Us reptile keepers, breeders, enthusiasts, and collectors have fallen into a very "unique" niche in todays society. I'd say about 85% of people would look at what we do and run away after wetting themselves. The other 15% might come see what its all about but openly admit they would never do it with such an "intensity" as us. So what makes us special? How did we evolve into what we are now? For some of you it may have started 30+ years ago, and for others maybe just last year. But we all started somewhere. I want to hear everyones stories! I personally started at age 3 (pic attached) catching Garter snakes in the yard then at age 6 I got my first corn snake which lasted about 2 weeks before escaping, then another corn snake, he lasted probably 2 years, after that it was iguanas, beardies, and leos, by my mid teens I had kept around 15 species or reptiles as well as 2 rose hair tarantulas. By 17 I had amassed a collection of about 75 snakes of assorted species including bulls, milks, kings, balls, boas, corns, rats, hognose, and a few leos. Since then I have skimmed the collection down to about 20 ball pythons, I think I need more but everybody I know is flabbergasted by the amount I already have. I know many out there keep hundreds or even thousands of snakes while some reptile lovers keep only 2 or 3 and are content. I would like to hear stories from way back when they were still known to you as "gardener snakes".
