This is meant as an inquiry thread. Powerhouse reptiles, " Have you made a Highway with your Het Highways?"
Question #2 goes to Bill Brandt or Shane Herbold or anyone in the Highway project. I thought that Het Highway and Gravel were synonomous in the same way that Het Puma and Spark or Het Ivory and Yellow Belly are the same. Am I confused? Please enlighten me. Thanks, Dale Porcher DVM

Yes, a Gravel is also known as a het Highway. Gravel bred to Yellowbelly produces 25% normals, 25% Yellowbellys, 25% Gravels, 25% Highways. I'm not sure why they are trying to market them differently.

Because that's what they do. "Washout"- "The Real HGW"- and now this.
They have created every morph out there...didn't ya know.

Watch out Matt Lerer:eek:!

I am confused on the add myself. Bill at the Animal Company was the first one to produce the highways back in 08. He gives credit to his wharehouse manager Susan Black for pairing up two similar YB's ( I think I explained that correctly). She is the one who named the Highway and the het a Gravel.

Am I missing something? I don't see where they claimed this to be their line.

I am confused a little myself. I had also thought that het highways and gravels were (2) completely different mutations, being that Gravels had not been proven to make a highway ball. The information I had heard (stated above) was about a year old and may be completely inaccurate. I do not know Bill Brant personally, but I do know Shane whom has produced visual Highway balls (2) consecutive years in a row. Maybe both Shane and Bill will add more specific info regarding your questions Dale to help clear things up a bit. I would think by now, Mr. Brant has made Highway's from his original offspring. I believe Shane's highways (6) were all produced from his original proven Het Highway female.

My question is: Have Highways been produced using offspring (gravels) of a clutch that has produced Highways?

Specter = het Superstripe
Spark = het Puma
Gravel = het Highway

The Animal Conpany named the Highway and also named the het Highway a Gravel being that the other two YB complex snakes had names for the hets as well.

So unless there's another "gravel" out there that nobody else knows of, it's the ingredient required, along with YB, that's needed to create a Highway.

The way they are trying to sell them is misleading. I would love to see the Highways they've produced from their known "gravels". Even bill brant who's been working with them the longest can't identify a gravel with 100% accuracy (95% last conversation). Lol!

You could be missing the others they are claiming to be their own...
They don't have to try and claim it to be their own for me to see what's going on...again. This is nothing new with them.

Anyway, I think Chris hit it on the head with his last post.

Phr is shady imo. Always have been, seems they always will be.

Amanda- :>off_to<: Please stay on topic if you must post a reply. Believe it or not, there are quite a few people that would rather skip all the BOI Jockey Bull**** post and get to the point!

I would suggest that you start your own thread regarding PHR if you have other un-related information you would like to share. :thumbsup:

And I would suggest that you familiarize yourself with BOI protocols. This thread IS about PHR, so if she has information that she feels is relevant to that topic, it'd be senseless to start a different thread. :thumbsup:

as has been pointed out, this thread is about PHR. In fact the general genetic discussion is what is riding a fine line for starting to get off topic and may be better served in the BP discussion thread.

like a lot of other people pointed out are gravel and het highway the same. just like a yellow belly gets called het ivory sometimes or sparks are called het pumas.

when u pair a gravel to a yb u get 25% normals, 25% ybs, 25% gravels and 25% highways.

since ybs and gravels look pretty much alike people usually sell the snakes from these breedings which probably arent the ybs as possible het gravels. thats would be the correct term.

poss het gravels go for around 2k here in germany.

since theirs are combos, the price is ok and technically they didnt said anything wrong in their post (other than mixing up the gravels). but it would be interesting to know if theyve prodzced a highway with their gravels yet. if not- how can they be sure theyre gravels or poss het grvaels? 3 to 7k is a lot of money for unproven animals...

sorry. not possible het gravels, but possible gravels (or possible het highways for that matter)

As far as the HET HIGHWAY..... I believe he edited his ad, correct me if Im wrong but when i read it this morning the ad stated "THEY SHOULD PRODUCE HIGHWAYS" not that they will I may be wrong there but i pretty sure it was somewhere along those lines. Sorry if I am wrong.

Now my own personal expirence w PHR:

Last year I called up PHR to inquire about a pair of pastels het clown, Joe, at first was really nice until he realized I wanted hets and not visuals(COULDNT AFFORD AT THE TIME). After realizing it was hets I wanted his attitude completley changed, sorta like I was wasting his time.

He proceeded to tell me he could get me a good deal on one of his visual pastel clown females and then the following year (this year) he would give me a deal on a visual male. I dont recall the exact price he quoted me, but it was still $1000's more than the pastel hets I called for. I politely declined stating money issues as my problem.

He then proceeded to tell me my het to het plan was garbage yada yada yada saying the odds sucked real breeders would have atleast one visual. Sure I WOULD LOVE A VISUAL BUT HE JUST KEPT FORGETTING THE PART WHERE I TOLD HIM ABOUT MY MONEY ISSUES.

He was very pushy not letting me get a word in and finally I had enough hung up on him in the middle of his rant. Needless to say after that I barely look at his ads anymore would never buy from PHR

I think this is a good time for me to step in. Since 2008, we have produced 10+ Highways. We have also produced a similar number of het Highways during that time, although I have never sold one as a het Highway (actually in 2010 my manager mistakenly sold several to Petco as normals, oops). The reason I have never sold a het Highway is that I can not say with absolute certainty that the are het Highways. The reason I have not proven what I am 95% sure of, is that I prefer breeding my Highway males to the limited number of Yellow Belly or Ivory females that I have. Joe23 is correct, we did name the het Highway the Gravel in early 2012. We did that to simplify the naming as had been done earlier for the het Super Stripe (Specter) and het Puma (Spark). As for the ad for a possible het Highway that was in the ad by PHR, the picture I saw does not resemble any of the animals I believe to be Gravels/het Highways. Knowing what I know, I would not spend $4,500 for the ones advertised as possible het Highways. I hope this sheds some light on the subject.

Bill, I appologize if I missed it in your post but I am still confused regarding the question I had: I understand you made the first Highways and Het Highways later named gravels in 2008. I understand you did not sell any of the offspring from those clutches since 2008. I also understand that you have used your male highway(s) on your yellowbelly/ combo females to obtain the best results. Have you not bred any of the female offspring you kept since 2008 to prove out your Gravels? or Have you made a Highway from any of the non-highway offspring to date?

Thanks,

Wondering if phr is going to respond to this. I see they are still claiming het Highway and Gravel to be two different genes.:rolleyes:

phr why don't you come here and let us all know whats up? Obviously there are quite a few of us who are curious.

This thread can easily stay at the top of the "New Post" page, right above the bogus ads you keep bumping which is where I assume it will stay if you don't give an explanation. :shootfoot
