In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm hoping this is the right forum for this!

I found a little toad on a walk today who seems to have either been attacked by a cat or hit by a car. 2 broken legs and a ripped lip, swollen eye and possibly broken jaw. He's bleeding pretty badly from one arm.

He wont drink anything and is not moving unless I move him. Hes panic-peeing a lot and losing lots of liquids.

Are there any amphibian pain meds or numbing agents I can give this little guy? I am afraid hes not going to make it through the night, I would like for him to not hurt. Also- if anyone has any recommendations on care, I'm all ears.

Hes currently in a box with a little drinking bowl next to him. Keeping him in the garage so he will stay warm.

Thanks in advance! Gunna go check on the poor thing :(

Ishhh !!!

if it's in that bad of shape, broken legs and so on... not much can be done and he will most likely not make it much longer.. unless you have access to CO2 to put him to sleep.. the only other possible way would be in the freezer, as it's metabolism slows down because of the cold, it will sleep as it freezes.. it's not the ideal way but it would put it out of it's misery faster :( poor little toad, hope someone else has a better idea..

good luck.. the poor littel one was lucky you found it, unfotunately, it's most likely too far off to be saved.

Thats what I'm afraid of!
I called all 3 amphibian vets in the area. They ALL just so happen to be out of town at the same time... I'm getting really frustrated with them.

I went to check on the poor thing and there is just a huge pool of blood around him. I don't know where the cut is except his lip and arm... but they're not that big!

It really is bad... the poor sweet heart. I don't want him to hurt but I cant stomach putting him in a freezer... But if it gets too unbearable, I might have to. Thank you for that advice.

Do you think bringing him in the air conditioned area would slow down the bleeding?

Put him in a Tupperware or something like that and into the fridge for about an hour and then put into the freezer. You never want to put reptiles directly into the freezer, they need to be slowly cooled so they go into a catatonic state before into the freezer. I know it's hard, but do it and you will end it's suffering. I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

Thank you for the advice! I did not know that about the fridge!

I took him to a wild animal rescue and she's going to give him a warm bath and try to revive him but at the time I transported him, he was not responding. She has the co2 and said they will likely have to use it. Poor baby :(

Thank you all for the advice. I find a lot of frogs and toads so now I know what to do in the future if they're grievously injured.

Rip poor sweet toady.

CO2 is considered a humane way to dispatch small mammals; but reptiles have a different metabolism and respond differently to it...enough so that most would not recommend it. I can't say with certainty how it would work with amphibians; so I would likely err on the safe side and suggest skipping that option. (Yes, I know that information doesn't help the OP at this point; but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be posted.)

Froggyfinder, you have a PM

I've read nothing but bad things about using CO2 and also the freezer method. Sure, a freezer will do the job and you don't have to look at them, but you're basically killing them slowly over a 3+ hour period. Not very humane in my opinion.

The couple that I've had to put down I used a hammer to the head until it was completely mush. Gave me nightmares but it's the only way to guarantee they're not going to suffer. Put them in a pillowcase or something first so that you don't have to see it and it doesn't splatter. You can pith the brain as well but you have to be a pretty good aim, which I'm not.

Definitely not the easiest way to do it but by far the easiest/fastest for the animal.

Yes, either the vet (mine usually does a heart stick) or blunt force head trama is a fast way to do it, I personally thought that would be too much to ask of the OP so I didn't mention it.

I completely understand. Like I said, I had nightmares for a week. Not the most fun thing I've ever done but I had no choice.

Thank you for thinking of me.
My friends suggested running him over with my car, one even volunteered the hammer option. To me thats just not humane... because I don't know if the first blow will kill him, you know? It would break my heart to cause him more pain.

Also nightmares haha. Poor little guy. I don't have the stomach to do that. So really, thank you for thinking of me!
