    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

How to keep up humidity?

Alright so as you might now I'm getting a few ATB babies. they're coming in tomorrow. I'm keeping them in an exoterra glass terrarium 12x12x18 tall but will soon be moved to 18x18x24 once we get them in stock in a few days. I got some plexi glass cut to cover the screen top to help keep humidity in but I'll mist the tank and it'll jump to 70-80% and then within like 3 hours or more it drops to about 60%. So basically overnight it's going to drop below 60% probably and i'm wondering what I can do to keep it up higher. Right now I'm heating the tank with a 50W infrared bulb that keeps the tank between 78 in a few cool spots to about 85-90 in the hot spots. Any ideas? Thanks.

Some breeders keep their neonates in jars with water in the bottom (and a perch). Can you do something similar and put a "cobra" heat pad under an adequately sized pan with water to increase evaporation? Just a thought.
 
Well once I get this bigger cave I'm probably going to switch to using a 50 watt daylight bulb during the day and a exo terra heat pad at night. I'm thinking the heat pad will slow down the drying up since there won't be light on the moisture? Maybe? I have a small one now but since I'm exchanging this tank for the bigger one I don't wanna stick the pad to it cuz I don't think it comdes off.
 
OH and I was thinking maybe once I get the bigger tank it'll be harder for the lamp to dry it up as fast since there will be more space and it's more of spot lamp. Ya think?
 
I guess the best thing will be to buy an hygrometer. You have some inexpensive one's at WalMart, that will minimize the guesswork.
 
Try a live plant,i have two with my Emerald hybrid and it helps keep it stable and he seems to like the security of the cover.
 
humidity

i run a humidifer in my snake roomhelps a little, we bought some plants from the pet store, that stay in water constantly. They work good been alive for about 4 yrs now
 
I have a hygrometer already, and I just ordered a digital zilla one that keeps track of temp and humidity, so we'll see what it gets to at night.
