    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

homemade incubator

need the design!

We are getting ready to build our incubator, and were going to go with the fridge design since a buddy of ours does scrap hauling and we can get one for free. I LOVE the smaller one with the heating element! The space and hassle it would cause for us getting it up and down the attic steps (to get there is 2 flights of steps, one very curvy) would be AWESOME! Tell me where you have found these things! Craigslist out here is crap!

If we do decide to go with the full sized fridge/freezer thing, would the heating element work in something so big? We are looking at using an old fridge that has the freezer on top, and setting the fridge part to incubate at lower temps (around 81) and the freezer up higher (around 87) so we can more easily temp sex some of these babies coming. Right now we are using the old Hovabator set at about 80-82, but it is SUCH a pain, and we have run out of room to put eggs already!

Thanks for the help everyone!

The smaller heat element from Randallburkey.com might not be big enough for a full size fridge. For larger size incubators like the custom one I posted a picture of I go with a larger heat element from Lyonelectric.com. They also sell the insulators and any accessories you might need. If you call them directly with your dimensions they are great about picking out the right size heat element for the enclosure size.

Hope this helps,

Those are great looking incubators; I do have just a couple questions. Do you need any other type of water source for humidity, or does the vermiculite have enough water for the job, and second do they need any type of exhaust ports or are they big enough that they don’t really need to have them? Once again Great job hope they hatch lots of babys.
