    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My first shipment from glades was last month, i live in illinois and it was starting to get cold and i was a little nervous.
But after i open the box and seen the PROFESSIONAL packing job
my fears were over . Yesterday i ordered again and the temp was 13 i knew if they pack all there animals that way there would be no problem my animals arrived this morning and they are outta sight! They were eating within minutes.
Thank You all at glades for doing such a great job and i know i will be ordering more from you in the future.

I must agree!

I have ordered ALOT of spiders and scorpions from them for the store that I work at for the past 2+ years. Every transaction from them has been top notch! Great animals, service, prices, and people. I would personally like to thank Bob who works with the arachnids at Glades for the great animals and support. Do NOT hesitate to buy from Glades Herp!
 
I have bought from Glades in the past, but since I saw them sell a Cobra to a young man when he admitted that he had no experience with hots, no handling equipment (not even a hook), and no clue ew to get it out of the deli cup, I will NEVER buy from them again for moral reasons.

That's not so cool. In all fairness I've had only good dealings with Glades, and they always insisted on seeing and photocopying my current VR license even though they recognize me as a regular venomous buyer.
 
I dont doubt that Tanyth, but sales in state and at a hot show are two different things ;)
 
Well that's just scary. Thanks for the heads-up. Do you know who it was at the Glades table that did this?

It's an ethically questionable point as to whether or not a seller is responsible for making sure the buyer will not hurt himself with the merchandise. I think that the degree of responsibility varies depending on what you are selling. A lot of people get killed in drunk driving accidents. Liquor sellers have to make sure they sell only to people of legal age. Should they have responsibilities beyond that?

I think that because a bite to a novice keeper could have such bad repercussions on our hobby, there is a higher standard of responsibility. Unfortunately there is only so far you can go on a practical basis if you are a dealer. Somebody might be able to talk a good game and claim to have kept cobras for 10 years when in fact they just got their first corn snake last week. Can a dealer visit everybody's snake room or watch them handle? Not really, and certainly not at a show.

I think we should encourage dealers to at least ask a few questions and have the buyer state that they are experienced enough to handle the animal. Specifically I would like to see venomous snakes sold only to people who are absolutely confident of their ability to go hands-on for thorough veterinary exam and treatment, especially WC animals. That is my personal standard for selling or trading a snake to anyone. But that isn't a practical standard for most dealers, unfortunately.
 
I agree wholeheartedly that we can only do so much to ensure that our cares to to responsible keepers. I think R.F. was the one that escorted the buyer out. I will never forget him asking RF how to get it out of the deli cup! Sales of venomoids jaded me against Glades, this just sealed the deal. It is a shame too, because they had several animals I wanted at the last few Hot Shows, but I refuse to buy from them.
 
Hmmm. Is Glades just brokering a few venomoids that happened to show up in trade or from their regular supplies, or are they making a regular business of it and actually having them butchered for profit?
 
That i don't know. They just had them at the tables so i never looked back ;)
 
Let me guess. Was this situation at the show in HOT South Carolina? I attended and vendored at that show one time and witnessed some scarey things from a few Vendors.
 
I have recv'd three shipment this last fall from GLADES.All were well packed & healthy animals.Absolutely no problems(turtles & snakes).As far as venemoids go...well...personally i don't like them BUT i don't like cigarettes either & that doesn't keep me from buying groceries from my,otherwise,favorite store.;)

I had a problem with their packing, once, but in general they do a pretty good job. They put four venomous snakes in the same bag and one of them turned up dead, most likely killed by one of the others. I don't think that is their normal practice however. All the other times I have dealt with them they have done very well in that respect.


As far as venemoids go...well...personally i don't like them BUT i don't like cigarettes either & that doesn't keep me from buying groceries from my,otherwise,favorite store.;)

Cigarettes don't involve torturing animals in inhumane and illegal ways. The venomoid industry does, so I choose not to support it. Most venomoids made for sale to the private sector are not done by veterinarians, but by profit minded amateur home butchers. That's unacceptable.
 
I should mention that I don't put a lot of blame on Glades for that packing job; the snakes in question were rear fanged and not generally known for interspecies biting or cannibalism. It was an odd sort of thing to happen and I don't think anyone could have reasonably expected it. These snakes (Psammophis and a few other oddities) were in a large lot destined for a venom lab to study some of their toxins.

We took the loss of a single specimen pretty much in stride, and simply warned them about the odd occurrence. I'm sure if we had bothered asking for a refund of the small amount of money they charged us for the single specimen, they'd have given it, but we didn't ask. I don't count it as a "bad guy" situation at all, just an odd fluke.

I have only purchased small lizards from Glades Herp.
Staff were helpful, packaging was fine, shipping was on time and a smooth process. The number of animals were correct, the species ordered were not quite correct, but considering how similar they are, I didn't complain and just accepted what I got.
(I ordered 4 Cnemidophorus tessalatus and I got only 1 accompanied by 3 Cnemidophorus tigris . ) The remainder of the order was fine.
I will do business with them again.

That is a question I will assuredly be asking the next time I'm shopping, especially when it's on behalf of a venom lab putting in a large order. :)
 
I've been to Glades a few times over the years,and thier animals are pretty good.I'm a turtle guy who can get pretty picky on setups,thiers are pretty good.Ive never had any of thier stuff shipped.I take the 3 hour ride across the state.:)
 
Glades

I ordered some Uromastyx benti from Glades a few years ago. The specimens photographed looked robust and with good weight in their tails. I contacted Glades and was promptly assured that the specimens I was inquiring about, were in apparent good health and of good tail mass.
What I received were 2.1 U. benti, which were emaciated. However, I was able to save, and acclimate, 1.1 of them, the other 0.1 never came around.
Since U. benti are quite rare and notoriously difficult to acclimate, I wrote the female, which passed, off as a learning experience.
Since then, my experiences with Glade's have been very professional, though they have typically "sold" whatever it was I was interested in, by the time I inquire about it.
I have never seen them offer venomoids, but the fact they would sell any venomous, especially an Elapid, to a novice is cause for grave concern. The state of Ohio is currently considering a "BAN ALL" policy becuase of the firefighter killed by his "pet" Bitis gabonica. The last thing we need to do is give the opponents of keeping reptiles more ammunition. IMHO

not related to Glades:
I could not agree more. It is a double edged sword trying to weed out the bad without those Bad People being viewed as the herp community as a whole by the public, media and govt. THis is particularly true of hot keepers.
