    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello,
I have a roughly 5 year old diamondback terrapin and a painted turtle. I noticed a fleshy/stringy material near the Diamondbacks vent today, but I did not see an injury site nor did it look like worms. I am calling the vet tomorrow, but wondered if anyone had any insight. I noticed the tank was slightly pinkish tinged today and was alarmed when I saw this unknown item at the bottom of the tank. They both are acting normal. Alert, eyes are clear, and a healthy appetite. Please help with any information on what could be a possible explanation. image.jpgimage.jpg
 
I could be incorrect because of the state of the tissue, but it appears that one of your animals is a male and the penis has died and detached.

It is most likely that the DBT everted his penis and the painted turtle bit the flesh. The result is what you see. Not much the vet needs to do. Possibly prophylactic antibiotics, but the blood vessels should have sealed by now and the amputated area should heal (but not regenerate) without intervention of any kind by yourself or the veterinarian. You will want to monitor things, of course. If behavior gets iffy, if the animal stops feeding for long, or if the swimming becomes impaired, I would say a rushed visit would then be wise.
