In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have an adult BTS that has escaped from its enclosure. This has happened before because I Have to make a new cover for but I purposely keep the door to that room closed so there is nowhere for it to go but under the couch. Unfortunately someone ELSE in the house decided to leave the door to that room open while she was in there for " 5 minutes " and then she heard some noise and realized the skink was out of the cage. While she claims she immediately closed the door, she isnt sure if the noise was from within or without the room and I have turned that room uspide down to no avail. I have searched the whole house and there arent too many options for it to go to since it was full grown. Outside its freezing plus the doors are always closed and there is no basement, only a small second floor with two rooms which I also checked. Any suggestions? I put out a plate with mashed bananas to see if it will come out and eat a little so at least I have an idea of where it is but other than that I'm at a loss.

Favorite hiding places of most reptiles are usually dark warm spots. Check behind refrigerator near compressor area or a dryer. One of our snakes worked his way deep up in a recliner once, had to take chair apart and throw away just to retrieve my hiding baby. Also time, give it a bit of time and keep your eyes open for movement. If you know their favorite food keep it out and sooner or later the tummy will take over... Good luck hope this helps.

Cramped - dark placed are a lizard's favorite hiding spot and most don't usually wonder to far from their enclosure.
Check bedroom closets, hall closets also. I have found many escapees in there. Also check dresser drawers. Amazingly they love those to.

Good luck!!

Put out a bowl of water, also set up a heat lamp with a piece of it's cage furnishing under it...a log or rock...the heat lamp itself may draw it. I caught my escaped ameiva that way and he was fast as lightning.

So I left out a plate of mashed ripened banana near his cage and the heat lamp but so far no luck. I checked every crevice and closet I could think of but no luck. I just cant fathom where he could be. Even if he found some way out of the house - which I cant see either as the front door is always kept closed - its pretty damn cold out, same for garage, so can't see why it would go there. I checked the warm, cramped spots like under the fridge, baseboards, washing machines and no sign - no disturbance of the ( nasty ) dust layers and spider webs. No sign of poop anywhere either. I even checked the two rooms and closets upstairs though I dont think it made it up the stairs only because I dont think ti could have climbed past the lip of each stair but who knows.

Do you have carpet or hardwood floors???

I only ask because if you have hardwood you can put flour all over the floor in a light dusting which will help make any movement VERY noticeable.

Just the giggle I needed for the nite. Eric I do hope You find your baby soon. Give it a bit of time and don't give up hope. Reptiles can amaze you and be looking for a way back into its cage before You know it. Keep us posted.

So I came home just now and decided to check on the plate of bananas I left in the hallway ( I left all the room and closet doors open this time ) and found it untouched so I was dismayed but then I spotted something out of the corner of my eye behind the couch and lo and behold it was the damned skink! I still have no clue where it was actually hiding though because I moved that couch out at least a dozen times, looked under it, took off all the cushions and checked under the baseboard and it was not there any of those times. The mysteries of life!

You would be surprised, like I was, at how they can wiggle up into furniture. Get into the springs and mechancis of a recliner and yet not get hurt and hide out for weeks. I do hope You caught him and loved him up nicely for giving you such a scare. :)

Yes you would be surprised. I had an 8 foot female red tail boa cram herself into a tiny night stand drawer. I don't know how she got in there but man.

Great you found it!!! Awesome to see that.

I know exactly what this is like. Haha. I have a baby female cali king, I havent had even had her for 6 months and she got out. The first time she was gone for two weeks, my sister found her in the cupboard when trying to cook spaghetti. She got out AGAIN. This time I don't even know how. She was gone for 3 weeks, I tore this house apart looking for her. With 3 ferrets, 4 large high prey dive dogs and a cat...her title changed to K.O. During those three week my family collected a bunch of crap to donate and I had a pile of 3 backpacks. First the back packs were in the closet for 4 days, then lost and shoved under the bed for 3 days, move next to the tv stand on the floor and used a seat for 7 days and the last week they were thrown about the house. I was about to throw them in the donation bag and I saw a zipper flick...guess who I found?
Her new name is B****.

I had a cornsnake escape. 7 months later I found him underneath my lawnmower in the garage with no physical problems. go figure Good for you!
