Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Has anyone had problems with crickets and superworms from Hamburg show?

I bought 1000 crickets and 1000 superworms from a vendor at the hamburg show this weekend and after feeding my daughters 3 bearded dragons on Sunday now 2 died today!!!!

She has had the beardeds for over 6 months and have been doing great. They weren't growing fast since we would get crickets from the pet store 2 times a week. So I figured I'm at the show I should stock up. And in a matter of 2 days 2 of them have dropped dead. Now I'm not blaming the crickets or superworms but that is the only thing that has changed in the last 6 months.

Has anyone else had any problems like this??

Thanks,
Joe

PS: Does anyone have any "cheap" beardeds for sale? I need to replace them, my daughter is freaking out.

Did you feed the beardies that died a ton of crickets at once?

The reason I ask this is because I got two beardies from a guy who wasn't taking care of them. They were still the same size, around 5", as they were when he bought them 3 months before. He wasn't feeding them hardly at all. When I got them, they were starved. So I fed them all the crix they could eat. Guess what, they both died the very next day. The only thing I could figure was I overfed starved animals.

Sorry to hear you lost the dragons. It seems more than coincidence that two died right after you switched suppliers. I would love to hear what a vet has to say. Did you know that its just as easy to overdose and kill an animal with vitamin gut loaded prey as it is to keep them deficient of it. Shock followed by death.

Was Flukers at the Hamburg show?

Could this be why the emaciated dragons I overfed died the next day after I gave them free choice of how many crix to eat? I gut load my crix with veggies.

i bought some as well..

I bought 4,000 crix and 1,000 supers off of flukers at the hamburg show as well but i didnt loose any thing from feeding them to my animals. I also bought some of thier gut load and crix water (gel) whatever its called and i still have 3,000 crix left in the tub now.
I do know a lady that comes in the store who went on vacation for three weeks and didnt have anyone feed her animals while she was away and when she got back she threw a huge anount of crix in with them figuring they needed the extra food and she lost half of her bearded dragons in less then three days. When she brought a few by the store they were "blown up" or "swollen" but i was unsure whether this was from the over eating or impaction from to much food. I talked to my vet and he said that if the beardies dont get a ample supply of water when they eat a lot of dusted crix they dehydrate and die quickly because the calcium powder sucks up the water in thier bodies and shuts them down.

Thanks everyone for your replies, let me ad some more info to my story. The beardeds were feed greens most of the time and the pet store crickets lasted 1-2 day per "order". We only dusted our crickets 1 a week, And this wasn't one of those days.

Now I'm not saying it was or wasn't the food that I got at the show, rather that it was the only change in the norm. The only thing I can think of is that sometimes my daughter would forget to change the water. They never wen't without water for more than say 8-10 hours at a time. And that was every now and then.

I just found it very strange that 2 died within 6 hours of each other and the only thing that changed was the newly aquired food items.

I hope this provides more info for the die hard bearded keepers..

Thanks again,
Joe Malinowski

Hamburg crickets

I purchased 3000 crix at the show, and haven't seen any problems yet. Where was the vendor that you bought them from located (in relation to the show entrance)? Mine were from the vendor located immediatly to the left of the entrance, in front of the men's room. All they sold were feeders, not sure the name of the vendor.

It should be noted that the original poster has not identified the feeders in question as coming from Kimodo Reptiles. Would hate for someone "skimming" the posts to think this thread is about Komodo's feeders when that is not what has been stated.

Hi, Yes that was the vendor I got them from. I must repeat I'm not blaming these folks. I'm just inquiring if anyone else has had any problems.

Thanks,
Joe

PS: I checked out the crickets last night and their all alive and doing fine. So I'm really stumped now.

Hi Joe,
I also purchased from them Saturday, and have not had any problems. I think it may be something else that caused the problem....

I too bought 2,000 Crix from the same vender, and no problem so far. My two dragons ate it first thing the crix got home, and they are still alive as of this morning.
Sorry about your dragons.
I know how it feels to be stumped on something that went wrong out of no where.
