In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi, all :)

Last week I picked up a house snake from a nice lady who had him up on craigslist because she couldn't keep him anymore. I know the taxonomy of house snakes is confusing so I hope I could get some clarification as to what mine may be. The original owner doesn't remember what she bought him as, just referred to him as a "African Black House Snake" below are some pictures of the twitchy bugger. (sorry for the orientation)

I am thinking L. fuliginosis ?

Good luck.

I'm not a house snake guy, but the hobby "species" designation you get will likely not match up with the official taxonomy, and neither of those will be valid for very long.

Probably you will never, without knowing the collection locations of the ancestors, be able to track down which species (plural) make up your snake. Unfortunately, a percentage of the non-locale animals in the hobby are eventually discovered to be crosses between species or subspecies. My understanding is that house snakes fall into that category. (See the link and the point that Boaedon fuliginosus (formerly Lamprophis fuliginosus) is at least 7 and possibly 10 species)

It is pretty, and I hope you enjoy keeping it!

Thank you very much! I have seen that article before! I agree it's difficult to tell without knowing the lineage of the parents, and I will probably never know unless I can track down the breeder. Apparently the woman I got him from purchased him at the White Plains Reptile Expo last April. I'm probably gonna scrounge through the vendor list to see if I can find a match because I'm nosy.
