In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Wanted to stop in and say hi. I have been lurking for a couple of days. Trying to do even more research.

We currently have 2 crested gecko's, a saltwater aquarium & a dog:)

We are planning on getting a tortoise or box turtle soon.

I think our son has narrowed it down to either an eastern box, 3 toed box, Greek, Russian, or Herman.

We are trying to help him with a final decision. Any input would be appreciated.
We do want something that will stay relatively small in comparison.

We have been trying to find a breeder in the Kansas City, or surrounding area, however, have not had much luck. We have even tried to contact a local turtle rescue, many times who I can only guess is to busy, or does not want to let anyone adopt, because we have heard zero from them.

Been reading a lot of negative things about buying from chain pet stores... Any input on this?

I guess that is all I have for now, and I am sure we will have other questions.
We appreciate any helpful advice in the meantime :)

Welcome to Fauna! Most breeders today are experianced shippers and can ship you a healthy baby tortise for you and your family to raise. Good luck and I hope you find one!
As far as what species I do not know. I am a lizard person.

Good luck!

Welcome to FC! As already stated, most breeders are able to ship, so don't let location be a big factor in your search. There are lots of great people right here on FC and with some looking around in the Classifieds section, I am sure you will have no trouble finding what you are looking for. Also, don't be shy in asking for advice or help with any questions you may have. Our members are very knowledgeable and will be able to help you choose the perfect pet and setup.

As far as chain pet stores, stay away if you can. Animals are very often imported and/or in poor health due to sub par care and housing. You can usually find what you are looking for from a breeder for less than what the stores want, not to mention, in better condition.

Good luck with your search, and again, welcome.
