In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

OK - where to start.
I'm new to this forum, I've been participating somewhat at the kingsnake.com user forums, under the same user name (FunkyRes)

I got into herps as a child, happened to attend the same church as Dr. Robert C. Stebbins. My first reptile was a beautiful southern alligator lizard, who layed 10 eggs for me. My first snake was a Pacific Gopher Snake. It didn't take long though until I found California Kingsnakes, and they quickly became my favorite snake - they readily bred for me.

Fast forward, went to college - all my herps had to find homes.

In 2000 I did not have any herps. Until I found harry, an adult male California Kingsnake. For several years, he was my only herp. In 2004 I found two baby male California Kingsnakes.

Now it is 2006 - and I'm getting back into herps big time. For the first time ever, I have purchased some captive bred california kingsnakes - a juvenile female (bought from a herper in Alaska) and an adult (about 4') albino banded female. Next year, I'm going to breed her with Harry.

Well, that's me :)

I guess I should say - when I'm getting back into herps big time, that doesn't mean massive aquisition of herps - it means I'm planning for decent aquisition.

I'll be building three rack systems this winter - one for hatchlings, one for juveniles, and one for adults.

The hatchling rack will use 4qt sterilite (lidless) and accomodate 72 (12 rows of six). It strictly will be used for hatchlings I plan to sell.

The juvenile rack will use 12qt sterilite (lidless) - I have not yet designed it, don't know how many it will hold - but it will be for hatchlings that I hold back and for hatchlings I buy.

Adult rack will use those 41 qt sterilite (lidless). When juveniles outgrow the 12 qt tubs, that's where they will go.

My existing snakes are in display caging, though I'm thinking about building some better display caging - they will probably live in the racks, but I'd like to have nice looking display caging that I can rotate my specimens through.

What I'm planning on aquiring -

* South Georgia Eastern Kings (pair)
* "normal" brooksi kings (pair, preferably captive hatched from wild caught mother - the original brooksi that turns a gorgeous yellow as they grow up are my favorites, it seems that captive propogation is almost exclusively targeting the brooksi morphs, which IMHO just are not as pretty as adults)
* Splendida (pair)
* Normal pattern but double het Hondurans (two pairs) - the Hondurans, I'm not sure what I want the parents double HET for, but there are a number of breeders selling different combinations of double HETs - I'll decide when the time comes. Double HETs are fun because you get a lot of variation in the hatchlings. I like the normal best though, so normal colour/pattern double HET seems like the perfect snake for me.

Those aquisitions are for next year though.

Oh - and as far as getting "pairs" go - I prefer to pair snakes that are not closely related, even though in some cases it means I'll pay more for shipping. Maybe I can pick some up at shows.
