In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Heather Bishop - If we pick the snake up from the hub we will kill it...intentionally

I have debit card at 14. And it’s under my parents account though. Honestly, my parents have to know about purchases before I make them. Especially a 265 dollar purchase. Even as a teenager I would never make a purchase to endanger an animal. My parents hate snakes as well which means I have to wait till I’m out of the house. Also my father would not step and clean up my mess. Thanks for warning us. Good Luck!! Happy Holidays!

A just punishment

Had the snake died, that would have tragic. The only recourse would be to sue her for the shipping, and whatever expenses you can tack on. Let her parents become responsible for their children's action.

Thats the only way these people are going to learn. Either through the loss of their own folly, or there parents burgeoning the obligation. I would certainly contact the parents and inform them that they will be sued.

There was no 'father', unless they were equally illiterate, as both had the same, surprisingly poor spelling. Not to mention, the 'father's' emails were written, grammatically, much like that of a teenager.

Come off it, no one's suing anyone for $140. Anyone who thinks that's a good idea has never looked into what it takes to sue someone before.

I also question that the "father" is contacting you. It's entirely possible that she and her father have the same phone, but I noticed that communications from both are both stamped in the same way at the bottom "sent from my Galaxy note 8".

Heather, don't plan on buying from anyone who checks the BOI before completing transactions. You are one to avoid for sure.

Matt, you seem like a good guy and I'm sorry this buyer screwed you over, and put the animal's life at risk. Thanks for letting us all know.

If she really is 16 then I was under the impression that the father took her phone and was texting from the same number. Also, if she is truly 16 then she has already sullied her name in the community due to bad teenager decisions and that would be a shame.

There's really no telling.

Based on the buyer's Facebook profile (posted in a different feedback forum on Facebook) she is attending high school.

As a high school teacher, I can definitely see this being legitimately her father. Parents and students share a surprising amount of similarity in their poor grammar/spelling skills. Definitely a name to avoid, at least for a few years.

It's a shame you can't trust buyers to follow your TOS and that there is no legal protection for online sellers potentially accidentally selling to minors like in this case. For a brick and mortar shop, you can check ID immediately, but online things get a little more hazy. Does anyone have any ways they avoid/prevent these types of situations?

Interesting analysis John,

As a breeder your right. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. But,sometimes it rolls.Very seldom but sometimes it does,

It's the Ye Old Saying You'll never get a Race Horse from breeding it to a Nag.You'll only get a Better Nag..

My daughter has excellent spelling and grammer. She corrects me all the time!!!
She was lucky got the best sides of DNA from her mother and myself.Rare.She is Lucky
because both sides of the Family are How do I say in Medical terms??Nuts!!!

However, being a School teacher does give you insight that only you and your colleagues
would know.Very Interesting!!!

All of the advice is good to a point. The problem being,Legal Action is not worth this unless you are trying to prove a point. If you wish to throw away money and time and have enough of both to do so.Then Yes,Jerry T. is right.

Geeze Jerrey never let me get on the Bad side of you!!!

These things happen.I have been doing this for 35 years and dealing with the public is hard period regardless of your business.

Move on and there will be another one and another.Sorry,us Americans have become an arrogant society. When your a seller some believe you to be their complete servant. These are the same people that Scream at the Kid at Mcdonalds for forgetting their french fries.
Good MOvie Called Falling Down. It's an old one with Michael Douglass but it runs the point home.

Very Best to all for the Holidays!!!

We appreciate all the support and kind words. Although in a perfect world it would be nice to make her have to at least pay the shipping we ate but in our minds we already wrote that off as soon as square took the money from us for the investigation. Just written off as cost of doing business and nothing we can do about it other than post the info and hopefully prevent her from wasting any other breeders time or money. Luckily we had to do a lot of business over the years before we encountered something this crazy! Again, thank you everybody for the support and hope you all have a happy holiday as well!

Do not let the fact that Square took your money stop you from appealing, banks nearly ALWAYS side with their customer at the start.
I had a situation with an ebay sale where they claimed never received and their bank claimed the money back from their paypal payment.
Fortunately I had tracking info AND it had been signed for on delivery so I filed an appeal presenting my evidence and the decision was overturned and my monies were rightfully returned.

Present your bank with all of the very well documented evidence you have posted here and there is a good chance you could get it all back, all you have to lose is a few minutes of your time.

Credit card company's give credit cards to people under 18?? I think not.

I work in credit cards and technically a minor cannot apply for a credit card, but you can add anyone as an authorized user, even if they are a minor. So she's either lying or she's an authorized user.

So, here's a little bit of disputes insight. With the bank, most of the time it's done through Visa or MasterCard, they do ultimately make the decision, not the actual bank (Visa and MC work for both since they get paid from merchants). Even if it's Amex or Discover, same deal, they are working for both sides, so they have equal share in wanting to please both. Now, with Square, I'm not sure how they do it cause they should be sending you the dispute paperwork and you have 45 days to respond and present your side. Might be something to contact the disputes area at that actual bank or check how Square will process the paperwork.

The fact of the matter is Mr. Internet, thats why we have small claim ct. Why should the shipper loose anything. As indicated if the snake perished and this whole ordeal turns out to be a nothing other than a scam some one is responsible ! The purpose here is if in fact this was an under aged person who uses a credit card not belonging to them, then the parents or whoevers name is on that card will have to deal with it, as well as their dumb child. It could have been substantially more than $ 140.00 , then what would you say Mr Internet... Come off it !

An authorized user will make both responsible. Even though the user may be underage, any negative information if there is a ss # for that underaged person will NOT be forgotton when they are old enough to get there own card. The parent when giving authorization is automatically liable for whatever the authorized user charges...

Not a good idea. Originally intended as an easy method when dealing with young adults going to college and needing to purchase school related materials including eating, etc. The bill comes to Daddy, and if he is delinquent, in the end somewhere it will reflect on the user as well !!!!!

In todays world of credit cards, many banks insist that being an authorized user, requires them to be included on the checking account. I dont know if all banks require this, but because of all the credit card fraud, this makes it more difficult to use a card as an under aged person unless there is a greater liablity to attach the card holders checking account because of potential use of unauthorized purchases including and not limited to ATM withdrawals . Allot has changed, so the answer is to check these things out carefully .

I think under the circumstances, and for $140, Mr. Internet is correct. Voidable underage purchases can be complex and we do not have all the facts here. Add to that the filing fee, and the fee to properly notify the defendant, in a case where there may not be an automatic win, and suits for such small amounts can be a questionable choice. And of course even if there is a win, which is not guaranteed, further legal action with additional costs may be required to actually attempt to collect, and that attempt is not guaranteed successful either.

I work in credit cards and I don’t know any banks that require this. Hell, I don’t know any banks that require you to have a checking account to have a credit card with them. Even the credit union that I’m apart of only requires you to have a savings account to be a member, but they don’t require you to have a checking and they don’t require the AU to be on that account. What bank is this that has this requirement?
