Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them.     Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Soooo as if I didn't have enough dragons already (two of which my mom doesn't yet know about, lol), I am somehow having a "breeding pair" of sandfires dumped on me. Who knows how sandfire they are, though.

Anyway, I've never actually hatched dragons myself before, and I'm wondering if I even should. If she is gravid, I know all about the egg box and calcium levels and egg binding and blah blah but I'm not sure if I really want to have a jillion little babies and I have NO idea what I would do with them. How often do they actually lay clutches for an entire year?

I know I don't have a real question here, I just wanted to voice my frustration :shrug01: :shrug01:
 
Im not saying that this is a good idea and I wouldnt personally do it but you could allow them to mate and freeze the eggs you dont want right after they hatch. If you only want a few then just incubate a few. They way I understand it she'll probably cycle and lay eggs anyways, and she would be better off fertile then not. I would wait to see how others respond of the freezing idea, doesnt sound too humane but its better then hatching out 80 babies that you cant care for.

You my girl are in a bind...a rescue person versus accident....hmmm...I would see that if you did hatch the eggs if a petstore in your community would buy them from you or give you store credit for them...Beardies can have a clutch every 20-25 days for up to a year. That is why I have 55 eggs now...Saphirra may have another clutch...the 55 are from 3 clutches...I bred her intentionally...I have a contract with a great local petstore..but when I had them accidentally my vet who also sold reptiles gave me store credit that I used for lights, dog shots, etc. Think about it...see if either of my suggestions is a possibility but you have to have incubators, baby tanks, lights, etc. And yes it is recommended to freeze them...Take care Beth
 
Hi all. No, I do not think it is inhumane to freeze them, but I do think it's inhumane to bring unwanted animals into the world.

Lol, I WORK at a pet store! So no problem there except that I would be the one having to take care of all of them. They wouldn't buy them from me since I already get everything free there, but they would supply tanks, lights, etc.

I may just hatch 5-6 and freeze the rest as long as we don't have any other rescues that already need homes...

We'll see : )

Do you have an incubator???? Can you try to find another petstore that would take them? But not knowing their history makes you think about adeno and other things...Take good care and let us know what you decide....Beth

Oh geez, how frustrating. I do agree, freezing them is actually more humane than bringing them into the world & not having the money to raise them or get rid of them. Plus, the adeno virus is another culprit too as Beth mentioned.
Wow that is up to you. That is a hard hard decision. I hope you can decide what to do soon.

I will talk to the owner of the pet store I work at today and see what she thinks. I will probably freeze them, I'd rather spend my time on her and my other rescues than more babies.

I do have an incubator, and the pet store has a better one (used to hatch our own leopard geckos instead of buying from wholesalers but now we have enough local breeders/rescues). Anyway, I'll let you know. Cross your fingers that she isn't even gravid, but it's unlikely.
