In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Glades Herp Farm Inc

Wow! I can't believe their response to your email! I will put them on my list of people to NEVER buy from. It sounds like your best course of action may be to get that poor guy/girl cleared up and just spread the word about these people. What terrible service.

I have a hard time believing that Timm is a manager there. He's like 17 years old and not very experienced. He comes on one of the forums I'm on and asks some pretty basic newbie questions. I always thought he was a nice kid and have tried to help him out. After seeing this, he won't get my help any more.

Honestly, after having reviewed my images, I clearly can see that your animal had it's eye open. On it's right side. Even if you send me an image of the animal with it's right eye closed, I won't be able to proceed with any refund or further discussion. I politely request that you do not contact me further. I do apologize that you are not pleased with our animals, so please do not purchase from us in the future. Enjoy your tortoise.
Thank You,
Timm Smith

Wow that is just so arrogant and sarcastic. I am trying to figure out what it even means when he says he "clearly can see that your animal had it's eye open. On the right side." What does that even have to do with whether or not the animals eye was swollen and infected? If the eye is infected it's going to be swollen whether it's open or closed. Either way that animals eye is clearly swollen and infected. I think he's trying to avoid the issue by saying some meaningless giberish and hoping you get confused.

I immediately called their office and talk to them. This is what they said "You inflicted this on the tortoise. You are upset with Robroy for delaying the shipment, so now you're finding flaws with the tortoise and blame it on us."

First they say you "inflicted" it, then they say you "found" the flaw. Well which is it? It can't be both. It sounds as if they were making lies up as they went and then they couldn't decide which one they wanted to use and they accidentally used both.

not surprised...

I was a customer when they were based in Fort Myers back in the 90's and early 2000's... and I was ruitinly disappointed and more frequently screwed via a sudden "up" in prices, and right in front of my face. I would have moved on and looked elsewhere, but they were the only herp dealer in the area at the time. Thankfully, they're Bushnell's problem now...

They don't care about their customers, and it's very apparent that they could care less about their animals...

Needless to say, I don't deal with them anymore...

That's just aweful. Yeah, I saw how they told you that you inflicted it and then turned right around and said you "found" issues with the tortoise and are blaming them. Well, you JUST received it so if it has any flaws period, it IS their problem.

Talk about self-contradicting. Please do keep us posted on how the wee tortoise does. That poor baby.

I definitely agree just try to minimize stress, give him/her a nice hot spot, well hydrated and keep the area as clean and dust free as you can for this kid so you can see if the eye will clear up on its own.
Wishing you and this kiddo the best in a speedy recovery. Sorry to hear how it all turned out. :(

Kindest regards,

Amanda Rose

Glades

I wouldn't buy anything from Glades sight unseen. Either go to their place or see them at a show, this at least puts the odds in your favor. I purchased an adult corn snake and a yearling Eastern Diamondback from them in the early 90's (through the mail). The corn snake threw up everything until it finally died, and the EDB did very well, so my experience has been 50/50.

Having said that, I won't purchase anything over the internet, no matter who it's from. If I can't pick it up at a show, where I can inspect it and determine for myself that it appears to be in reasonable health, I'll just hang on to my money for another show.

He is doing great! He's eating like a champ. The right eye is slowly healing. He's able to open and close the eye but I have to soak him in water everyday to hydrate his eyes. Still a little puffy tho. I will love the little guy regardless. Thanks for all your support guys!

WOW. He got the nerve to post this on my thread on Ball-Python.net.....

Timm Smiths reply to:Re: BAD GUY Glades Herp Farm Inc

Greetings all, it is unfortunate that I have not been able to address this very clouded situation sooner, but as it seems to have resolved itself.

It is common enough knowledge within the reptile world for at least the last 4 years, if you were calling and having to do business with Glades Herp, at a show or over the phone, that I, Timm Smith, formerly now again of aforementioned long-existing reptile specialty store (20+years now) was the individual you wanted to deal with. I worked there over 6 years, but only worked the phone and email for over 4. Before that was the unique animal husbandry work that allowed me to learn an invaluable amount about a very huge variety of flora and fauna.

I have always done my very best to satisfy MY customers. I frequently had orders mishandled due to negligence on the behalf of my own coworkers, yet still have an excellent track record for having to work under such adverse conditions of internal sabotage.

There were several errors on the behalf of the individual's who "sold" the tortoise to you before I was ever aware of an order. I contacted you one day later than you expected to receive the tortoise initially because paperwork was not in it's correct file.Upon coordination of shipping, I selected what I assessed to be a completely "salleable" and sound baby tortoise based on creditable years of daily work with tortoises. Shipped said animal and started receiving phone calls referencing an eye infection that I do not believe existed. A lot more phone calls and emails went back and forth between myself, customer, and also other parties.

The issue essentially resolved itself by default in an unexpected and unethical conclusion. After days of email explaining the "conditions" of the tortoise, by which point I believe I had already sent my oft-reprinted and eloquently worded reply in which I request that customer does not purchase from Glades Herp, a long standing entity with a history of issues, nor from myself personally, acting now as an individual or then when I was operating at Glades, as our transient opinions on what constitutes a quality animal, and because I do not want to damage my reputation, even when I worked for a company with a history of problems attributed to a long list of individuls, I was and still am EXTREMELY discerning in my selection of animals so that I could slowly build a good reputation.

A reputation that can be damaged or affected by simple posts on a BOI slamming someone. I knew that by telling someone that they should not purchase from us that by virtue of this being career suicide, my quote would wind up on a board of inquiry and the issue could be discussed, as I maintain my integrity as an individual and wish only to be judged as such.

So there, I wrote you a book. And this is my very FIRST post.

Btw, customer did keep the tortoise. And charged a refund thru PayPal. Who is crooked? Look forward to speaking to the members of this site, and this sure was a warmup for the rest of the writing I have to do now.

Best Regards,

Timm Smith

By the way, I love tokay geckos, long walks pretty much anywhere, and my life.

So he says It's not his felt its the people that work for him. Then why does he have workers that can tarnish his company's name? Being manager what your workers do if your fault

Also this makes no sense.

LOL...none of it made sense. The whole letter, or whatever it was supposed to be, seemed like nothing more than someone shaking a thesaurus like a snow globe, then trying to rearrange all the big words that fell out into something that looked like sentences and paragraphs.

I'll give him an A on punctuation, though.

Judy, stop having a transient opinion. ;)

I'm just curious how I can manage employees, yet nothing they do is my fault nor is it anything I'm responsible to rectify? Also, I can call a customer a liar even after given photographic proof to the contrary?

This is a classic case of someone who thinks entirely too highly of themselves because of where they work (unjustifiably, I might add), and condescends to their customers. Someone who learned the "big talk of the reptile world" before they learned proper English. Someone who assumes that Glades (and himself... don't forget himself) can simply survive on charisma and reputation alone, such as it is. I wonder if the owners not being able to pay back thousands and thousands of dollars owed to a customer gives this guy even one moment's pause, to consider if being profitable might actually be more important than being "right", even though he's not.

Guess not. Boggles the mind really. Explains a lot of other recent Glades threads, though...

Nothing funnier than watching the pseudo intelligent misuse words they do not know the meaning of. :D

BTW, I kept the tortoise because I grew attached to it. Nothing was resolved.
My last resort was to call Paypal for a dispute on the transaction. But Paypal was not able to do anything since it was a live animal transaction. I did NOT receive any refund. GLADES HERPS FARM IS BY FAR THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE DELT WITH.....EVER!!!!! Urghh.....:censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::angry:

:shrug01::shrug01::shrug01:

So on one hand, he's insisting that the turtle is fine, but on the other hand alluding that it may have received poor treatment through one of his "negligent" coworkers, something about he may or may not have told "someone" they shouldn't buy from Glades, AND he wants to be "judged" as an individual rather than associated with where he works? And then something about Tokay geckos??

What on EARTH does any of that have to do with the poor turtle's eye infection?

Glades vends at all the Repticons down here, but I certainly won't ever be a customer of theirs.

Timm's just a kid who works there. As he said, he answers the phones. He likely doesn't even have any authority to give refunds or anything else. The question is, where's the REAL management of this company? Glades used to have a great reputation back when Bill Love owned it. They've been riding on that reputation ever since.

Ethan you are right about that. I remember getting those neon green lists as a kid. I would not buy anything from Glades now; not even a box of tic-tac's.

By the way, I watched part of their show once. Talk about exploiting animals on ALL fronts... they take the cake. Disgusting. Every bit of this and that.

Later...

It is a horrible show. I understand they want some drama but they spit out some extremely bad info.
