• In the past two days I have gotten emails asking about being requested to provide credit card info in order to register and also to make a post in the classifieds forums. PLEASE NOTE: In no instance will this site ask you for this sort of information. The only time any request for payment is made is if you choose to opt-in for a higher membership level, and that is done SOLELY through PayPal. Anything else is coming from a source other than this site. My guess is that this is coming through Google Adsense, but when I can get someone to send me a screen shot of this sort of request, I will know more.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Good Snake Hooks?

So, this seems like kind of a stupid question, but I'm having trouble finding snake hooks that are suitable for large (8' and over) snakes. I've never used them before, but now that my collection has grown and some of my recent acquisitions are somewhat large and aggressive, I've been looking for something to help me pick them up without being bitten.

If any of you have advice about sturdy snake hooks suitable for larger snakes, where to find them and what brands to look for, I would appreciate your assistance.

Try forestry supplies. They might have some good ones at a descent price. We bought a nice 44.5" snake hook from them for a good price.
 
I have a decent sized female who has a bit of an attitude & even though it is rare she is ever at the very back of the enclosure, pretty it's hard to reach when her when she is. I didn't like the idea of crawling in head first but was worried about using your average hook to pull her up towards the front after reading about some snakes getting injuries or broken ribs from hooks. I order a "python hook" I found on line that is pretty massive, has a blue handle. I like that it because the hook is pretty wide, spacing out pressure against the snake. The only thing I worried about was the hook being metal, hard, & cold so I picked up some stuff called rubber dip the sell at home depot for tool handles & coated the hook part, seems to be working out okay. I took a peek at the gentleman's site Harald mentioned & it looks like he sells the same hook.
 
I was worried about the narrow range of distribution for the body weight of some of the snakes also. Really appreciate the extra info Chris. Thanks, I'll look for that.

I'm in the process of taming the new ones. I've never used hooks before, but a couple of 5-6' females that don't want to be touched can do a lot of convincing, lol.

The spacing of the hook is a good thing, but also the sturdiness of the handle. I have the size below this hook Chris is talking about and just with my 5ft female BCI it will bend somewhat. Definitely spend a little extra to make sure it's a good strong hook. Best of luck! :thumbsup:
