In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Heather Stotz- Sandstone Corns

Small town is a relative term. I live in a town of 1800 in rural Texas. Overnight delivery by 10:30 is a dream not a reality!!!! I have even had overnight deliveries take two days to get here. And this time of year all bets are off! I don't order things from mid-October to the beginning of February because of the unreliability of the weather and the carriers (there are a few professionals that I might try to get something from but you can count them on one hand). In small towns there isn't the luxury to do things the way they can be done in the "big city". But that means the person has to be on top of everything if they are going to operate. Hopefully Heather has learned and will correct the situation. Then she can work at becoming perfect like everyone else here. Glad my job operates with the concept of grace. Cheers!!!!!!!

Heather ...

For your convenience, here are two other FedEx Authorized ShipCenters,
both less than 12 miles from your home address, just a straight shot down 516. It looks like they're closer than the one you referenced in your first post (post #2 of this thread) you indicated was 30-45 minutes away.
Maybe you'll have better luck with them:

another Zip & Ship
3501 E Main St #G
Farmington, NM 87402
505-326-6111

The Mail Room & Copy Center
2844 E Main St

I can sympathize Pat. I'm right in the middle of the Navajo Indian reservation, so for the kids who live WAY out in the middle of nowhere they have to live in dorms when they are in kindergarten all the way up. And the DORMS are over an hour away from the school! I'm 3 hours from the only freeway in the state. There is a fairly large town about 30 minutes away, but Aztec, well, we are pretty small! (no walmart even lol). Its kinda a mix of the old time farmers and then the oil workers out here. My ferrets are referred to as "varmits" and the snakes, well- I've been told they'd look good as boots or a belt. And good gosh! I have mice in my freezer! You would think I had a third eye. People uh, don't do that around here. I've actually been asked by some of the school districts to bring my pets in as I'm the closest thing to a zoo around here. The beardies were a big hit this year. Though the kids were dissapointed my 'dragons' didn't have wings. (preschool).

Thanks very much, but do they accept "dangerous" goods? I can only ship from one that accepts dangerous goods - ie snakes which would be...

FedEx staffed
Federal Express
1514 W Main St
Farmington, NM 87401
(800) 463-3339
View details, directions & map

Or

FedEx staffed
Federal Express
115 Bodo Dr
Durango, CO 81303
(800) 463-3339
View details, directions & map

(thanks for the idea though- i looked them up on teh website) Farmington is about 30 mintues away from where I am, Durango is about an hour. Thanks though!

Heather I will give you this much. Unlike other people whom certain member's are having problems with. From the start you have responded to questions, and are still involved in this thread. Everyone makes mistakes and you sure seem to be doing the best of your ability to make that mistake right. I think you are headed in the right direction with your business and I wish you the best of luck.

Heather, I'm actually OK with what I have now.. I don't need a refund of the shipping (the snake was 150 shipped, so shipping wasn't an extra charge for me) and I don't feel I'm in a situation that needs a freebie on your animals for 08. It's a shame you still don't seem to 'get it' as far as what you've done here. You seem to think a proper excuse is the same as an apology. No worries though, I didn't post this to 'get something' from you, it just seems to be the best way to insure it doesn't happen again to someone else.

Ok, I am just gonna jump in here because I don't agree with the "I was emotionally unable to function" implication. As a woman myself with all the crippling emotions that come with the species...I got this:

You were concerned about your own animal at the expense of other people's animals. It's good that it all ended well, but what if it hadn't? I don't have a lot of sympathy for a female that uses her emotions and lack of control of them as an excuse to get away with disrespecting other people's time and animals.

It's good that you want to make it right. :yesnod: But a woman (you are the age of consent) that wants to have her own business needs to understand that she has chosen a world where emotions, bodily functions and personal time have to take the back seat to handling business.

I only mentioned that as someone had said something about not believing the ferret died or had cancer or something.
GENERALLY I'm on the ball and good to go, I'm only not good when on of my pets die. I should put that in my terms of service maybe. Honestly if it were my grandmother, cousin, aunt- I would mail that day and be able to do the tracking numbers. Just not my pets.
I'm glad to do what I can to make the person who buys from me happy. I'm glad he liked the snake as well. He is also still welcome to a free snake from my 08 pairings.

It was this quote that got me. You're not good if a pet dies, but it's OK if it's a close family member? That right there makes me think something isn't right.

Ah, I understood that. All "close" family members aren't exactly close. Every family isn't a facsimile of a Brady Bunch or Cosby unit.

Good post, Deborah

Absolutely. :iagree:

And it doesn't just apply to a woman running her own business. It applies to a woman running her own life and any career. In real life, a woman simply cannot use emotional issues as a crutch to avoid responsibility or excuse getting a job done, and still expect to be taken seriously and intelligently.
Heather is still young, so hopefully will learn quickly.

I know what you mean Deborah. I'm not exactly close to a lot of my own family, but if i can deal with customers when a family member passes, then i can do it when one of my snakes die too. That's a poor excuse, IMO.

