Hi I asked on a few other forums, no one seems to know. Can a leo get pregnant at 4 months old? How much of a risk is there for egg binding if they can.

Okay, i wasn't sure, there is someone on another forum that thinks her 4 months old leo is gravid and i told her to watch her very carefully.

I am not really a gecko person, but i understand that it is more about size than age. I think the cut off point is around 35-40 grams. Much smaller than that and she probably won't have the reserve to carry her eggs to term and could resorb them or eggbind ect. Hopefully one of the gecko folks will see this soon and clear it up for sure.

Yeah, ummm, no. See at 4 months I doubt very highly that she is for one, 50g, which seems to be the female cut off point. Unless shes a supergiant, which even then, I still doubt shes sexually mature enough to carry eggs.

When I stated a female was 4 months old I didn't by any means state that she was a top form and ready to breed. I took it from Ron as she was from his giant lien and was never introduced to a male just laid infertile eggs, my point was just thats its possible.

I imagine it is possible, but it can't possibly be a good thing. That leo is way too young to be laying eggs and I imagine it will be very hard on her if she is gravid. In fact, she will more than likely become eggbound at such a young age. You should tell this person that they should not be keeping such a young gecko with the opposite sex. Poor thing . . .

i doubt that the baby was gravid, she swore she was. i told her to take her to the vet after my last post. She said she took her back to the petstore to see the "reptile specialist" there and he said that she is really healthy and gravid and she shouldn't have any problems laying the eggs. i dont know what to tell her though. thats why i sperated my 5 onth old male and female. I didn't want this problem. She said she also has no idea how much she weighs but if shes only 4 months old thats just so small if its just a normal Leo.

It's possible to mate them very young. The main reasons we suggest you dont are:
1. Detrimental long term effects from the stress of creating eggs (HUGE energy output) at an age when the organs and bones haven't fully developed.
2. Increased risk of egg binding.
3. Increased rate of infertile eggs.
I usually incubate for all females. If I find a male I separate them out as soon as I see it's male.

I just read her last post from this morning, She said it was her mistake she took her in to be looked at. She is either 6, 7 or 8 months old. Still poses a health threat. It sounds kind of fishy to me. I am stating to think its not pregnant at all. If it isn't I just dont understand why people come on to forums with problems they dont even have and start a bunch of unwanted drama. Its starting to really sound like she isn't pregnant at all. OOOhhh that makes me mad when people do that.

The simple and direct answer is YES. As far as egg binding risk goes, it is a risk with any female leo that becomes gravid and weighs less than 45 grams and becomes gravid, and the risk increases the smaller they are.
