In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have 150 watt halogen bulbs for heat and general lighting from big apple herp which are advertised as being for "Reptiles". My question is if just regular home depot halogen bulbs are the same thing? I have all my UV with my tube lights so all that I realyl need would be the heat and I figure there is no difference in any bulb for that purpose but wanted to be sure I wasnt missing something. I ask because I screwed up and ordered 100 watt bulbs instead of 150 watt and it is more money to send back and forth then to just take the loss.

A halogen lamp is a halogen lamp. Coated lamps may be heat diffused (frosted) and may have badging like "reptile safe"... Home Deeper more then likely has a 150w light you can use without much of a problem, seeing as this is just a basking lamp and you would of course be checking on it temp wise untill your satisifed with the temp range. You have a quasi-uinque sceniaro seeing as your enclosure is massive... You may find though that the lights from BigApple are just fine, because your specimens will climb to bask comfortably as long as they can get close enough (but of course not too close) to the 100w lights. Maybe you can make do with the lights you ordered by rearranging basking perches to accomidate the lights.

Once I painted a beautiful painting and it was perfect I should have left it alone, but fueled by overzealous creativity, I "overpainted" it and it lost a signifigant ammount of its charm.

shrug-

your pal,

loosey to the fur.

I thought of using them but with the 150 watt bulbs I turn the temp strip upside down so that the black side wont make it seem hotter and it is 88-93 or so at the top which is perfect. If I use the 100 watts I dont hink it would be hot enough.
Well I figured the regular halogen lights are no better than the lights sold for more money since they say "for reptiles" on them. The UV is the important issue and from now on I will just buy the appropriate wattage bulb from hmoe depot ect for the heat source. See now I know the UV tubes have different glass then normal to allow the UV to escape for reptile use and there is no getting around that buy buying any ordinary fluorescent tube.

Actually you were right. I measuerd the temps again this AM and with those aquarium strip thermometers turned upside down (so the black surface doesnt reflect the heat and make it seem hotter) the temps were above 103 with the 150 watt bulb. I tried the new 100 watts and now the temps are in the low 90's so I am going to use those for now. Maybe in winter time when it is colder I will make use of the 150 watts and see if they are necessary to keep higher temps then this time of year.

Those strip thermometers can be 20 degrees off either way at any given time. You can pick up a nice digital thermometer for around $10 at Lowes or Home Depot, you'll get a much more accurate reading with a digital.

On a related note, the bulbs you buy at home depot or lowes are the same bulbs. They are just packaged for reptiles as other have told you. But if you check, the prices will be considerably less than the reptile branded ones. Just for future purchase info.
