In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

How do you guys cool it ?

:shrug01: So,,I'm thinking of messing around with "making snake babies",,so to speak.
I have just picked up a big female(I hope)Cali king,at the show last weekend,N.Y.,,and want to try to make some jungle corns.I had a male Cali that I just sold,to make room for this female, and I have a big male normal phase corn as the potential mate.
my question is ; how can I cool them this winter ?,,they need to be kept in the 50-55 degree range, right,,how do I do that in my house ??
I check the temp in my basement yesterday and its 55 NOW.My basement is'nt heated,so in the winter it gets real cold down there.I do have an old fridge down there, but I don't think it could keep in the 55 range,,even at its highest setting. What to do....any ideas ??? HELP

Dave, I put my bulls & milks in my basement for brumation. During the coldest periods, it does drop below 50...but I don't really worry about it unless it looks like it will go below 45 (even then, it would need to stay there for a few days before I start thinking about intervening). I've never brumated cal kings, but I've done a variety of colubrids (several types of ratsnakes, milks, and kings) this way without a problem.
If you think it will get too cold, you can try putting them down earlier, so you are bringing them up earlier in the winter (hopefully avoiding the coldest periods)...or make a small hibernaculum that you can temp control.

:) Hey Harald,,how have you been ??,good I hope.
I think the basement IS my only choice.I will put some insulation in the windows, and maybe a space heater,,the wife will love that
Before I count my eggs,,I better make sure my chicken is a "chicken".
The guy that sold me the big Cali said she was a female,BUT also said he never bred her or probed her ,he also said she was just over 2 yrs. of age.She grew fast, real FAST.
Either way,,I wont be upset,,she/he is beautiful and loves to be handled.Worst case scenario,,I sell my male corn and start looking again.
Talk to you later H.

I'm not sure how cold your basement gets, but I would go with a hibernaculum (doesn't have to be anything more than a big enough box to hold a couple of storage containers). A little plywood or melamine, some insulation board, heat tape, and controller, and you're set....a lot cheaper than running a space heater in the basement. You've got lots of time, so if $$ are a factor you can space it out. Heck, I've probably got enough melamine scraps here to set you up...heat tape, too. And I can probe her for you. Drop me a line, we'll figure it out.

Sounds good,,thanks Harald.
This hibernaculum thing,,what is it just heated, insulated, box ?, big enough to hold a few sterilite tubs ?? sounds like something I might try,,got any "blue prints" ?..talk to you later.
(ps)
maybe we could meet up some evening,,I'll bring my king, to Troy,to probe :yesnod:

Heated, cooled, whichever the situation dictates (usually, it is cooled, for animals requiring lower temps). No blue prints...just a box, some insulation, and a few holes for ventilation. Just enough heat tape to keep the worst of the chill off. Honestly, if you are concerned about temps, I'd set one up...but not run it unless things really got too cold.

Forgot to say earlier - say hi to Kim for me.

Wow, sounds even simple enough for me to build,(I 'm no Bob Vela)
I do have accesse to some good size card board boxes, from work.
R-max on the out side....I can see this working.
Kim said Hi,,she said she does'nt see you much, being your a "night owl" employee.
I'll talk to you later.

This hibernaculum thing

I would have to agree with this. In my opinion, its your best option. Unless I missed it, you never said how cold your basement gets. Since you are only working with a limited number of snakes here, it will not take up too much space. I recently made one for a friend and used a small dorm type fridge and heat tape. Good luck with the Jungle project. Thats a project I have never attempted before.

Well my basement is in the 50's now, and its in the 70's out side,so my guess is it will drop into the 40's in the coldest part of winter .
Harald has never steered me wrong :D
