    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi all,
I have been working with several companies for a while trying
to get the shipping of snakes LEGAL. I am on the brink of getting it done but I need some help. I need the name of at least 22 companies that would be shipping snakes litterally everyday. I have a meeting coming up with them and want to be prepaired. They want to be assureed of how much revenue
they could be making if they were the only shipper and that we can ship in a responsible way. I am going to have to demonstrate what guidelines should be implemented, how we will pack the snakes to assure they are safe and secure, and
the potential revenue for the shipping company.

For a lot of people dealing with live animals, particularly breeders, shipping can be seasonal.  Peaks will be when the babies are hatching out, and tapering off as supplies run low and then finished when stock runs out.  So trying to nail down a daily shipping figure will be very difficult to do.  As in any other business, shipping will also depend on how many orders come in, and there is no counting on the buying public to do what you think they should.

I try to schedule my shipments on one or two days of the week.  This helps to manage my workload by allocating those days for this task. Plus Airborne charges a pickup fee if you do not have a minimum number of packages being picked up for shipment, so this helps me stay above that hurtle.

For a ballpark figure, lately my shipments have been from 4 to 12 packages a week.  If the shipping cost was cheaper, I'm sure that number would be much higher.

Allthough I do not ship a large number of snakes, this issue effects me greatly. I am no longer able to ship US Postal because they cannot get live on plains from Omaha. I cannot ship UPS cause the company policy doesnt allow live, and they open boxes in Omaha, and Airborne express got word I may be shipping snakes, and just yesterday started opening my boxes. So far I am allowed to ship lizards with them, but its only a matter of time before they realize a bearded dragon is not a frog. So I am quickly running out of any option to ship.

I ship about 10 packages a month minnimum, with up to 50 packages a month during peak season.

Although it is not an official business name, it is the name i sell by....M n R-Reptiles...from april to september minimum one package a day. Sometimes it si 10 packages or more...depends on what is available to sell. I know Xtreme reptiles sends out twenty to forty boxes a day as well as Ben Siegel..contact them to see whats up if they want to be involoved...Zoological Imports the same. Strictly Reptiles sometimes ships over 100 boxes a day. But as always..sometimes these companies dont ship a single box one day(rarely&#33<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>...Other people you can contact are glades herp, Aline reptiles, and pretty much any other importer/pet store dealer....they all ship out rahter regularly monday to thursday. Sometimes sending out on fridays with saturday delivery stickers because a pt store might need new things by the last of the week for the weekend. Contact everybody if you can on the importers/exporters section on kingsnake....and big names.

 I appreciate that your trying to get shipping snakes legalized, but obviously its already pointing towards a "KNOWN SHIPPER" or "FREQUENT SHIPPER" scenario.    
 Why should only companies have an impact on whether or not shipping reptiles becomes legal.  If your going to push for it, push for it for EVERYONE!  There are alot of guys out there who dont have a company name, or don't produce 4000 hatchlings a year.  I only ship in late summer and fall when I have an order to fill.  This is not every day, nor once a week at times.  So if I'm not a company, I shouldn't be able to LEGALLY ship?!
  I had been using USPS until the 911 disaster, when they canceled live reptile shipment.  I was labeling the box live, harmless reptiles, and never had a problem with them.  I had a box delayed once in three years or so.  UPS wont allow live animals to be shipped unless you're a petstore, and Delta dash wont accept any new customers, only known shippers.
   Instead of looking to get somthing accomplished that will only help companies or the "big name" guys, COLLECTIVELY, lets try to get something passed that will help us all.  Thanks.

Ben, thanks for coming back in and saying that.  Personally, it meant alot to me.  After all, as Im sure you would agree, this is still a hobby for many guys, and not just a business.  Sometimes, it seems that if you're not a "name" your animals arent of any quality, or of any value.  I think most of us hope to be able to enjoy this hobby, and have it to the point where it pays for itself.  I myself go down to my room, and get lost for a few hours.  It got so bad that the Mrs. had to buy me an intercom, so I could be in touch with the outside world.  I would hate to be so big, that I would have to ship everyday.  To me, that would be WORK, and I have a job already, LOL.

I think it's great that you've taken the initiative to do this as it will surely benefit us all. However, I don't think there's any way you'll be able to get an accurate depiction of the quantities of reptiles being shipped. The way I'd approach this is why not get this company to ship reptiles on a trial basis for four months and see exactly what the numbers are? There are so many people sending animals illegally that WANT to ship legally if they only have the option to do so. For example if Airborne makes it well known that they will allow shipping of all reptiles and people actually list the package contents as snakes or whatever they should be able to punch up the numbers on their computer how many animals have been shipped for a given period and what the revenues are. Money talks and when they realize just how much is involved you'll see that four month trial period extended indefinitely! The other point I'd like to make is with so much competition among the major shippers what company doesn't want to increase their business? Whoever you're negotiating with is going to be a hero in our book AND their company's eyes also. Talk about incentive! It certainly sounds like a win win situation to me, don't you agree? I sincerely thank you for making the effort you are on behalf of everyone.

Hi Ben,
Great that someone has made it that far with getting company to allow shipping of reptiles. As you have already seen most of us are not going to be shipping everyday but power is in numbers so add me to the list as well. I do have some customers that don't have a delta terminal near them which is my normal shipping company. I would be shipping about twice a week an unknown number of boxes. One thing to be prepared for is when they ask about venomous animals.

I haven't shipped yet due to the regulations contreversy that I get from local shippers, but in the future it will be a whole lot easier than depending on meeting 1/2 way and relying on others to make the pick-ups for you when you can't do it your self!

Hi Ben,

                I ship once or twice a week on average but I am still relatively small yet, but I would love it if the shipping issue would be resolved at least with one company anyway.  Right now the only legal way to ship is with delta dash and they are expensive and a lot of people dont want to have to go to the airport to pick up an animal and go thru all the B.S., and personally it is easier to ship with other companies that will come right to my door and pick them up, it saves time too. Count me in if my little business can help.
