    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

GULFCOAST REPTILES  BEWARE!!!

Thanks Jeremy for the kind words.  I try to treat others as i hope to be treated.  That is why i was so upset with the actions of Chris at Gulfcoast Reptiles.  Yes i did tell Chris that i would write to BOI and Kingsnake and VISA  BUT ONLY AFTER HE HAD HUNG UP THE FIRST TIME AND THEN TOLD ME TO #### OFF THE SECOND TIME I CALLED.  I  did offer to sell the snake as the MALE he is and have Chris simply refund the price difference and shipping to me after the sale.  I thought that was a fair offer and he would not have had to take the snake back.  His counter offer was a $20 rebate and no shipping refunded. Of course i refused that anyone would have.  He has not made any attempt since to contact ME to resolve this problem.  I have called him 4 times since 4-23 and i still have no resolve to this situation.  I will be trying once more later today to contact him to get this resolved.  I will offer to send the snake back to him at HIS expense and will expect immediate reimbursement to my Paypal account for the cost of the snake and the initial shipping. I do hope that Chris has read all these posts but i doubt it since he has made no attempt to contact me.  I have to assume he does not care.  I will let you all know what happens.  As a newcomer to this business i certainly have learned alot in the last month or so.  Thanks to several of you (u know who u are) for your support and guidance and most of all for your understanding and patience.

well, "fowl" language has no place in the herp scene...I have dealt with Chris McQuade and he was totally cool with me...when you have tons of animals going in and out it's not possible to sex everything correctly or be sure of a mite-free animal..I was impressed by the fact that when i told him that being up in canada, i needed to combine an order with one from glades, he was ok with bringing the stuff over there for bill to ship to me....nice guy
 
I can't believe this has happened with Chris McQuade. I have known Chris for almost 30 years. We met when I was 12 and he was 15 and spent many years hunting herps together around the area where we both grew up. He has always been quiet and soft spoken and I don't remember him ever raising his voice about anything let alone cusig someone out.
All I can say is there must have been something else to this story or somethig going on that Susan didn't know about that set Chris off like that. It is just not in his nature to be rude or abusive in any fashion.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I find this post to be absolutely ridiculous. You guys are coming on here posting on Chris's behalf. You posts are nothing more than heresay. Let Chris get on here and go to bat for himself.

I agree w/ Susan, she is the one who got the short end of the stick. As a customer, she sent him her hard earned money for for an incorrect product, a male, and one that had mites to begin with. The snake should not have been sent! PERIOD! What kind of moron ships a snake w/ mites? Woops? I didn't know? C'mon! There really is no mistake about it. Chris is aboslutely, undoubtedly WRONG! Let him step up. To say, "this doesn't seem like him" is ridiculous! Read between the lines.

Whether she was nice or not in pursuing the claim is irrelevant. At this point she was clearly duped, and she has a right to be frustrated. I would be. I think we all would be. He should make good on it. I would NOT return the snake to someone w/ questionable behavior, regardless of what all you nice people think of him. I would give him one chance to make good on the deal. If he chooses his way, I would let him have it.

Oh, and we purchased a pair of boas from Chris not too long ago. They're beautiful and perfect in every way. No complaints here.
 
I am in shock as well that someone is accusing Chris of cussing and bieng rude, I have only known him a few years and got to say he is probably the most soft spoken, well mannered guy in the biz!!
I have ordered colubrids from him, and both him and his wife are great people to deal with, and when they come down to Miami to deliver to some dealers down here, they are always polite and great people to hang out with. Also from hearing from others, I have not heard from one person who had anything bad to say about Chris except that he should be more technologically inclined.
I find it kind of odd that everyone expects people to know who is who, hell at Daytona he didn't even know who Ralph Davis was, why would he know who Jeremy Stone is?? He knows what he has, and what he produces and sells them at shows and every now and then on kingsnake(who his wife posts). He is not very involved in the biz in aspects of "who is who", the people he wants to know, he knows.
But if you tell him Bill Chase, Tom Crutchfield, Jerry Tresser, Chris and Gene Roucher, Mario Tabraue, Mike and Ray Van Nostrand, (in other words the old timers) He'll come up with stories like no tommorow.

Chris is a great guy and I highly recomend him I would buy from him in a heart beat, and would rather buy from him than many of these well known guys as he has in my own opinion , some of the nicest bolivians, longicaudas, argentines, colombian boas around.
And they are much more logically priced that even a novice can get a super high quality animal, and awesome looking animal.

By the way he is the guy that produced the all black ball pythons seen a few years ago at Daytona.

She gets the snake, forgot to ask for a specific sex, and is mad.

