I went to pick up those 9 Leos today. In all of my innocence and being kind of new, and this being my first ever "Rescue" I NEVER thought I would actually see what I saw today. My heart is breaking and aching just looking at them. To Seamus, Chris66, and anybody else that thinks I'm a crappy owner....yeah right!!!! NONE of the animals that I personally own have ever even been close to looking like this and WOULD never!! Excuse me guys, I'm still in shock as I type.
The guy is a nice guy but a terrible Herper! Half or more of the 9 are looking like their in their last days. I WISH I hadn't waited a week, but like a week would of mattered. So we get to his house down the street from me and walk right in the door down the stairs and to the very right in the basement are these little critters. I had NO light to see them very well and Jeff and I are now referring to his basement as the dark, cold, musky Dungeon. Every little Leo I held felt like an ice cube. He had them on some crappy stand and only about five on the top shelf had flex watt hooked up to some hardware store "Thermostat." The rest had none. No calcium and I can tell they were probably never given any because when we got them home and looked over them better, at least three have MBD. I can tell because they lay on their feet and legs and walk with some of them rather badly. Their legs and feet are not shaped how they should be.
One of them also has NO front toes. Well, ONE front toe, but all of its toes are covered in shed. Many were covered in shed. They had very shallow water dishes, and no food in any of the dishes. I have only seen two eat so far. His dishes were the bitsy mini potting plant looking ones. The guy said he had been feeding them once a week for awhile. A few are babies and some are adults. What I don't get is the babies look much better then the adults, but the few adults are very active.
This guy also said that he bought them from Breeders on line. The one he was able to name was somebody who used to call their website Evergreen Reptiles??? Anybody know who that is? Whoever they are maybe its best they don't know their babies are near death. I'm not so sure who will pull through? I know they won't eat until their warmed up a bit for a few days and that after that we'll see. A couple babies have the shakes to. I could see their heads shaking and I have no clue what that means. I hope to God it goes away and its just from being cold.
It was either they stay there and die, go to the Pet Store and die(I don't even know what made the guy think they would of even taken them? He couldn't sell them to the Pet Store he tried.), or come home to my half house and POSSIBLY have a chance. As I've stated I have no money for Vets for NINE little Leos and some of the heatings not right but we will try or best. They could have heat here and they would be MUCH warmer then ever. He gave us his extra Flex watt though so Jeff went to work today even though he didn't want to and hes looking around for quit a few things. We need a sodering iron for the Flexwatt and funny thing is I've never even seen Flexwatt!! Right now they are still on the floor because it took me FOREVER just to clean everything out and they are basking in the sun, most sleeping a few feet from my door. What can I say we get the best sunlight from the living room. Two windows, door windows and a huge bay window.
They were cold, barely had any paper towels, wet was everywhere and poop was also everywhere. They had great looking moist hides that were really wet that they all sat in in the freezing cold. Jeff is going to pull as many supplies as he can get from work today, and hes also going to look for some liquid calcium for me. So far I've got them A. clean B. warming up in the sun and C. mealworms in their washed out dishes with plenty of JurassiCal Calcium, no phosphorus.
This guy kinda knew what he was doing but not really and if he did he surprised me and he just didn't care to do it. I personally don't think not having enough time is an excuse for anyones animals to look like this. I still have the Flukers emergency feeding aid powder, Pedialyte and syringe from Piccolo for these guys. I'm also trying to find a blender for Marcia's mix, the most of it I can get anyway. Please help me you guys, what should I be doing?
These little Leos are SO CUTE!!! I can tell there some REALLY nice morphs. Some have oval eyes, some have perfectly round and beaty ones. They are counted as lethargic, and especially the one is ?emacipated? Did I spell it right. I pulled shed skin out this ones mouth and his ear hole. OMG, I'm gonna cry!!!!
Well I'm off for now to call the local Herpers I found that wanted them about this whole mess. I refuse for them to leave my house for at LEAST two weeks, so that I can watch, evaluate and feed. I'm not so sure many of these Leos will live and now we get to play God and euthanize somebody else's rotten mistakes. Today was a very real lesson for me.
