

This little girl (13 years old) has been a real pain in the butt to many of us on this forum.

I would suggest that you go away Paulina, go far away and leave the good people of fauna alone. You have shown that your maturity level is much lower than your age.

#1 Bought snake in person
#2 Had snake for over 2 months, close to 3
#3 Lied in the past about the same snake.
#4 Snake dies and you "guess" at what killed it, even though you admit that you thought there were all these other issues, none of which you took the snake to the vet for.
#5 You then threaten to make them look bad, after the snake dies, after 3 months of you 'caring for' it, when you weren't sure you bought it from them, didn't bother to talk to them in person at the show, and after you pulled the games here ALREADY?

Either you seriously have some mental issues about personal responsibilty, or you just figured you weren't getting any attention lately, and decided to stir trouble up again.
Stop buying pets, and get a rock. Try not to break the rock.

I don't know nor particularly care about Paulina. However, I have done business with Glades and of the "Bigtime" vendors/wholesalers they are about the only ones I would do repeat business with. I bought some Vivid line thayeri and a couple other snakes from them not long ago and they were perfect. More than I can say for most of these types of businesses.

She is 13 years old now? If this is true, then combined with this fact ->
Join Date: 01-23-2007

And the fact that the registration system here is set to REJECT registrations from anyone under 13 years of age, she obviously lied about her age when she registered here.

Not that anything more really needs to be posted to discredit this young lady.. But, I have been to just about every Hamburg, PA show in the past few years and i can say for sure that Glades NEVER sets up their table anywhere near the food station. They ALWAYS set up to the left of the front door, which is clear across the room from the food station??

This girl kills a snake after 3 months then tries to get a refund? Then throws Glades under the bus here on the BOI and she is not even sure she got the snake from them in the first place??? That's just silly!

This type of customer is an animal vendors worst nightmare for sure! :ack2:

I've killed my fair share of snake in the past. Mostly from being young and stupid and ignorant and irresponsible.

I've regretted not providing those poor guys with the care and conditions they needed. I laid off for a long time (>10 years) and am finally at a point where I have the resource and maturity to deal with what they need.

I am not going to soften any blows because it's a very serious matter. It's a life, it has feelings, it can feel pain.

Learn from your mistakes and don't repeat them. I agree that the best thing to do is wait until you can care for them before you get them and are in control of how much comfort or pain they feel. I don't know if they feel joy but I know they feel pain.

Good luck, P. Do the responsible thing. Stay away from keeping anything that you can't care for.
