In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

i had my leo for almost a year and about 1 month ago i decided to give him a treat so i fed him wax worms....then next feeding time he didnt take his crickets...this has been going on for a while now and i dont know wat to do. he still dosnt take crickets...to keep him healthy i put calcium on the wax worms...sometimes i dont feed him for about 4 days and see if he is hungry enough to get back to eating crickets...i love this animal and i dont no wat to do..is there anything that i can feed him that keeps him healthy?
thanks

You could get a bunch of crickets and drop them in with the waxworms, so they get the waxworm 'smell' to them. Then try feeding the crickets and tricking the leo. Have no idea if that will work..but I read somewhere that somebody did that. Somebody else may have a better idea though.

Hmmm

Have you tried meal worms, or super worms? Also maybe hand feeding? From what I hear about waxies they are very addicting and not very nutritious. Maybe you need to just put a bunch of meal worms in a bowl for him and keep count of them to see if he eats them at night. Don't know if it will work but that's what I would try.

silkworms

Silkworms. They are much more nutritious then crickets. They happily sit where you put them and wait to be eaten. Mine loves them and eats more food now.
Or try ripping the ass off a mealworm and putting the goo on the leo lips. It sounds stupid but its worked for me and some other people. I guess it makes them realize that mealworms are yummy inside.

I Would switch to mealies, now would be the perfect time! Get rid of those crickets....YUCK!!!
It may take awhile but, try Tim's idea, when you get them switched you will be much better off. I count out the mealies that the different geckos get each time I feed them. Some of my older Breeders don't eat much so they get less, some babies eat twenty mealies every two days so I keep them coming. But the great thing is you can put them in a little glass container or even a lid and they stay right there ready to be eaten and not running all over the place stressing the geckos! Raising mealies is way to easy!!!! Just throw the "aliens" into there own rubbermaid box, filled with grains, cereal etc.... and they will morph into beetles, which will lay eggs and grow into various sized mealies. I have several containers in different stages. The one Im currently using has been supplying me for at least two months and there are still thousands in there with no end in sight at this time! I place the container outside (where it is colder) to slow there Metamorphose after every other feeding. Good luck!

How warm do the mealworms need to be so they don't die? I tried keeping them at room temperature (about 72 degrees), they died, so I put them at 80 degrees, they died. I keep them in a container with about 3/4 of an inch of gutload.

What am I doing wrong?

HMMMMMMM

Well! They need to be kept somewhat warm to grow and feed! I keep mine on the floor of my herp room, which is kept at 72 degrees +/- and the floor is cooler! I also every other day/or so put them outside on the porch to keep them from morphing to fast. Let me check right now the temp........it's 41 degrees now 9:25 am and im sure it got down to close to freezing last night! SO! that presents a problem as I want them to cool down but I don't want to freeze them...So I will probably put them in a bedroom that we are not using where it is pretty cool (60's). But every other day/or so I put them back in the herp room to feed and grow! I don't do anything special, other than I slice up potatoes, grapes, etc.... for moisture, and there living in pure ground up grains, bran, etc.... that i bought six months ago at a store that has those bulk bins! Keep trying, don't let it get wet or moist in there as mold is a killer!
Good luck! OH and "Four more years" LOL

Thanks Overton, I will keep trying. I am really tired of spending $40 a week for feeders, gets too expensive. Do you kow if raising superworms is the same as mealies? I am having no luck with them either.... :(

Oh....and yes.....4 more years!!

OH!...and my substrate is about 4 to 5 inches thick!
Supers are slower (to me) to get going. you have to select a worm put it in a small place film canister or pill (perscription) container etc... and set them aside. Check them after a week or two and when the morph throw them in there own container with all the grain and stuff, and let them morph again into beetles, which will lay eggs and start the cycle all over again!

Do you take the bettles out after awhile? I have had beetles for about 2-3 weeks now but do not see any mealies yet. i have a piece of porous wood in there for them and it is covered with tiny white dots, are those eggs or poops? I feed them apple, broccli, carrots, and potatoes. I do not have very much substrate in there right now as I wanted to be able to find the mealies when they arrive, then I planned on adding more. I just keep mine in wheat middlins(sp). The rest of the mealies that are left I just put in the refigerator when I want to slow down thier metamorphasis. And I have just started feeding the aliens to the leos if I get too many.

Sable, are those supers?
The supers will lay on cardboard or bark and those would be eggs. When they "arrive" they are extremly small so basically you'll have to wait till they get bigger anyway. just let them grow up in there. I remove the bettles only after they die, I just let them live out there life laying eggs and pick out the dead one's. My bin is way too big to put in the refig, also my wife would kill me! My leo's won't touch a alien with a ten foot pole!

Nope

Not supers just the normal meal worms. I have about 20-30 beetles in a plastic shoe box size bin. How many beetles do you think a bin that size can handle? I just made up a new bin and have tranfered my alien dish into it, and will then have two beetle bins. Then when all these bettles die off I can combine the two mealie bins and start another beetle bin. Every time I take my mealie bin (also a plastic shoe box) out of the fridge for a day to let them fed, I get about 20 more aliens. I just dropped the aliens in the mealie bowl and mine came right over and started feeding on them. I need to get some more supers and then do that whole film canister thing with them but I have not yet. I thought I read that the beetles might eat the baby meal worms. .Argh, there is just so much info out there it is hatd to determine what is right and what is not. Guess that is where experience comes in. I am thinking of starting a roach colony too. I am not having any luck raising crix. I don't get any babies from the dirt like I am supposed to. I kept the dirt moist for about a month and nothing. I would hope the roaches would be easier.

Hmmmmm...Im not sure how many? I just keep throwing them in and after I think there is about 50 million eggs/babies I start a new bin and set the older one aside to let the eggs hatch and grow.
Crickets can be a pain, I used to raise them, and found that they (i think the males) were eating the eggs so I cut a fine screen to fit over the sandwich box that I used for them to lay eggs, and that prevented them from getting to the eggs but the females could still lay "thru" the screen. Anyway I got rid of crickets and have Lobsters which you really don't have to do anything the multiply like........like roaches!!!:D
