    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

is it normal for hognose snakes to sneeze a lot when their just about to shed? i'm thinking that she had a bit of a sneeze fit because her face is about to shed, she has the fogged over eyes and what not. maybe the skin that's lifting is irritating her nose holes... i didn't notice any "bubbles" or wheezing, has anyone else noticed the same with their hognose? (or any snake for that matter?) i need some reassurance, i'm pretty concerned. :confused:

Tara,
I don't believe that I have ever witnessed a snake sneeze.
My initial guess would be that there is something irritating the nasal cavity.
Perhaps a small piece of bedding or something similar.

Once you have ruled that out, you will need to consider the possibility of a respiratory infection. If the symptoms continue, get her to a qualified reptile vet.

Good luck.

It is possible that the skin in her nostrils has loosened before her shed. It's sort of like having, for lack of a better term, a big ol booger clogging your nostril. I have been amazed at the size of some of the inner nostril stuff I've seen on sheds.

If there is no mucus or sneezing this would be my guess. Check it out when she sheds and I'll bet you'll be surprised too.

I've got one boa who has tiny nostrils, they never grew to proper size and he goes through this with every shed. I've even had to go in with tweezers and pull out the skin that didn't make it out his little nasal openings. I've got two of his sisters that did develope normal nostrils and have never had a problem with them.

You'll know when your snake sheds. Look at the shed skin and if the nostril hole is torn, it may well be that the skin got stuck in the nasal passage.

..thanks for the reply, i now know that is not from the shedding, it most likely an RI, i took her out to check her about half an hour ago and there was a bit of substrate sticking out of her mouth, my guess is from breathig with it open, she has been coughing sneezing and looks to be choking. ive been on the phone to many vet clinics and the only one that would see my snake can't see her until tomorrow. the doc isn't in . i'm so scared. i love my girl so much. i'm freaking out. my appt. isn't until 5:30 PLEASE, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT CAN DO FOR HER RIGHT NOW? to comfort her more, i can't get her mouth open but she opens it wide on her own(like choking) and i can't see anything lodged in there, right now i have her in a bucket with a clean towel for security, please, please help... she's my baby girl and i love her with all of my heart.

Thank you so much. This is a first for me, bothe my hognose and my crested have been very healthy until now. I'm trying to think if i have handled my gecko before washing my hands in the last week and a half. i did notice him sneezing the last time i took him out of his enclosure, now that i think of it. He has also been sleeping a lot (during the night) which is very unusual for him, he's normally pouncing all over the place. but he is still eating well so that's always a good sign...Hmmmm...i'll mention that to the Dr. today when we go. Thanks again for the input.:(

everything is fine now! the vet said that her enclosure was severely lacking humidity, therefor she wasn't shedding and her nostrils were covered over so she had no choice but to breathe through her mouth, which would explain the horrible chocking noises. Basically she was drying up from the outside in. I am so relieved that it wasn't an RI. It's nice to know that there are people out there that are willing to put in their 10 cents to try and help out someone else, thanks again.
