In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Has anyone done bought or dealt with this company before?
They have some animals i am interested in.
I did a quick search and didn't find anything i'm especially interested in their shipping (considering the weather) ya know.
Thanks Tim Stockton.

Tim,
we will be out of town until tuesday of next week, so if you email us, please be aware that we will not answer emails until tuesday evening..
Thank You
Jeff and Jewell

I have done business with Jeff Lewis before and am very happy with the animals I have recieved. He's never had to ship anything to me(picked my stuff up at shows), but I'd guarantee he and Jewel use the safest and best methods out there. :)

We picked up a couple of aussie water dragons from Jewel about a year ago. Very smooth transaction, no problems. Both are still doing well--never had any issues.

I bought 3 adult corn snakes from Golden Serpent over a year ago before I knew about the BOI.

All 3 were supposed "breeders."

They arrived here cold, skinny, and did NOT look like breeder-size to me. One had a lump on her side. When I emailed, I was told they were someone elses' snakes and they knew nothing about them-and that the lump on her side was probably built-up shed. Then why did they advertise them?

Needless to say, I traded the one with the lump to someone who knew it had a lump. I have not heard back from her on how the snake is doing. I lost the best looking one of them a few months ago to an abscess that the vet confirmed she more than likely had when I got her-she was never a good eater, but her necro showed that she had probably swallowed a live mouse and it bit her inside her throat. Something I could not have noticed until it was too late. I never feed live if I can help it-so it didn't happen here.

The third is still here, and has been treated for internal parasites-she was loaded with them.

I was pretty angry about it-but again, I did not know about the BOI back then, so never posted.

Be careful, they are animal brokers, and you never know where they get their stuff from. I believe them when I was told that the trio was not their animals, but regardless, knowing what I know now, they should not have been sold until they were all healthy. Ask the history on any herps you get!

Was that the diagnostic of a vet? In all these years I have never seen one case where the mouse was swollen alive (in snakes that kill by constriction). Yes, live mice can and will bite if given the chance even when they are in the snake coils. Some snakes will even let the mouse go if the bite is nasty. That bite can produce a wound in any part of the body, including head, jaws, eyes, etc. But inside the throat? For the snake to receive a bite inside the throat it means that she was swallowing the mouse alive. Snakes that kill by constriction wait until the mouse is dead before starting to swallow. But maybe someone has seen something different. I would attribute that abscess to something else. Just my opinion.

alvaro, have you ever taken a snake that was predominantly fed f/t and never live, and try to feed it live? In most cases, that particular snake will NOT constrict. They will just swallow the food down, wiggling, squeaking, and all.

My vet said she had seen it happen before-especially in corn snakes fed only f/t and then fed live.

Regardless, this was so long ago, that nothing can be done about it now-I was merely responding to an inquiry request with a note about my experience.

I bought a redfoot from Jewell a while back and it was just as perfect as she described. Everything went very smooth including the shipping.

I just thought I would throw my 2 cents worth in.

Clara,

As with everything in biology one should "never say never". Having said this in my 40 years keeping snakes I have never experienced it myself. I've had corns, kings, milks, ball pythons, boas, mussuranas, etc. Never did I see a snake eat a hopper/adult mice (the only ones that would actually bite) without constricting it first. I have even fed stunned mice to 4 feet plus boas and they constrict it "to make sure" it is safe to swallow. I have seen it happen with other snakes such as hognoses. But hey, as I started my post maybe someone has experienced it. Anyways, as you said it was just a comment.

Have a good one! :)

I dont EVER remember selling you anything. I am VERY good with remembering who buys things from me and what they buy.
When did I supposedly sell you these 'snakes' that were not mine. First of all 99% of all the animals I sell ARE mine as I pay for them. The other one percent come from people that want a rediculous amount of money for something and I list them and ship them.
What kind of snakes were they / where are you located and if I sent such crappy looking animals to you why did you not send them back for a refund? I do have a three day guarantee unless it is stated clearly otherwise and it is amphibians or chameleons.
I assume you noticed what ever you thing was wrong within the three day period. Correct?

Also if you say I sold you these animals and you are accusing me of this sending such bad animals to you, I do ASSUME that you have proof of this or I will take an apology for lying on me. I dont know you and have done nothing (that I know of to cause you to say things like this) I do this for a living not as a hobby and rumors like this wont kill my business but could be the difference between paying my bill late or on time.

If you do have proof (emails where I supposedly told you all this OR an airbill (that was dated for when was again?) that shows MY account number and your address on it with MY signature...

