    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

How to transfer baby Black Widows into deli cups??

Hello.
My Black Widow egg sac hatched about 10 days ago. They are currently housed in a large plastic pretzel container (approx 2 gallon). They are really starting to eat each other and I want to transfer them individually to deli cups.
Does anyone have any tips on how to do this without having any escape?

The only idea I could think of was to somehow scoop them out of the container and place them into a 5-gallon bucket with something smeared around the top to prevent them from climbing out. Then, I could take my time moving them to their new deli cup home.

Ewwww. I cant hear the words Black Widow and not think of what my father did when he was young. He had caught one. Had it in a mason jar.. then one day.. the jar went BLACK.. She has had TONS of babies..

Long story short.. he accidentally dropped the jar.. :O

So.. um.. I still get paranoid to this day going into that town that he used to live. HA HA HA HA

That's because you are WEIRD.
 
Might be a little late, but if you continue to work w/ these, you can take 2 cotton swabs(Q-tips), prod with one and the little spiderlings will crawl onto one of them or the other. Then, to transfer to a vial, take a toothpick to prod one into a vial from the swab. I break the toothpick in two and put one half into the vial to give another surface for the spiderlings to make their web, otherwise, they might have web running to the lid, and when you open it, you'll pull some web out maybe even the tiny guys. I've done this twice with l. mactans and l. hesperus. It's not too hard, takes about 30 min to transfer 75 spiderlings if you have the vials right there beside you.
