In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Okay I need some help here! In case you don't remember, I have a super rescued leo from a little over a year ago. ( Pics ) I've done a pretty good job with her, considering I figured she would have died days after I got her.

Anyway my problem is getting a humid hide for her. Considering how "deformed" she is, she can get all but her fingers free from her shed each time (but with fingers as twisted as they are it's no surprise) and normally I just soak her because she can't move so great. But I would really like to try to make a humid hide for her The problem with them is that the way she had to "walk" is like if we walked on our elbows. She can't crawl into a normal hide like the other leos. Her current hide (which is just the basic gladware container with a hole cut in the lid) she can crawl up onto the lid no problem, but she can't bend her body correctly to get under the lid.

So basically I'm looking for any suggestions for a hide for her. Hopefully no one has any leos that look anything like her or have any of the issues she has, but I would like some help. If nothing works, she'll keep getting her soaks and loosen the shed that way, but she likes to be independent, and the soaks are not her friend. Any help would be great. Thanks guys!!

Hide Box

You would need to get a little bit taller Tupperware container and cut a smooth hole in the side and just leave the lid on. you should make the door big enough to so it is easier getting in and out.

If the hole you cut is has rough edges you can file them down, you might also want to just put some duct tape around the edges of the door. When geckos shed they can hurt get hurt if you have sharp edges.

I hope this helps?

i use these sterilite containers from longs/ritetaid/payless (they keep changing names here) they are clear cubes with a fliptop lid that make for easy access. i cut a hole about 1.5 inches near the top of the laybox/moist hide (i actually used a carmex lip balm container for the perfect template) im sure my leos would find the entrance if on top (they usually climb on top anyways) but dont mind the evidence of digging around. for the medium i switched to moistened coconut fiber from vermiculite due to one of my leos eating verm. no problems. hope it helps.

oh forgot to mention i use a soldering iron to smooth the edges, i have one with an adjustable temp. thats perfect for plastic (holes, patches to tubs, whatever)

why not just use a tupperware container with a slot cut from the rim up so that the entrance is level to the tank substrate? And then use moist paper towels as the substrate, that way she should be able to just walk on in the same as a car pulling into a garage, and with the papertowel she wouldn't have to climb, dig or otherwise struggle over uneven ground?

Great job BTW

i think that the coc. fiber is great stuff and will probably hold moisture longer that paper towel without haveing to be too wet. but if you leo really does have a problem climbing into a hole probably only 1.5 inches up then maybe give it a step.

i also think they might like the soft moist substrate more than paper towel and they can dig if they want. seems more natural to me. anyways im a fan of the stuff for my moist hide/lay box.

I have a good suggestion for all humid hide boxes.A cookie dough container. They are usually a white and transparent if held up to light. When an incision is cut..the edge is very very smooth.Neither of my two breeding leos have problems. As for your delima..i assume if you cut a hole in the side instead of top..then put some extra substrate before the opening it should work out fine.Cheerio!
