    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

New to the herp/reptile world.I have a young Ball Python.How do I increase the humidity level in the tank?Any help is appreciated.

Depends on what type of tank you have. If it is in an aquarium with a screen top, you can cover part of the top with glass or plexi. This will help with heat conservation, reduce drafts and help hold humidity. Also, misting the cage will help. Or put the water bowl on the "hot" side of the cage. Just some suggestions.

Using a moisture retentive substrate such as cypress mulch will help also. If you don't want to use that type of substrate in the whole enclosure, you can utilize "humid hides"
 
I prefer humid hides. I make mine out of cleaned out butter containers lined with moist moss. I like this because the snake is not slithering around on wet or damp subatrate all the time. When they feel the need for more humidity they will go inside the hide. I had a close call with misting the cages. One of my boys started to show signs of developing scale rot. So after the vet visit I learned. Just keep a watch on your baby and read all you can, learn from others mistakes. Good Luck and enjoy I love my balls!

Thanks to all who replied.Yes I have my baby in an aquarium w/screen top.I have half covered and the water bowl on the "hot" side.I think I will try the "hide" idea.What is the ideal humidity for a Ball?Also does anyone know of any herp breeders in Ontario,Canada?Specifically the Niagara Region?I know of one whom I got my Ball from).I am looking to get either a Blood Python or a Boa but he does not sell either one.

Hey Brandye! I'm just across the border near Buffalo.

Try Port Credit Pet Centre - I believe they are in Mississauga.. or perhaps it was closer to Burlington/Hamilton. They usually have reptile shows throughout the year.

They sell a variety and have a nice web site as well. I've never been there but have often thought about going to one of their shows - but since I wouldn't be able to bring any little guys back across the border with major headaches, I haven't made the trip yet.
