In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi Bea,

I can't be of much help with your Chuckawalla, but what I do suggest is that you post your questions in more specific discussion forums (such as monitors discussion forum etc), as people who keep those species might respond faster than in this more general area.

I'm sure that one of the things you could do to show that you want to be a responsible owner (which you are starting out well with by posting the question in the first place ) is to look closely at the sizes the reptiles you are interested in will get to.

For example, many monitors really don't make good first pets - they aren't very handle-able, and they can get very large. What would you do with one when it reaches your self-imposed 5 foot limit?

I suggest that you make a list of what you want from your pet - such as:
Can it be handled?
Will it stay a size I can easily keep?
Will I just keep one animal or will I want to be able to add more to my collection?
How large an area do I have to house my pet?
Am I interested in breeding animals in future or do I just want a few that I will keep for a long time?

Then use the search forum on this site to search for information sheets on the animals you are interested in. That way you'll be able to compare the care that different animals need and make your decision on what is right for you.

Also, it does matter how old you are - if you might be leaving home for college in a year or two, maybe you shouldn't get something you either can't take with you, or that your mother wouldn't be happy to take care of for you.

Best of luck! :)

Hi Bea!

New reptiles can always be researched and looked into owning, but the sick one you have now needs your full attention. Focus on trying to get him healthy before thinking about adding any more.

As a mother, I know that I would shut down ANY attempts from my child if they asked for a new pet of any sort, while the current family member were sick.

Very good point.
