In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

well thanks for everyone help.
but i will keep her and so my understanding is that hets are junk?
i will keep this in mind when i get my next reptile.
so if someone had a reg ball female and a spider ball male and breed them
then the babies will be hets also so not worth the money they ask for as a pure spider ball?
If this is in reference to the ad heading I posted, you missed the point I was trying to demonstrate. That ad was by a fairly well known breeder/seller, and it proclaimed the snakes to be 100% het anery Hog Island boas. A lot of people might be interested in these, if they were in fact true hog island boas (probably not nearly as many as would be interested in a real albino hog island). A lot of people won't care, and will buy them anyway...but for myself and many others, it is just another person we cannot buy hogs from.

I'm glad I already have my breeding stock, because it looks like things are going to be a real mess in a few years.

This is not saying anything about the people that are breeding these animals, or the people that buy them...just an observation.

I saw the same add, there was nothing misleading about it. He stated what the cross was and thats all there is to it. Its the same as buying any snake(het or normal) you have to check on the seller and trust him or her. That is what is so great about this site, the scum bags always get caught. There will always be people misrepresenting animals. It happened to me but I think I ended up with some pretty nice Pastel hoggs, which of course are crosses. If I see anything in front of Hogg island (pastel, het anery, het albino) I know its some kind of cross. It will be big news when a morph comes from a pair of true hoggs. Rich also asked if people thought he made an even trade, not everyones opinion on crosses.

Richie, it isn't that "hets are junk", it's the fact that what you have is a hogg crossed with another type of boa. That's not to say it is "junk", I'm sure she can and will make a wonderful pet for you. But it is sad to see the Hogg lines not remaining pure.
Richard,
I'm going to delve a bit more into what Cat is saying here, so you might better understand our perspective. Forgive me if you already know/understand this. Hog Island boas are an insular form of BCI. Their color/pattern, combined with their smaller size, made them very popular and they were collected heavily...to the point that the wild population was decimated. Too late, importation was stopped. In fact, for years, they were thought to be extinct on the island for which they are named...but over the past several years, they have been seen again. So, even though they are taxonomically the same as Columbian boas (Boa constrictor imperator), they are viewed by many as separate animals. Given the status of this snake in the wild, and its individual beauty, there are a lot of people that want to keep captive populations pure, to maintain the integrity of the bloodlines...to preserve the hog island boa.
When a hog island boa is bred to a normal BCI, and the offspring are marketed as hog island boas, it is both sad and upsetting. Sad because the more it happens, the harder it will be to find true hog island boas. Upsetting for that very same reason. Upsetting, also, because these people don't care...a hog island boa is worth approx 3X as much as a normal BCI, so they take the money and run without so much as a second thought. I don't doubt for a minute that more and more people will be breeding BCI morphs with hogs...and asking prices that are higher than either is worth singly. I won't discount the potential beauty of the animals, but that doesn't mean I want to see it happen.

As Clay already said, we could have just said it was a lousy deal, he got ripped off, burnt, whatever...
The value of a trade is in the eyes of the trader. I, among others, said this before - if Richard is happy with the deal, then it is a good trade. Keep in mind that nobody belittled him for his choice, and that we have as much right to our opinions as you do yours. Much of what I have added to this thread was for the sake of clarification, not condemnation. If it was taken as anything else, consider this my sincere apology.
