In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hey guys, just figured I'd wave and say hi :) I primarily lurk here because I'm still very new to herps courtesy of my 9-year-old son who went on a "we must acquire a snake" campaign, netting us 4 snakes (in under 6 weeks. I post over on BP.net primarily, and I've also been reading here to get a better feel for everything.

Anyway, nice to meet y'all! Now I'm going to get back to lurking and obsessing over my two snakes who are mid-shed. Type A Mom Meets Snake. Oish

Welcome to Fauna Amanda! :D

Forums are a great place to ask questions when you first get in to something, not to mention they allow you to share with folks who have similar interests. (I prefer low-maintenance pets myself, so I'm another snake person.) You can learn a lot just by lurking, but I've always felt it's more fun to join in! :p

Nice to meet you! I hope that your scaly new family members are doing well~

Thanks for the welcome :) And I don't intend to remain a lurker forever, but I do like to get a feel for the lay of the land, so to speak, to lessen my chances of sticking my foot in my mouth.

Plus I'm also a freaked-out newbie so I'm attempting to learn via reading and using the "search" features so I don't drive anyone insane. Considering my Type A leanings, trust me, this is a good thing :D

Whatever works best for you! :yesnod: Personally I think it's very smart to check and see if your questions have already been answered. Kudos!
That aside, I also think it's fun just to share what's going on in one's collection. I honestly don't mean to pressure you into anything, I'm just saying that for me at least, it's nice to show off my new pet and get something more than a bunch of "ewwww"s in response! :p lol Just my opinion on these things~

Good luck!

Oh true enough on being able to share without a "Yuck!" comment! That's one reason I'm around. Even my mother -- bless her, she tries -- but her utter lack of enthusiasm to my announcement that my female BP finally shed completely is pretty indicative of most of my family's reaction to the scaly little beasties.

Thankfully my husband is at least supportive. He's not a huge snake person, but he doesn't dislike them and he's been more than helpful with our setup, feeding, really anything I need. It's more than I can ask, actually, considering his only warning that we were going to be acquiring snakes was when my 9-year-old and I came home from Repticon bearing reptiles. Oops?

Dude's a saint :)

Thank you, Ed! Yes, the son in question is the extremely happy looking little guy holding the burm in my avatar (taken at Gatorland in Orlando) :) I swear, he was in heaven that day!
