In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

How many do this full-time?

Do you breed as a full-time job?

I got to wondering just how many of us floating around here are lucky enough to work with geckos as their full-time job.

Myself, I'm moving over the next 6 months from hobby/pet keeper to (hopefully) part-time breeder.

I have another full time job...gotta pay the bills & the benefits are nice (summers off!). But luckily, because of the subjects I teach (biology/env. science) I get to take my "hobby" to work.

Well, thats hard to answer for me, I am a stay home mom so that is my full time commitment, the leos are a passion and hobby, I don't consider them a job or a source of income at all.

Although its nice to break even on feeders or make a few $$ here and there to buy from others but I personally don't consider it a job but a privilege to be able to have the time to work with the leos while I stay home with my children.

I am a Chef by day Gecko Breeder by night. Right now its more of a hobby than a business. It's more to blow off steam and the stresses of work. But I am planing to get more leos so who knows whats in store for next year.

I'm a (soon to be) frame shop manager, part-time painter, and leo keeper.

LOL...I hope to get to a point that I can breed leos and paint, and do nothing else.

Student, gecko breeder, part time herp shop worker, son, brother, church sound board guy, driving student, babysitter, cook, I do it all..!

Right now all I do is play with geckos and post on fauna all day. :) That’s because I have the summer off. When the fall/spring semesters are in session I’m also a full time college student. Needless to say I get very busy during that time…

i have 2 full time jobs i work for smith and wesson making revolvers and i also spen alot of time caring for my animals not just geckos so i live a very busy life and i think a very good question to add is actually how much sleep do all the breeders out there actually get cuz i only average id say 3-4 hours a Day(I Work the night shift 6pm-6am)

I do not make much on leos..... But I make a killing on the snakes I breed..... I have a regular full time job...... The animals are my hobby.....

I work a full time job,a part time job,help a buddy at his shop,and breed geckos.I put in around 75-86 hours a week,i work 7 days a week. :dgrin:

I am currently studying to be a website designer on a part time course, the rest of my time goes into my leos and looking for a job. If i could have a full time job working and caring for herps i would definatley take the oppurtunity.

While geckos our not our main focus (we do a few) we work full time at this hobby. We own a retail shop that allows us to spend more time focusing on breeding projects than if we were working other jobs. Our breeding facility / shop takes 3 of us working full time+ to keep up to par. Unfortunately the business side of things take a lot of our time, much rather just spend the day relaxingly taking care of the animals :D

That sounds like me Jodi!
Full Times Job (In Summer), usually 18 credits 3x a year at school (we're on trimesters), working 20 hrs a week while in school, plus all the animals... I've never actually counted how many hours per week that ads up to... but I have NO free time anymore LOL

The idea is that one day I'll have a retail shop, but to be honest that's not really a possibility anytime soon because I want to buy a house first.

I had a hard time placing myself. We are really just getting started with geckos, only one breeding pair at this point. But, I do spend quite a lot of time with them, and they are certainly a full-time passion for me - and my kids! :) I teach biology/ecology during the school year, but have the summers off - more time for the geckos, but less cash. Next season, we will hopefully be producing many more hatchlings! :D

you are too sweet, I think Ive got your new 10 about ready, just got to double check tonight to be sure :)

I work outside in the AZ heat for 10-12 hrs a day then come home and to put a nail in my coffin, 1-2 hrs with the geckos and some time screwing around on the net.

Hmm... now I realize why my wife complains about me not spending time with her! :nopity:

I wish I could turn breeding reptiles into a full time job, but I have a feeling that's going to take me a decade at the least to accomplish! :)

Just finished college for now and took home a MS degree. It was hard taking care of the geckos and writing a thesis at the same time! Now that I'm out of school, I'm working full time in a factory while I search for a job nearby in my field (wildlife biology). Once I get my own place, I plan on expanding my reptile collection significantly. ;)

Ill tell you how to cure that problem, I was complaning because hubby works so much including all weekends and has 3 hours of driving a day so I rarely get any time with him at all, so he finally took 3 days off over the 4th and would not let me out of his site, I mean it was like he was super glued to me, I now will not complain for a long time :raspberry