:iagree: No doubt...I wasn't disagreeing with you..just putting in another perspective (aside from business-wise.) :)

I know that you weren't disagreeing, Deborah. I just wanted to make my point a bit clearer. I think that your first post was spot on, BTW. :)

Laura-

"Cala's Corns guarantees overnight delivery through FedEx. One stipulation regarding this policy is that someone must be there to sign for the delivery on the first attempt. If the first delivery attempt fails, this guarantee is voided, NO exceptions! Also, if you have a 'signature waiver' on file with FedEx, this will void your live arrival guarantee. Any problems associated with shipping are to be directed to Cala's Corns only. Please DO NOT contact FedEx about late delivery or DOA animals. Cala's Corns bears the sole responsibility of the live animal guarantee. Shipping fees will vary and I do not believe in charging a flat fee. Please inquire about shipping charges to your area before purchasing. The charges will normally run between $40 and $60, depending on location. Please bear in mind that this is a per box charge, and not per snake. That being said, many animals can fit into the same box. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to ask. If you can not be at your residence to accept your animal(s), most FedEx locations will allow packages to be held at that location. I feel this is safer than shipping to a residential address and would suggest choosing that option whenever possible. Additionally, all shipments that are held at the Fedex location are guaranteed for that day ONLY. If you fail to pick the box up on that day, my guarantee is voided. I'm sorry to do this, but I cannot be responsible for your delay in picking the package up."

Do you think that this means I don't have a waiver to ship snakes through FedEx? I can assure you that I in fact do. I'm not saying that Heather wasn't in the wrong---whether intentional or not---and I'm assuming it was not intentional, but you cannot say that just because her terms read that way she doesn't have a FedEx account setup.

The reason for asking customers NOT to contact FedEx is simply because the people who work the 800 number are idiots. 99.9% of them have no idea FedEx allows the shipping of live animals (specifically snakes) and will argue with you when it is brought up. Also, I can better handle a shipping situation since I am an account holder and will not be paranoid over a lost or delayed shipment. Asking the customer not to call is for the betterment of the business---the last thing we need as an industry is to have freaking out people calling FedEx screaming about missed packages and stuff---we don't need FedEx dropping the live animal exception because they're gotten crap about it.
Boy does your guarantee sound great. For you that is. You even got a box fee, shipping fee any other hidden costs you would like to pass on the the buyer. You probably even force the buyer to pay the 3% paypal fee too. I am so glad you showed your true colors so I now no I don't to deal with you. You and your hidden costs are what makes us all look bad

Michael, his TOS doesn't state a box charge or any other fee. If he wanted he could but it doesn't.

He merely states in his TOS that each box sent out is represented by the shipping fee.

If he can fit 10 snakes in the box it is still just one charge for shipping. Not a shipping charge for each of the ten snakes.

Example 1 snake plus $60 shipping
10 snakes still $60 shipping if they fit in the same box.

I actually thought that my offer of a 15% discount if you purchase 5 of more snakes is pretty good. (Unless I'm running some kind of other deal). The reason I made it a flat fee is because since I'M rural *I* have to pay more for shipping. Sometimes up to $80. Since the buyer isn't going to like paying that much shipping, I just go a flat rate of $60 and if its more I eat the rest. Sometimes, I admit its less- I think the lowest its been is $55, somewhere in there. Trust me, I'm not making a profit on shipping! I'm doing the flat rate because when someone wants the exact shipping and I tell them 80 bucks, I get an arguement about 'well it wasn't that much last time and that was all the way from X". So I put $60 and leave it at that so at least people will think about buying from me, and not think I'm gouging on shipping.

Um, actually that isn't my guarantee. That's Cala's Corns. Nice guy, I've bought from him. I think you are kind of out for blood and aren't really looking at the facts. You are yelling at someone who isn't even involved here. Now, having said that if you would like to look at MY guarantee and then yell at me based off of the FACTS, be my guest. Take a peek, sandstonecorns.com
But at least be criticizing MY guarantee, not someone else's, OK?

Get a clue. Lots of sellers charge a SINGLE flat fee for ALL shipping. When I noticed that most of the boxes I had going out were between $50 and $60, I decided I would just charge a flat rate of $55. On some orders I make an extra buck or two and on some orders I lose. A lot of times I just make it even easier on myself by including the shipping in the price. As long as the buyer knows and accepts the total cost of the transaction prior to committing to the transaction, who cares? Joe has sent out quite a few FREE snakes in his orders just because that's the kind of GOOD GUY he is. I'm glad YOU'VE shown YOUR true colors. I wouldn't want to deal with a cheapskate nitpicker like you.

That's better.

And just to make this clear- I do profoundly apoligize for MY mistake. I take full blame for not doing what I should have done. I should have waited until I felt better to get the snakes off (probably until after christmas) and personally sent them out. However, once I found the mistake, I should have contacted both parties straight away to let them know what was up, regardless of how I felt. I'm very sorry for this and have refunded Tom the difference in shipping fees and Becky is getting a free snake on me after christmas. I hope this in some small way makes up for it.
Happy Holidays.
