In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi guys, im new here.

Well, I'm going to be buying a BCI here pretty soon. It will be my first BCI but not my first snake. My first snake was a Ball Python.

Ive been reading up on BCI's for a really long time, starting around this time last year, and this year i finally have the chance to buy one. And i still havent lost interest in them.

But I've got a question to ask. Im going to be buying a cage from boaphile plastics. And im debating to get the 4' x 2' x 11" or the 4' x 2' x 17.5". I know that boas are part arboreal, so i was wondering if it would really matter.

Also, the snake will probably be living in a 40 gallon terrarium for a while, not forever but, for how ever long it takes for me to save up for the boaphile cage. and ive heard of some troubles with terrariums like, its hard to maintain humidity and heat and all that. so is that alright if he lives in there for a while?

And, im going to be using Carefresh bedding, for those of you that havent heard of it, its like clumps of newspaper. is this alright for the boa?

Thanks to anyone who replies.

Welcome!!!

I think you'll be real happy with a Boa as a pet. BPs are nice, but somehow I love the Boa personality best.

As for the Boaphile caging, good choice. I like the 17.5 in height myself, but that's just for me to be able to squeeze in there to clean. I do like to view my animals also, so I like the extra viewing room. Go with what you would like.

If you have to use a forty for a short time, if you set it up right, it should be fine. Shhhh, don't tell anyone, but almost all my animals have lived the first few months of their lives in aquarium setups. :)

I'm not a real big fan of carefresh, but some people are. I prefer cypress mulch for ease of cleaning, aesthetics and humidity issues. Plus cypress is much cheaper if you succumb to the addiction and end up with more than one Boa.:raspberry

Have fun with your new pet!

Hello and welcome!

I use the Boaphile 421D's for my big boas. 11 inch height. The small ones are in Natures Spirit Snake Shacks....well, until recently when I got a really nice 75 gallon aquarium set-up that was set up perfectly to keep the temps and humidity right (and put 2 of my little girls in there...no, I don't want to be told to separate them. There are two sets of everything and plenty of space.)

I use newspaper as substrate because it is cheap and easy to use. I tried the carefresh but prefer the newspaper. Aspen looks nice, I use it with my Rosys.

When using the aquarium for housing make sure the lid is covered enough to keep the temps and humidity at the right level. I took in a snake for the summer that was kept in a tank with a screen lid. To keep his humidity up I covered most of the lid with a heavy beach towel. I do the same for my big corn snake, who has always lived in a tank.

Welcome! Its great to see someone doing research and getting things right before going out and purchasing a snake and subjecting it to less than perfect conditions! Good luck with the new boa and we look forward to seeing some pictures!

Thanks a lot for the info guys. Im actually not going to be putting him in a terrarium now. Im just going to be buying the cage first, and save up a little longer for the snake, better off that way, you know? Once again, thanks a lot. :)
