Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

How often should I use the reptical?

Oh yeah! Hah I guess its pretty late at night and I opened it in a tab and forgot it was open til just now.

Yeah, I'm about to head to bed. ;)

Is she 6 inches nose to vent or 6 inches total?

It really depends on the age. They tend to eat more as they grow. This sub adult can eat around 10 medium sized silks in one sitting, or around 15-20 large crix. You should think about getting your baby phoenix worms too, but this guy could eat a whole pot of those in one sitting, so I don't feed him those anymore.

If you decide to raise silks from the egg, be sure to read up on their care first. They are really delicate until they get to around a half to an inch long. You have to mix up silkworm chow, but its not bad. Their enclosure has to be kept clean or they get sick. Raising them is a bit of a pain, but it would save you money.;)

Well, I will check this thread tomorrow. I hope she eats for you. Keep us posted, and do try to get more crix in front of her at a time. The extra movement might make a difference.

6'' total, shes a little baby.

Ill try tossing in 5 crix tomorrow after a nice bath. Let you know what happens.

I think that raising the silkworms sounds easy enough, ill buy a heating pad and a rubbermain tote and order around 200 worm eggs. Seems like all you really have to do is feed them daily which isnt a problem.

Im also thinking that the Phoenix worms from mulberry farms are VERY cheap.
150 worms for $20. How many could she possibly eat? Id say that would last me at least a week no?

Eh... not $20 its $5.99 which is waaay better. Alright I clearly need to get some sleep.

So ive been reading about the stress marks and all that.
She usually has them in her enclosure, im guessing that shes either hungry or the temps arent just right.

To make matters worst, most of the crickets escaped last night.
To my horror, I was playing warcraft and all of a sudden I see a cricket jump onto my desk and I flipped out! I found out that there was a hole in the bag where I have them ughhh.

Gave her a bath today, she drank lots of water and at first her belly was completely white but then she started to get a little nervous and started to try to run away then her belly got blacker and blacker and I took that as a "done with the bath, food now!", also she was shedding! The top of her abdomen was covered in dead skin and the bath really helped her, shes really bright now.

Its really funny that once I take her out of her enclosure and pet her head hell marks disappear and shell fall asleep on me, but in her enclosure shes always stressed :(

Gonna get new thermometer and food after feeding time.

Hon, you can't keep crix in the bag. You have to set them up and feed them or they won't be nutritious for her. You need to set them up in a tank or bin of some kind, and provide them with food and water. There is a jell product that you can get from the pet store that hydrates the crix, and another product called cricket gut load that you feed them. You can buy both of these at your pet store, or you can buy chicken feed crumbles, grains, greens, and some fruit.

I am so sorry that the crix escaped, especially since you have expressed a strong aversion to them! :ack2: Try putting egg crates on the floor where most of them are. They seem to like to burrow in those.

As for her hating the tank, can you tell me more about your lighting? What brand UVB bulb is that 7? You can see the brand stamped at one end of the bulb. I assume its a florescent tube? What kind of basking bulb are you using? Is it bright or tented? Is it a halogen or a regular household bulb?

The only thing that the UVB tube says is Reptile 7% UVB.
The other bulb is a 100 Watt Reptile Basking Spot Lamp by Zoo Med. I had a Zilla 75 Watt heat bulb but it was terrible, not enough juice.

The crickets I just put them in a bag because I wont be keeping them very long, im ordering bunch of phoenix worms and silk worms for my baby tonight! No more crickets again. Ever.

Her stress marks today arent as bad as they were yesterday which leads me to believe that shes just getting used to her new enclosure.

Alright so I got a digital thermometer with a probe. I think it works much better.

Ive got a few problems here, first of all the temp in the air by her basking spot is around 105. On the paper towels its 120 and on her rock its up to 125!!

Im not sure what to do here, clearly I need to move the lamp much higher, the max temp should be 110 correct? ill try to get around 105 or so.

Oh boy. Yeah, you can either move the basking lamp or go with a lower wattage. You know you can use a regular bright household bulb.

I know you mentioned gallon size, but what are the dimensions of the tank?

I switched the bulb to the 75 Watt and it seems to be doing alright, her rock is around 103-104. Im not sure what the floor would be but im guessing around the 100's.

Is this alright? Should it be higher?
I put a little of banana with her romaine lettuce and collard greens and she still hasnt eaten them :(

I know its small but Im running out of money so itll be around 2 more weeks before I can afford a bigger one.

Are you sure its 3 feet by 2 feet? Is it a 40 breeder, 3 feet by 1.5 feet? If so, it should be fine, but that doesn't sound like a 30 gal.

I hope the air temps on the hot side drop to the low 90s upper 80s. Also, double check the cool side temps. With temps as high as they were, I imagine the whole tank was hot and she was cooking!

As for the salad, do you mince it? When you get the phoenix worms, you can put them in the salad, and maybe she will eat some of the salad with the worms.

How is she behaving now that the temps have dropped?

I think its 3 x 1.5 feet. I had to use a small ruler so yeah...
The cool side is: ~82*F
Her rock is now between 102-103 degrees which I think is alright.

I noticed that when the temps dropped she went for her greens and nibbled a few. I also noticed that she still HATES waxworms.

Shes still very skiddish when i put my hand in the enclosure though, that will change with time and age correct?

Yes, she will get better as she ages and conditions improve. She was just cooking. Try to get that cool side temp down just a bit more. I like to give them a 75-80 degree cool off zone. If you can do that and raise the basking rock surface just a bit, then do raise it by a few degrees. Otherwise those temps are fine. That is a good sized tank if it really is 3x1.5, so you should be able to get a good temp gradient.

Now you won't be getting those worms for a few days. Are you going to get more crix? She really MUST eat, and eat a lot! Ideally, she should be fed a heavy feeder meal 2-3 times a day. She has already gone 3 days without a proper amount of food, but the fact that she drank is good.

For those few days I just got 50 crickets and surprisingly when I use dish washing gloves they dont gross me out as much, theyre in a bucket which I covered with plastic and drilled a few airholes in the cover. No substrate for them cause theyre easier to catch this way.

What I do is I grab a paper towel tube, put it in the bucket leave it there for like 30 mins or so then come back grab the tube and shake it inside her tank. Works pretty well so far and she deffinetly gets excited when she sees them.

I found an even better method, this pic explains it better:

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j19/funker666/DSC02977.jpg

I basically put the crickets in a glass spaghetti sauce jar and theyre not able to come out. Theres 4 left in there and they move so much cause theyre desperate to get out of the jar but they cant! My beardie is standing right in front of them and shes very curious abot it... I hope she gets one and then feels comfortable enough to eat the rest!

She seems sort of interested in them, I hope that shell be brave enough to poke her head in and gorge. If not im still dropping a few around her to keep her busy. Shes eating them.

This is perfect, I could seperate them into multiple jars and have premade snacks for my beardie IF I "train" her to get them from the jar...
