    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

last year i had 2 boas together an argentine and a red tail columbian both of the same size. they did fine together but i was wondering if you can keep any kind of boas together bc i recently got a 280 gal tank and want to put a few like emerald tree, dumeril, red tail, n argentine. i wanted to have 4 snakes in it. i have alot of experience w snakes ive had them for 8 yrs but i never had a emerald tree and even if i didnt kno if they would be good together in the same enviroment all day? let me kno what you think thanks...
 
No - the environment that an emerald needs would not be good for the others (and vice versa). I am not going to say that you cannot cohabitate snakes, because you can - it just isn't always the best thing for the snakes, and it makes your job more difficult. If you are going to try it, they should ideally be of the same species and comparably sized. If you choose to go against that, then they should be at least similar in their needs, habits, and origins. IMO, the group you described would be a very poor combination, with the emerald dying fairly quickly. A 280 gal tank will not provide an adequate home a group like that (even after the emerald donates it's space)for long, considering the average size of the different snakes.

well i had the argentine and the red tail together for about 2 years they were fine and the red tail and the dumeril were out together on my bed and they seemed fine. i dont care about the caring for them and if it is harder or not right now the tank is empty and i wanted to make it for all of thm the only thing i didnt know about was the emerald tree.
 
The argentine and the red tail are close enough that you can get away with it. They are the same genus and species, after all. The dumerils, on the other hand, is from a different part of the world, and is functionally a different animal. Care is not terribly different, but I wouldn't house them together - **that has nothing to do with aggression issues...of course they were fine together on your bed, what did you expect? Hissing, biting, pushing? One of them ending up dead or bloody?

You are going to do what you are going to do. I know better than to try to talk you out of it.

thanks for the advice harold and im not like that obviously u have more experience and i askd the question for a reason because i figured somebody would know more than me which you do. so what would u think since i have such a big tank and my red tail boa isnt that big yet (about 4ft) of a red tail and an argentine together in that tank and since ill have a vacant 55gal i could house the dumeril in there????
 
i put my dumeril in the same tub when i was cleanen a couple cages out with my argentine and the dumeril bit the argentine a few time and i hurd from a couple people that dumerils are aggresive towards other snakes i was wondering the same ? you are if they are agressive towards other snakes or was the person i heard this from just blowin smoke at me
 
well i had my red tail w my friends dumeril on my bed and they were fine and the dumeril was bigger than my red tail by a foot or so and my friend also has a red tail which is like 8ft or so and they are always fine together so i dont kno i dont kno much about the dumerils
 
Is there a problem housing them seperately? Why use tanks? They are for fish & frogs. A good 5 - 6 boa can break the glass if they wedge between something in the tank and the tank wall. Get boa cages and leave the tanks for the fish.
 
I Don't house none of my snakes together I use my boa phile racks or my visions . I was asking the ? because I was cleaning cages and my buddy was helping out and we both took the snakes out at the same time and the Dumeril bit the Argentine a couple times. I just wanted to know if Dumerils were other snake aggressive ?

i dont know why i use tanks i never really came across any cage type things for housing snakes in a pet store or wherever but my friend was getting rid of his 280gal so i decided to take it and the post wasnt about that it was abou housing diff boas together not what kind of housing i used..

Most of us around here care more for the snake, than your toes getting stepped on. Tanks have proved to be less than ideal for keeping Boa Constrictor. Good advice was offered, nothing more. You don't need to be so defensive. Some of us have found this out the hard way. Looks like you're going to be in that crowd too.

If you'd like, some links can be provided where you can look into appropriate housing for Boas. There are many manufacturers of nice long lasting and affordable Boa cages.

Or go ahead with your master plan and figure things out on your own. They're not my snakes. :shrug01:
 
I wasnt getting defensive or trying to be a tough guy i was jus simply sayin that wasnt what the post was for and if you could i wouldnt mind some links for boa cages maybe ill sell the tank and by a cage if i like and it really proves better for the snake. thakns
 
i would build my own but my father wouldnt let me he is scared shit of snakes and mice n rats as well so he said he would rather somethin he knows it isnt gonna get out of. but u are right when they get big they definitly could either break the glass or push the top right open they r very strong. thanks for the links appreciate it.. and does neone know where i could find baby argentine or even young argentine about 1-4 ft anywhere in that range???
 
You could do like Bryon suggested in your other post. Check the classified ads. We have classifieds here, some over at Kingsnake.com, and RTB.net, too many to list. Most of the forum boards have a classified section.

Off hand, I don't know of anyone selling any at the moment.
