In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Anyone have recent dealings with them? I've already searched here on the BOI and get a couple threads, mostly good stuff. I know they don't respond much to emails (which is always a irritation to me), but besides that.....whats anyone's experience been with Glades?

Thanks,
Michael Crabtree

Picked up some Leopard Geckos from them about a decade ago to give you an idea of how long they've been around. Quality, packaging, and shipping were all on the money!

I've purchased and traded with them many many times and they've always been a pleasure to do business with.

I spoke with Tim Smith this morning. It turns out that he was the one who bred the snakes I was interested in. He was very helpful and informative. I purchased the snakes over the phone and I will be picking them up at the Louisiana Reptile Expo in Westwego next month. I'm optimistic about the transaction and will keep this thread updated with any new developments.

Hopefully, I'll be posting pics of my new acquisitions in 3 weeks.

Glades is one of the oldest names in the reptile business/hobby...literally.

With that kind of experience, not a whole lot gets past them in terms of flaws/illness and they definitely know how to ship...meaning you can probably expect quality animals and you won't have to worry about getting something packed in a paper bag (believe it or not, I've had that happen from less than seasoned reptile people).

The best part about dealing with a place that has been around is that you know they have a reputation to protect...if something isn't right, they're not going to disappear or play the blame game with you.

High quality animals. I prefer to inspect at shows before I buy as they have been known to have sold animals with mites. They do have quite the selection.

I spent quite a bit of money with Robbie & Robroy. I only had one purchase issue that was quickly resolved by calling. I thing think it's as close to "can't go wrong" as you can get.

I have bought from them 4 times, mostly back in the 90's... The animals were average. But they didn't do anything unethical. It's really hard to see animals before you buy from them. I think that's the main reason I wont buy from them again.

I purchased 2 tortoise hatchlings from them a year ago after a coworker recommended them to me. Their communication was great. I talked to them mainly over the phone, but also I requested pictures of the ones they were going to send. They even let me pick out which ones I wanted by photos. It meant a lot to me to have them go out of their way to do that and their prices were very decent. Packaging and shipping was great too. They arrived in good condition, and when promised.
One did have pinworms (very few) but I figured they were just feeding him bugs or pinkies early. Other than that they were in good health and very pretty.

Cindy, Did I get that right?
You say you thought Glades were feeding baby tort's pinkies and bugs?
Did they tell you that?

What specie of tortoises did you recieve?
Thanks,

Randal

I bought multiple animals from Glades in 2007. Always received quality animals and good service. They are a little pricey, but the animals are well represented and excellent quality unless otherwise stated.

I purchased 2 redfoot hatchling. Only one (the 3 month old) had pinworms. i work with reptiles on a daily basis and we see pinworms mainly in animals that have eaten crickets and mice because they carry pinworms. Sometimes it is just "passing through" and sometimes the pinworm can actively infect the reptile. Either way, we usually deworm them if we find more than one or two or in any species that normally doesn't come in contact with them.
So noone ever told me what they were eating officially, I just assumed since I can't think of another reason why a hatchling that young would have pinworms.

Rob has been around for a long time. He has always been honest with us. Always has been fair in his dealings.

I've bought several geckos from them and have always been happy. Last month I had them bring back a bunch from the Hamm show in Germany and was really happy with everything. I always drive up there for pick up and usually spend over an hour getting a tour of the place and just talking with Timm Smith(the gecko guy). I definately plan on getting more from them in the future.

nice pair of Dumerils

I bought a pair of adult dumerils from them at the Tampa, Fl show last fall. they were at an amazing price... and in October she popped out some babies... quite a pleasant surprise. They must of missed their copulations and her ovulating. The same pair has been breeding this season. I couldn't be happier with the animals and I would gladly do business with them again.
