In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Has anyone ever heard of or dealt with a

I am thinking of buying from a company called Western Herpetological Research Institute or WHRI owned and run buy a person named Guy Clark.  I am not at all familiar with them and was wondering if someone here may have had some dealings with them or know of someone who has.  I will appreciate you responses on this. Thanks. By the way I almost forgot to mention that they are in California.

Hi Gary,

I purchased some B.C. Amarili from Guy a while back and was very happy with the quality of the animals. I DID buy at a show so I was able to see the animals first, but having been satisfied with my purchase, I would not hesitate to buy from WHRI over the net in the future.

Good luck, I think you will be happy with the results.

Thanks Tom,

That is what I am considering buying from him, but I emailed him with questions concerning the newborn Amarili, and didn't like the response I got.  I read the post on Kingsnake.com in the boa section and it says that they are for sale for $350, but in his response he says that they are starting at $350.  I emailed him back wondering if maybe he was referring to another clutch possibly.  If he is posting one price and actually only selling the crappy ones at the posted price, that seems a little shady to me, or am I wrong here ?  The post says they are $350 each not starting at that price, so then when you email him asking about them he tells you they start at that price, it almost seems like one of those used car adds where I believe the term is " Bait and Switch ".
I am going to wait for a reply before I get excited about it either way.

As a fellow vendor at many I.R.B.A. shows, I have seen Guy Clark over the years and he was always the consumate professional and always had clean , well  documented snakes for sale. I like nice snakes and I herald the boon of small breeders whose focus is on quality, not quantity. Guy Clark definetly fits in this group.

                                    Sincerely,

Thanks Fred,

He emailed me back and said that most are $350, but I have to decide if I feel comfortable with the way things are happening.  I am a firm believer in quality not quantity as well and am very picky about anything that comes in my collection to used for future breeding projects.  Sometimes it is the little things like this that stick in my craw though that keeps me from buying something.  The fact that you and Tom both witness his quality make me feel a bit better though.  Maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to him not posting it right in the first place, and maybe I am being too critical.

Remember, for many breeders they have family and jobs and enjoy this as a hobby and a nice way to make friends.  I have my head in the clouds 90% of the time and while it's not a reflection of the quality I have I'm sure it's cost me many sales.

I just did a deal with Shannon Hiatt (EXCELLENT PERSON) and was thinking about not doing it as I had to put myself out there fairly far and trust is word.  I asked for a deposit and he said "my word is bond" something I try to live by.  I then asked if he could give me a reference of a person we both know and he was able to offer one I take highly.  That was all I needed and the deal turned out to go much better then I would have thought.

Point being, don't be scared to ask, I offer many to people who don't know me.

Good luck,
Adam Block

gary

were you perhaps dealing with his son drake? he is alot younger and not as experienced as his father guy.
drake runs alot of the internet sales for his father and it could be a blooper sort of thing...

Well the emails were not signed but at the top it said " Gclark " so I am not sure if it was his son or him for sure.  I really understand the whole job/breeder situation because thats my story, at least until the business makes more than my job ( hoefully very soon !!! ).  I guess I am like everyone else when it comes to dealing with someone new over the internet.  And Adam I am the same way ... My word is my bond but I have learned ( the hard way ) that there are a lot of people out there who don't follow the same creed as I do, and for that reason and others I am thankful for the BOI.  I don't want to judge this guy unfairly over what may be a simple mistake by the person who posted the add, and wind up not getting the animal I want, but at the same time I won't stand for any games either.  Thanks again for the responses on this guys ( and gals ...LOL )

I just wanted to add that I bought a trio of Black Milksnakes from Guy last year and everything about the deal was great. I bought these snakes sight unseen, but with black milks it doesn't really matter since they're going to turn black anyway. However, I received big healthy babies that were already a few months old.  On top of this, Guy has answered a multitude of questions from me.  I would not hesitate buying something from Guy again in the future.

Gary,
You should have complete confidence with Guy. He's 100% stand up and has spectacular quality. I have never gotten a snake from guy that refused to eat, or had any problems at all, and I have bought A LOT of snakes from Guy.

I can also say that without question, Guy Clark has one of the biggest damn female Dumerils boas that has ever tipped the scales on planet earth! Guy, that thing is a TOAD!!!

Gary, have no worries, Guy is one of the good ones.
