• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hotmail, and other "anonymous" Email addresses

I use a hotmail address for some of my internet transactions. There is nothing anonymous about it... I have my full name on the account, and try to sign every email I send with my full name. Definitely not trying to hide anything.

As for the phone, I too like to have everything documented in email... And - some people are REALLY annoying to talk to on the phone! If I'm in a hurry, I can send an email in a few seconds. Or I can get stuck on the phone for half an hour. It's inevitable.

Anonymous ISPs

I think the phone is great when making a deal, but it's also good to have a written record as others have expressed, and I know that I can be hard to get on the phone sometimes. As far as anonymous e-mail accounts go, I really don't know. People have tried to rip me off twice, one was an anonymous e-mail address, the other wasn't. I personally have four different e-mail accounts and use them all for different things. I give credit card companies, mail-order catalogs, etc., my yahoo address. I use my FSU address for school only. My MSN account is for my dog breeding business. And my Hotmail account is for my friends, family and herp transactions. I've heard this argument somewhere before and thought about changing my e-mail address for my small snake business, but like others I frequently change ISPs. And since I do alot more communicating via e-mail with my snake business then my dog business I decided to leave things the way they were. I don't know if other's have run into this, but out here in the sticks it's really difficult to find a good ISP. A lot of the big guys don't even have local dial-up numbers for where I live. Just another reason why someone might use an anonymous ISP. And as stated in the previous post when I send an e-mail from my hotmail account my first and last name is in parentheses right next to the address. I usually give my phone number out to someone I'm doing a deal with, but after reading this thread maybe I should just start making it part of my signature. I don't know? I don't want to scare away any potential customers, but I don't want former students of mine or people that I've arrested being that able to access my unlisted number. I can see it now, it's 3:00 AM on Sunday morning, and "John Q." is calling me up wanting to know why I flunked him in English four years ago. Or worse yet, "Joe Blow" just got out of prison and wants to say "Hi". Yeah, I think I'm just gonna have to leave my number off my signature and give it out as needed. And don't hate me cuz' I'm beautiful, I mean anonymous. ;)

I have the same problem where I live. I only have one company I can get internet access. So I take the free AOL or Yahoo or MSN, I am not going to pay this company and the rest. I have better things to do with my money, like buy more animals:D

While we're on the subject of anonymity, I get really frustrated when I get inquiries from people who don't put a name at all. The E-mail address will be [email protected] and the message will be: "Do you have snow corns?"

From this message I don't know who sent it, how old they are or whether or not they are really interested in snow corns. Maybe I'm rude but I usually reply to these E-mails like this: "Yes. SHAWN"

At the very least, I'd like to know the first name of who I'm dealing with, and a last name and state wouldn't hurt.
I don't give my phone number out on my WEB site because of the number of people who call to ask about corn snakes they bought from someone else, or who just call and say "I like corn snakes too." I answer E-mails on my own time and I can use E-mail to refer question askers to the sites containing the information they desire.

I also use a hotmail account...one that doesn't have my real name in it. That was partly because when I signed up for it I WANTED to be anonymous because it was for the websites I visited. These days it's just my personal account that I use for everything not work related (my only pc access is at work). Around here internet access is between $20-$40 per month, not counting the cost of a computer. I don't have the extra money right now to afford either the service or the computer. Like so many people, my money goes towards life necessities and then my animals. Lately there hasn't been much left over after that. Am I less reliable because of it? No. I would conduct business the same regardless of who provided my email addy.

Not everyone that has a hotmail account is a scam. I have one myself I use at times. I have never scamed anyone.

oops, I see those showed up as real email links.

They were made up versions of addresses I have gotten inquiries from, no need to email the people! LOL!