I also highly doubt, though not impossible, but doubt that the snake had mites.

Chris's collection is top notch. Can we see the vet bill showing a vet took care of the mites as you stated????

Now she realizes her deal to sell the snake went bad because it is the wrong snake, and she took care of it nicely with HER customer, now she turns to Chris demanding things and Chris being how he is slowly, and I mean that, slowly, gets more and more irritated to the point were he hangs up on her.
All provoked , as I cannot see Chris mad, he is a big guy, but with his personality, I just cannot see him mad, actually it would be funnier than scary.
He is a great guy and I cannot understand why this is happeneing.
I think there is alot more to this stry than susan? is saying, as we all know we here on the board always look for possibilities both ways, and she might be holding back to not make herself look bad.

All I know is Chris is a great guy and many many countless other dealers/breeders will say the same.

This thread is two years old (I think someone said that), but I wouldnt mind knowing how it was resolved. I aqree with Jason Shepherd on how ridiculous some of these posts are defending GCR. Chris probably is a great guy that does good business, but this obviously was not one of the instances.
If Susan was out of line why did Chris not come in here and respond? I've seen thread started over someone telling someone to F#$% Off through email and everyone jumped in saying how awful that person was and that we should never do business them, but here we are trying to figure out what could have gone wrong with Chris's day? Maybe his goldfish died? Who cares what leads to someone's cussing out of a customer, it should just never happen. This last post by Micheal was completely ridiculous. Was this story what Chris told you, or is that your imagination coming together for your friend? Someone also was asking for some proof from Susan, but I think Chris's refusal to respond to the topic was all the proof needed.
Again, Chris could be totally in the right here, but what I've seen is a women with a complaint, a respected member of the herp community vouching for her attitude and how she handled her business, a seller cussing out a customer along with sending her mites and a wrong sexed snake, the seller also ignoring the post about him on the BOI, then a bunch of people making excuses for him, even writing a little short story.
I dont know if I have ever seen a thread so biased...

Sorry, I didn't notice that this thread was so old. I saw it at the top of the forum list and jsut opened it and started reading. Never looked at the original posting date.
As for why Chris hasn't come on here and defended himself, it is because he doesn't do anything on computers. He really doesn't like them and never uses them. So you won't find him on any of the forums posting ever. His wife posts their adds on Kingsnake.com and answers their e-mails and that is about it.
We live in a different world here online where everybody knows each other through the forums and are always exchanging information. Chris on the other hand knows people from meeting them personally or on the phone. Nothing wrong with that either. He told me that he doesn't need the internet to be successful in his business and I believe him on that since he has been very sucessful thus far.
SO if any of you are expecting him to come on here and give an explanation for his actions, don't hold you breath cause it ain't gonna happen. But if you called him I am sure he wuold tell you exactly what transpired.

Regarding Chris McQuade, I have known him for 20+ yrs, and he is a great guy!
His animals are superb and he represents them honestly.

I think Susans attitude towards him probably fired him up.

Chris is very easy to deal with and he is a gentleman. And , uhh, did I mention honest?

I'll call him today and get his side of this.
 
While it is true that conflict occasionally arises, esp in this area, it should be remembered that there are at least 2 sides to every story. I am not disputing your side, as you express it; but I have also dealt with Chris at GCR for years, and found him to be great to work with. Yes, there were a couple of problems (one involving an animal he shipped not meeting my approval, the other centering around a "lost" payment that was in no way his fault), but both were quickly worked out.
That said, I agree that the reported bahavior is inappropriate/unacceptable. But what about Chris' side of the story? As we all know, any number of things can impact the way we relate to others on any given day. It is also possible that you were not as calm, cool, and collected as you believe you were. And as far as refunding your money before you return the animal...how many retail businesses do you know that will give a refund prior to receiving the returned product?? Sorry, but that is the way of the world.
Try contacting him again, but also try to be realistic with your demands. I, too, am sure that Chris will make the effort to remedy this situation.

I just met Chris and Sheila last week and they seem like great folks. I paid for a male Butter het Hypo BP and since he only lives 30 minutes away from me we could avoid the shipping charges. They both met me after work and brought the animal with them for me to inspect. He was in the shedding process but overall looked very healthy. He popped him right there in front of me to show me he was a male. He agreed to hold him until this Monday for me since I was waiting on my new rack from Reptile Basics. They answered a ton of questions for me about breeding etc. He does not use a computer and Sheila does all the listings on Kingsnake. I recommend them highly.
 
I believe you Susan, I had a bad situation with them as well...I will say this that no matter who anyone buys from , who believes you or not stick to your guns . A bad deal is a bad deal !
