    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I want to build a cage using wood. The under the tank heaters I've seen say they don't work with wood. What can I use besides a heat lamp?

what kind of heater were you looking to use? how thick is the wood you are going to use ? i use flex under all mine and have no problems they all work fine

I don't have atyp e of heater in mind. I'm looking for suggestions. As for the thickness of the wood I'm not quite sure yet. I haven't begun designing it yet because I want to make sure that heating won't be a problem.

what are you making it for? geckos? well i cant comment on there needs since i have none ,but i do have wood enclosures if you go ahead and use flex tape it will be fine i have it under various thicknesses everything from tile board to 1/4 inch plywood to 3/4 melamine and all heat fine for the size you will need ,well that will be determined when you know how big the enclosure will be ,hope that helped if you have any more questions feel free to ask hopefully i can help

I don't know anything about flex tape. Does it burn out? Short? How long does it last? Will I need a false floor for it? Does it go on the inside or outside of the cage?

**Maybe if this has been discussed already you can link me to it.

well for does it burn out ,well im sure it will eventually ,how long it last ? wish i knew ,if you would like help with how to install it i can help you ,but i need to know what is your ideas on the size you want and stuff? all mine are outside the enclosure under the floor and as long as it is not a stack you building if it ever goes out it should be easy to change

Well most likely my cage will be about 48 x 24 x 24 but no smaller then 48 x 16 x 18

i make alot of mine out of 1x2 and tile board there for my snakes but im sure you can alter it to work for you

heres a 5x2x18 i made to give you a idea of what i mean

oh ok then i would say the flex watt tape would work just fine,since i know nothing about geckos and there heat i cant help with that ,but the flex does come in 3 inch and 11 inch wide i think 3 3 or 4 but sure about 11 and by however long you need on my 5 footer i have a 11 x 2 foot piece and keeps the heat on the hot spot high 80's probably can go higher but i have it on a dimmer to control the temp,you can pick up flex at MG reptiles among other places actually they might know better to what size you would need ,they can even do all the connecting for you so all you have to do is tape it to the bottom outside ,and plug it in ,wish i could be more helpfull but again i know nothing about geckos ,good luck and post some pictures when you build it ,and if you have any more question feel free to ask

Ceramic heat bulbs are an alternative

Used in concert with a thermostat, they can be quite useful, and they don't produce light.