I am sorry if I seem to be upset, I am. I sometimes do make mistakes with somethings but I do not believe that this was MY mistake I actually think you have me mixed up with someone else.
The only CLARA I know is my mom(dead) and my oldest daughter(hates me and reptiles).
Thanks and I am waiting for your proof

We are not just Animal "brokers"..
I, Jeff, not Jewell, take serious offense to your allegations..
First off, any colubrids that we PURCHASE, either comes from Lee Abbott or John Schmidt..
Anyone that knows those two breeders knows that they would NEVER sell something as you described.
Furthermore,, WE WOULD NEVER PURCHASE SOMETHING, MUCH LESS SELL SOMETHING,, THAT LOOKED AS YOU DESCRIBED!!!!\
If there had been something wrong, we would have refunded your money immediately!!!
\ Also, you have been a registered user at least for a little while now.. Why has it taken sooooooo long for you to post..
Our reputation speaks for itself, and bull[bleep] allegations will do nothing to harm our business..\
I would be very interested to see your PROOF..
As for being brokers, we own EVERY FRICKIN ANIMAL WE HAVE,,,PERIOD!!!!
Jeff

Jeff.... Don't sugar-coat it.... tell her like it is??.... lol

I will agree with you, though.... I have never seen a sick animal in your inventory.... she's probably mistaken you with someone else....

I have a receipt here that says the snakes came from Golden Serpent Animal Brokers, 33157 Cassandra Way, Ridge Manor, FL 33523 with a ph # of 352-583-3352.

The number on it is 000035. It was dated Jan 21, 2003.

If this was a different Golden Serpent, then my apologies. If you want copies of this receipt I can scan them and post them here.

Sincerely,
Clara Turnbull-Murphy (formerly Oliver)

one more thing. If you had taken the time to read through my post carefully, I did state that this was over a year ago. Now back then, I had little knowledge about corn snakes except the two sub adults I had (which were much smaller than the 3 Golden Serpent sent me). So how was I to know?

When I first got them, all ate but the one that passed on a few months ago. Which is why I didn't bother to e-mail. I figured it was just shipping stress. As for the lump on the one, I did email about it, and was told it was probably stuck shed. Unfortunately, I no longer have copies of the e-mails, all I have is this receipt.

The receipt states BLACK CORN SNAKE TRIO on it. Which is exactly what I got. It was supposed to be for one male and two females, and I ended up getting 3 females-not a big deal, didn't find that out until I had traded off one of them and had the other two sexed a month later after they had settled in.

You people act as if I'm asking for a refund or something, which I am not, as it _has_ been well over a year. All I was doing was responding to someone's inquiry on you. Exactly what this board is for.

THE INVOICE AND ADDRESS

Clara
That is definately my old address. The only Trio of corns I sold last year that were breeders were Anery Corns that were over 3 feet long(2females and 1 male). The guy that bought them did say that they were cool (as they were delayed by ups for whatever reason) but they were fine and I heard nothing back (that I remember) But I also remember this being a man that bought them,.
These Anery corns were not wild caught and they did come directly from Lee Abbot(I am sure that Mike Greathouse, John Schmitt, And Tim Thomas can vouch for his animals not being in the bad shape that you say they were in) Two days before I shipped. I trust these people implicitly and did not look closely at them but pictures of them were posted with the ad that they were bought from.

Now as to the vet report, post it so I can read it and the date of the necropsy and the results. I have a three day guarantee on the health and life of my animals unless I state otherwise. How come you did not send it directly to me but wait an entire year to say something about it? Why would you have not asked for a refund or a replacement?

I have had inquiries on here a couple of times and you even posted on those (I think) answering other peoples posts.

Also Do you have the emails Where I told you (supposedly) that a lump was a stuck shed and do you have pictures of this lump and was it indeed a lump and not something else.

I am not denying that you bought something from me as you do have a receipt, I will check my archives(IF I can figure out how to get in to it) and see the invoice you are talking about right now i am in a hotel in Kansas City and am at a disadvantage. I cannot check any of my records from here.

I will check again tomorrow morning as I have to sit in the lobby of the hotel to use the computer.
Thanks
Jewell Howard

The one that died

Clara

You made it sound like the snake died the day after you got it and in the previous post you said it died a couple months ago.
That means you had it for over 6 months?????!!!!

How is it that you think they had the parasites when I shipped them? They could have gotten them while you had them from contaminated feeders. There is no way that you can possibly say that this is my (or Lee Abbotts fault)

AS to the sexing I took his word for it and that is my bad for not checking behind someone else.\

This is exactly why I DONT broker much and have not for over 6 months it is TOO much trouble...

AS to the thing about what I said There is no telling without seeing the emails again to refresh my or your memory so that is a dead issue.

I am sorry you were not happy with your purchase but it took you almost a year to mot be happy with it, how long of a guarantee should we all have?\

Jewell

These were anery corns, about 3-4 feet long, and when sexed, were all female. Now missexing does happen-OFTEN so it wasn't a big deal-I wanted females anyway. I also doubt they were wildcaught and never said they were. I was also told they were being sold for someone else.

The snake died about 3 months ago, not 3 days after I got her. I do not have copies of the necro report-the vet merely said that the one that died had an abscess in her throat and tests for crypto, etc came up negative. Since I wasn't going to ask for money back, as it was several months down the line, I didn't figure to get a copy of it-just wanted peace of mind that it wasn't something contagious.

When she began showing signs of illness and had to be assist-fed, the vet found the abscess in her throat. She was treated with baytril for the infection for 2 weeks before she died. It did no good, unfortunately.

I also do not keep emails past 6 months old, it clogs up my inbox. Maybe I should start. I do keep receipts from any animal I purchase, however.

The remaining snake is doing well so far. She is finally gaining weight, and was treated with panacur.
