I put this together for Serp to compare nose bands of Stripes vs Motleys and thought I'd post it here. Their about to have their 1st sheds shortly, so they're not at their prettiest. :)

forgive my ignorance, but what's the difference? With the exception of the 3rd photo, they all look like pretty much the same nose band (and that isn't much different).

Or is the secret to this comparison actually having the different ones to compare to?
(I have NO knowledge of cornsnake morphs)

Ya, it's a comparison thang. ;) There seems to be a trend with stripes that the "eye band" is significantly thinner. I'm sure there will be some variation and the inevitable "tweeners" will pop up, but I'm still very curious to see how consistent the trend is.

In addition to motley there's another variant, cubed, that seems to be either another allele at this locus, or a result of selective breeding. One of the things this might help with is identifying "cubed" specimens. :) Also if it helps us make more sense of how stripe acts, it could lead to better predictions about what it might do in combinations with other genes, and what variations a breeder might be able to select for.
